Lovers of Parisian style and fashion with a conscious mindset and lots of chatter in between.

Which is why I start the search at Uniqlo every single time. I know the quality reflects the price but for £15, if they have the shape I want I order and if the fit works, I order multiples in black, white, navy and marl grey plus red/orange.

botemp · 04/04/2024 21:22

I've just found an excuse to go to NYC... but I'm hoping some others closer by will follow suit:

I am not much of a t-shirt person, always end up finding some in the sale though, I like my Rick Owens and Raquel Allegra ones. I did see some nice long sleeved ones at Arket recently. Massimo Dutti also had a load of new things in that impressed me, all very neatly made in nice fabrics. So neat I expect few human hands touched it, noticed it at Cos too, some of the items (woven cottons) were so neatly made I suspect it's an innovation with CNC machines as even super skilled sewers can't sew that perfectly straight.

From the Phoebe Philo collection, to be sold at Bergdorf Goodman.

Yes I understand Flo. I have a 20 year old MH t shirt that I got in a sale, in a deep jewel-like teal. It's very thin now but still a bit beautiful. I wish she still did the odd brighter colour.

I've gone off Sunspel almost entirely after I bought some cords in last December's sale that have turned out really badly. The fabric and fit and overall quality of my Uniqlo Claire W-K cords are far better, and they cost 1/4 of the original Sunspel price.

Redandblue11 · 04/04/2024 22:03

I actually sold my MH tee shirt on Vinted as I didn’t quite like it 😬it was in an ‘earthy Scottish yellowish ‘ not the real name of the colour but that is how I saw it.

microbius · 04/04/2024 22:21

I wonder whether Phoebe Philo will sell more or less once there is physical presence...

My favourite long sleeve T-shirts are Studio Nicholson picked in a sample sale, turned out to be immensely useful but seem a one off design (not part of newer collections) and some Sunspel ones that were made for Japanese men. Other than that, I am completely stuck. They are all usually too short in the sleeve, stretch too much in the elbows etc.

Re; MHL colours. I know what you mean, red, I once gave an MHL T-shirt to a friend (dark hair, dark eyes) as a present. She put it on and looked ill in it. It was a stripy dark grey and mustard colours. I felt so guilty. It was a really bad guess at a present.

mm47 · 04/04/2024 22:43

bo there must surely be a US chapter of Les Parisiennes?

I couldn’t read the WwD article as I’m not a subscriber but I wonder why she chose Bergdorf’s over any other retailer.

Floisme · 05/04/2024 08:20

Woah, let me rewind - you had a month in London and didn't get out Crkd?? Shock

I read that article through archive.ph mm47 - see if this works
https://archive.ph/mxskw
It doesn't really say why she chose them and no comment from PP herself.

botemp · 05/04/2024 09:38

I don't know mm, the only thing I can speculate on is that the initial PP launch had many logistical issues. There were many complaints wrt deliveries, payment, returns and a few important markets were excluded (China, Canada and I think the Middle East).

I know Bergdorf's were meant to set up an e-commerce business with Farfetch but when that got bought by Coupang they pulled out of that deal and they said they'd be developing something by themselves. I suppose it would be useful for PP to have the logistics end handled for North America by a trusted party on the ground there and with a bricks and mortars presence you'd have somewhere for the returns to go. My main question from all of this is, does this mean her stuff will participate in the sales, because then with fashion math those NYC tickets would totally pay for themselves 😱

I have no knowledge of a US Les Parisiennes chapter btw, we do have a few Americans on here so who knows 🤷

Bergdorf Goodman is the most exclusive department store left in NYC, now that Bonwit Teller and Henri Bendel (my personal favourite) are no more, so it's a bit like choosing Harvey Nicks rather than Harrods. At least, that would be my guess.

botemp · 10/04/2024 08:02

It's raining Collabs atm, Mango X Victoria Beckham looks promising. But Mango always looks so much better in pictures than real life so I'm prepared to be disappointed. It's out on the 23rd, Rokh at H&M is out on the 18th iirc.

Not a great many images but I wonder if the Mango/VB colab will get here. Might have to plan a trip to our otherwise very dull shopping centre where Mango are supposed to be opening a store this month.

botemp · 10/04/2024 09:03

I'm not sure the Mango Collabs ever make it to the stores. If they do it tends to be just the main shops in a country, the flagship one in the capital plus a few other main cities.

OP posts:
Redandblue11 · 10/04/2024 13:26

I saw the mango collab announcement and got me mildly excited, probably because I remember in my 20s when I arrived here I used to shop at mango. But I haven’t for a very long time for the reason you mentioned Bo.

I think you also mentioned Massimo Dutti, as having improved, which is great news as I always liked their stuff and would be great if they got their act together.

I am pretty tired of the weather though, is so bloody cold still.

botemp · 10/04/2024 13:40

Are we not sharing weather atm? Last Saturday was super warm here at 24° and it's been around mid to late teens since. Sunny periods make it feel quite spring like, the showers and strong winds not so much Hmm

I did pack away all my winter stuff, I hope I timed it right.

