General “waifs and strays” beauty advent calendar opening thread

As in previous years, this a thread for those opening Beauty Advent Calendars not covered by specific calendar opening threads (though also happy for contents of those to be shared here too).

As previously, it will also be fun to hear about other calendar openings - food, jam, socks anyone?

Please do not include spoilers before 7am on the relevant day. Please also avoid dropping hints or spoilers about future contents if you have opened the calendar in advance.

I’ll be opening the Vogue and Selfridges calendars this year. Really looking forward to Day 1.

The Snag calendar was £69.28 inc P&P. It does come in a very nice massive fabric hanging calendar.
Prices from their website
Day 1 Ice Diamonds Gnarly - £13.99
Day 2 Duo Horse Queen £10.99
Day 3 Midwinter Root Beer £13.99
Day 4 Kiss Me £16.49
Day 5 Bang On £16.49
Day 6 Always Awesome £5 in the sale, were £19.99.

Total value thus far £76.95 even though I'd only wear 2 pairs out in public and the rest to cheer up WFH.

I'm speechless this morning.

I need a cup of tea before I can post. I am nearly 60 and do NOT need today's pair.

Given what you've already opened and not been shocked by them, I'm not sure I should read any further on the thread.

pepperaunt · 06/12/2023 08:54

@Dogsitterwoes wow! Those tights! You really must model them for is. Feeling meh about the Harrods eye mask. I’ll use it but it’s only one. May try out F & M or Selfridges next year.

Snag day 6. Footless tights. I am having a sense of humour fail now. Sorry. Thank fuck it's only 12 days (and with hindsight I realise I should have done this every other day).

Edited

At least the footless bit will have a bit of nostalgia for the early 80's.

I'm sure you can find am occasion for My little pony. Local gymkhana maybe?

UpCircle scrub in H&B today. Smells very nice but I never use scrubs on my face - I might use it on my arms or legs, though

I am absolutely loving the tights! Reminds me of the House of Fraser calendar thread a few years ago where every drawer was worse than the last. Disappointing if it was your advent calendar but it made for a very funny thread.

Dailymash · 06/12/2023 09:02

Do you think the Snag tights were aimed at teenagers? I would have worn most of those when I was 13..

A tiny pot of Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Bum Bum cream from the LF calendar. I gave an involuntary happy gasp when I opened the drawer! I have been using the Bom Dia Bright cream so I have been looking forward to trying this different scent.

WeneedSamVimesonthecase · 06/12/2023 09:02

Very much enjoying my Nuxe calendar, all lovely treats so far that will definitely get used.

Exfoliating face wash this morning that smells gorgeous.

viques · 06/12/2023 09:06

diptyque day 6 is a set of three decorations. They start out flat then you have to fiddle them into a 3d shape. Quite pretty.

Day 4 of my sister's homemade advent calendar- a pretty miniature cloisonné vase (see below)

Day 5 - a £10 Hotel Chocolat gift card!!

& today - a £10 Boots voucher!

Can't believe how much money she's spent, I don't really deserve it!

She obviously thinks you do deserve it.

Haven't tried this before but got a byoma product in last year's CB calendar and really liked it so looking forward to using this.

It's the Boots Premium calendar.

@Dogsitterwoes I know a few little girls who would love those tights! Are all these tights giving you a second career idea in children’s entertainment/circus roles…shot out of a canon, Irish dancing. I wonder if the person who designed them has A run out of ideas, or B always wanted to run away with the circus!

moimichme · 06/12/2023 10:08

My Little Pony tights, wow! At least it wasn't Care Bears? I wish it had been 24 days, too. 🤣

OK Beauty Box advent calendar yesterday had Philip Kingsley Body Building Weightless Shampoo and today it's the matching Conditioner. 60ml so a reasonable size which I'll try it out the next time I wash my hair. I don't usually buy fancy shampoo but I don't mind trying out new ones, and I've liked some of the other products from this brand.

Dailymash · 06/12/2023 10:08

@lookingforMolly I have put together an advent calendar for my sister using last year’s box and have enjoyed picking out things that I think she will love that will also fit into the drawers - she is absolutely worth it and I have no doubt that you are too!

Pinenu · 06/12/2023 10:13

I was gutted to see the snag calendar is just 12 days. Then thoroughly cheered up by today’s tights. What a rollercoaster.

I don’t think we could even guess tomorrow’s if we tried. I’m feeling a silver number.

Hope you find a use for them all @Dogsitterwoes WFH, under jeans for dog walks etc. I’m sure they’ll come in handy.

clowniform · 06/12/2023 10:22

Aw @Dogsitterwoes you have brought so much joy to us though! The latest aren't so terrible, just look like a psychedelic floral print from a normal distance. Just stay in constant motion when you wear them 😁

Loving the homemade calendars. Giving me ideas (and a touch of fear) for the ones I will make next year.

Dogsitterwoes · 06/12/2023 11:08

I'm definitely doing a homemade one for myself next year, get little bits in the sales, wrap them up, and I'll have forgotten what they are by then.

Growlybear83 · 06/12/2023 11:12

I got an orange bitters fragrance in Jo Malone today and a little serum in Lumene. I nearly didn't buy the Lumene when it was really reduced but I'm so glad I did as I like what I've tried so far very much.

Love orange bitters..have a bottle still going from a couple of years ago. 😊

ACAC2023 · 06/12/2023 11:21

@HollyGolightly4 I have now realised I opened the wrong day😭. Apologies to any Vogue openers as I got the date wrong today 😔

SoloCat · 06/12/2023 11:22

I tried the Harrods Gisou shampoo and conditioner the other day, it was far too rich for my fine hair. I had to use dry shampoo for work the day after. I may try the conditioner with a detox shampoo and see how that goes.

Pinenu · 06/12/2023 11:44

I’ve had some hand cream and a small bag of mini cheddars.

Degusta was ryvita thins.

Snowplop · 06/12/2023 12:04

I've been lax posting so here are the day 4,5 and 6 Elle offerings. I'm pleased with the Shiseido Ultimune although, it's only 10ml. The ReVive eye mask is much needed for my poor tired teacher eyes (hello nine week term!) and will be used this weekend prior to a festive gathering. The Merit 'Cabo' lipstick is not a nice colour on me. It's orange and not good at all for my rosy skin. I have two friends lined up to try it this weekend though so I'm sure it will find a good home.

I twitched and bought the Bonne Man calendar for £12.99 last weekend on Amazon. It's great! Pineapple and ginger today.

I'd love to be organised enough to make someone an advent calendar like @lookingforMolly 's sister has done for her and @Dailymash has done for her sister. Really lovely.

Haha @ACAC2023 don't worry!

MalibuBetty · 06/12/2023 12:45

I absolutely love the My Little Pony tights and would 100% wear them. I've actually just gone to the website and added them to a basket 😳
