Lovers of Parisian style and fashion with a conscious mindset and lots of chatter in between.

Oh, yes, that's more penguins for company South 🐧 How lovely, Red, I'm very jealous, always wanted to go to Tierra del Fuego but it didn't work out when I was last in Argentina. Good luck with finding the boina.

bo recently you asked if there were any couture knitwear recommendations/ I just came across Di Gilpin and as she and her team create knitwear for both Connolly and La Fetiche and private commissions I imagine she must be pretty special?

Couture knitwear

In today’s calendar post I love how the fringes undulate around the body, giving almost a shimmering affect as the model moves. My favourite is the far right, middle row (although I would prefer a slightly higher neckline).

Wow, I love the textures, fringes and feathers. I am always drawn to black and white, especially in textures. Though, I think mm47 said it much more poetically than me! I agree how clothes move is important, but can be lost in photos: fringing really accentuates the fluidity.

mm47 · 23/12/2023 17:22

Those Patagonian berets look amazing Red (I googled boina) - please post a photo when you succumb!

botemp · 24/12/2023 09:01

Thanks mm, I was moreso musing on whether something hand knit is superior than machine or where it's a case of impossible to outperform a machine. Definitely will have a look at the link.

Last day of the advent, I wish you all happy holidays, a Merry Christmas and onwards to brighter things 🥂

Thanks so much for doing this bo. I haven't been able to give it my full attention these last few days but I'm saving them until after the festivities.

A Merry Christmas to us all Xmas Smile

Bonne annee!
Looking forward to another year of fashion and life chat with you all!

timeisnotaline · 31/12/2023 15:05

Bonne Annee a tout Le monde, for my project de vacances I am going to read this whole thread. For totally unconnected image content I attach my discarded thoughts of a new years outfit- a top I love but find hard to wear. Suggestions welcome! (I wore a dress in the end)

Happy New Year and welcome back time (I'm knee deep in NYE prep so don't have the headspace to figure out if you're still up super late or up and about ridiculously early but it's preoccupying me nonetheless 🤦).

WRT the top, I think with something asymmetrical like that, the eye often follow down to wherever it ends so it tends to settle on the knee area (nothing wrong with them) where the horizontality of the hems sort of brings a harsh line. I'd try it with something longer with a bit of volume/floatiness to it, Palazzo trousers-ish although that may feel a bit resort wear.

If anyone is up for some article reading, I read these two quite close to each other while saying much the same but in completely different fields. Change definitely feels like it's in the air for the year ahead (beyond the whole it's a new year thing), despite those articles, I'm still stuck in pessimism mode and anticipating it all with trepidation. Sorry, that's probably a bit gloomy to end the the year on.

This is weird - I keep getting 'there is a new post' highlighting on this thread but the last message I can see is Redandblue's on 23 December. I'm posting this in hope that it will unplug things for me, as I doubt there's been radio silence on the thread since then.

MmePoppySeedDefage · 31/12/2023 17:37

Well that's weird - my earlier post released the extra posts up to today, so I could read them, but going back in all I can see is Redandblue's 23.12 post again. I don’t have this problem on any other thread. I've emailed MNtowers and hopefully they'll be able to help, but for the moment it seems I have to post to read!

Voltefarce · 31/12/2023 21:44

Happy new year, les Parisiennes! Wishing you all a healthy and happy 2024.

Floisme · 01/01/2024 11:42

Good morning and a happy new year.

My only news is that, after two Christmases of angst and dither, I now adore those old grey velvet flares. I've worn them Christmas Day, Boxing Day, to the coffee shop, to the supermarket, and last night.

MmePoppySeedDefage · 01/01/2024 11:54

What if anything, has changed, Flo, to make you love them?

( I now seem to be back to normal as regards the thread. MN were very responsive)

Floisme · 01/01/2024 12:20

I have absolutely no idea MmePoppy Grin I think it's to do with that discussion on the shift in style thread (I think you're on it too?) It's like a switch flips in your head and suddenly something you thought you'd wear forever looks wrong, and equally something you thought was wrong looks right again.

Redandblue11 · 01/01/2024 15:14

I must have missed the grey velvet trousers discussion Flo. But they sound like they have become part of you.
i think I missed quite a few things, in an airport now making my way back.

Bad news I do not have a boina, the place where I saw the original stuff happened to close between Xmas and new year and then the other couple of places I saw some where not really quite the same.
But I have a knitted tank top, and hat in pure sheep wool. The softest sheep wool I have touched, I cannot stand pure sheep wool stuff and I did not realise how soft is the wool these sheep in the south. They were being sold in a very small community market that only had very few things. I also got a ring there, it is not pure silver but I really liked the design and was handmade etc.
i will share photos when I am back.

botemp · 01/01/2024 15:29

Oh, I think Flo's flares are a background character of this thread. I think they're the ones that give (or rather gave by the sound of her new enthusiasm for them) her a complex about her thighs whenever she took them out around Christmas time each year which once led to her hiding under a table an entire work Christmas party.

Sounds like you had a good time and got some lovely souvenirs Red.

Floisme · 01/01/2024 15:54

Yes bo is correct, sorry I should have explained, this is a long running saga, almost as long as that search of mine for a bad weather coat. (No, don't ask.)

They're a pair of grey velvet flares, in proper cotton velvet, that I bought in Next in the late 90s/very early noughties. The first time I revived them was 4 or 5 Christmases ago when I wore them to a work do where everyone was in skin tight trousers or teeny-tiny dresses and they just felt too 'out there'. Then there were no dos for 2 years cos pandemic. The following year I took an unflattering photo of them that did nothing for my thigh complex (but I wore them anyway).

And now this year I absolutely bloody love them, even though I can say with total confidence that my thighs haven't got any thinner. In fact I'm spending the day digging out all my other old flares although so far, they're all dismayingly low waisted.

Glad you had a good trip red, looking forward to the pics.

MmePoppySeedDefage · 01/01/2024 21:46

It's a shame about your beret red, but the soft wool items sound interesting. Do you know what breed the sheep are? (I am fascinated by the different characteristics of wool from the different breeds of sheep)

I also have a pair of grey flared trousers I've dug out again Flo. They are Martin Margiela, lovely wool, from the Liberty sale many years ago. I have never worn them until about a month ago.

Happy 2024 mes amies. Have been absent in an S&B-free zone over the holidays, chauffeuring DM around and looking after her for a fortnight over Christmas. Delivered her home yesterday and driven back today in a storm, so not feeling my sparkliest. Will catch up and chime in in the next few days!