And yes, really like the new MD stuff. I saw a skirt and top I liked there. I'm just wondering if they'll do a mid season promotion soon, everyone else seems to. If there's not one by the end of the month and I've not gone mad with the Collabs and two sample sales I'm attending this month, I'll get the MD bits.

Papyrophile · 10/04/2024 13:55

The weather has been, and remains, absolutely foul here. Put away the winter woollies? Not yet, I needed my heavy sweater yesterday morning. And the waterproofs stay ready all year.

However, a friend has invited us to a barbecue this weekend: I hope she knows something I don't!

MmePoppySeedDefage · 13/04/2024 19:35

It's been a beautiful day here (SE England) so I've been gardening - it's been glorious - all that colour (I love tulips so have lots in different colours). Think I'll swap my winter and summer clothes tomorrow.

It's bit early, really, but I'm busy next weekend then the following weekend I'm off to Spain, so will need hot weather clothes looking at the forecast.

Redandblue11 · 14/04/2024 09:08

Finally! Spring is here.
I also spent the day in the garden yesterday poppy. I wore a double denim ensemble for the task.

Yes it might be a bit early as this coming week the weather looks back to usual here, but if you have no other option then is probably a good task to tackle poppy.
I will do that next weekend.

botemp · 14/04/2024 09:52

Spain sounds lovely this time of year. I'm doing a quick work trip to Italy but surprisingly not that warm. At home temps are dropping too the upcoming week. I kept out a few lightweight knits so I think I'll be okay...

I didn't realise the Ines dlF Collab at Uniqlo is the last one. Never really been my thing, but I know there's some on here who really like it. I quite liked this skirt with the pattern placement, just not for me 🤷

That reminds me, I was in a branch of Uniqlo that had some of the Comptoir des Cotonniers collab. (Sorry if I've ms-spelt but I'm in a rush.) Nothing that particularly tempted me but, if was looking for a linen(ish) trouser suit for around £100 or linen T shirts, (only short sleeved or sleeveless unfortunately) I'd have stopped for a closer look. It all looked a bit flimsy though, which was why I didn't stop long.

botemp · 14/04/2024 11:05

CdC has definitely gone flimsy since it got taken over by the Uniqlo group. The trench coats seem to still be okay, but not as good as before.

That skirt 😍

microbius · 15/04/2024 14:43

Apologies for the off-topic question, but I'd really appreciate a quick suggestion saving me hours of research into this overly complexified topic. Shampoo/conditioner. I have curly hair and always used Pantene Pro-v for fine hair. Shampoos for curly hair, like Aveda, made my hair actually straighter. But alas, since the anti-silicone revolution, Pantene Pro-V changed its formula and now I have dry hair and itchy scalp.... I need a new shampoo/conditioner

I quickly tried to look and am drowning in the multitude of products. Do I really need to pay £28 for a bottle of shampoo? Flo has curly hair, I remember, bo too. What do you guys use? [begging emoji here]

botemp · 15/04/2024 15:03

Ahem, I have super picky hair, it builds up too easily so I do end up having to cough up a lot of money for 'clean beauty' haircare products that misinformation artists like Gwyneth Paltrow fawn over as they avoid using all those nice smoothing ingredients (aaah chemicals 🙄) that make things like OG pantene great for most people. So I use Rahua, the hydrating line.

I did pick up a bottle of R+Co Television hair conditioner from TKMaxx semi recently as I really like their styling products (they contain silicones but theirs seem to not build up as quickly on me) and that does a really good job. I'd use it all the time if I didn't need to use a harsh shampoo with it to lift the build up each time. Might be worth picking up for the discounted price?

Syoss might also be worth looking at, huge bottles and very cheap, they seem entirely uninterested in going silicone free. I'm sure if you Google there will be some indication into which product is most similar to the pantene product you were using as they're direct competitors.

Floisme · 15/04/2024 15:18

I'm using Aussie Volume shampoo at the moment @microbius purely because it was on offer and my hair seems to be doing ok with it for now. But I have no loyalty to any brand and I've never really noticed much difference between them. I don't even know if the Aussie stuff is silicone free. I don't use a conditioner.

What I do find helps, when it comes to encouraging it to curl, is washing it as little as I can get away with Blush

Papyrophile · 15/04/2024 15:35

Microbius, Another curly mophead, plus I get ezcema/dermatitis, and so have a cupboard full of rejects and disasters. My solution is to shampoo as infrequently as possible with either Head and Shoulders Bare or a detox shampoo and condition most days with a Beauty Pie conditioner for coarse dry hair. I recommend Hershesons Almost Everything cream. A dab on soaking wet hair and squelch it through, before a micro-fibre drying turban. 15 minutes in that absorbs most of the moisture and then it leaves me with loosely defined curls. Often a small squirt of hair oil too.
