Husband called my new slippers 'you've let yourself go' slippers.

I brought some new slippers recently - nice sheepskin ones from John Lewis which I thought looked nice.

I wore them yesterday evening after a hot bath. My husband looked at them, laughed, and in a semi-joking way said they should be called 'you've let yourself go' slippers.

Could anyone recommend some comfy slippers that look like they could be shoes, and cover the whole foot (so not ballet pumps)?

Clearly my husband finds them very unsexy.

Would be interested to know people's thoughts on wearing slippers generally.

To be fair, they’re a copy of the very on trend Ugg Ultra Minis so actually they’re fine. He obviously (and many on here) don’t realise that…..

why on earth do slippers need to be ‘on trend’ to be fine? Are there slipper police somewhere? Honestly, who gives a rats, apart from OP’s DH seemingly. I’m also very interested in what on trend, and sexy footwear he is wearing in the house to keep his feet warm in winter?

Totally agree with you, I have been looking at the Ugg Tazz and really like them . Very 'in' at the moment...

Like them or not , they are actually very on trend at the moment and very similar to the Ugg ones which are flying off the shelves thank to celebrities wearing them .

Your husband is wrong. He evidently knows nothing about fashion. They are NOT “Auntie Mabel in the nursing home” they are bang up to date, as worn by celebrities. Is your husband the type who wants a trophy wife who minces about dressed like some silly woman off a reality show or does her care about his wife’s comfort?

I have a pair of slippers similar to your dh's one... they are memory foam too 😀

But they are on their way out and I will be searching for another pair, as they need to be just right. Which to me, your let yourself go ones are bloody perfect.

Sorry OP, but although this was posted as lighthearted, I think its quite sad that you are expected to be sexy all day every day for his delight. I think you should get another pair in another colour and only wear them from now on.

They are OK as slippers but I don't like the outside uggs boots. Reminds me when people wore the cheap versions and the feet didn't sit on the soles properly.

I don't wear slippers because the arches of my feet need more support than generally offered by slippers. Indoors I'm always on my Archies, or barefooted or in socks with no shoes. Your slippers look fine, cosy and warm. I don't know why slippers should be sexy 😉

I have considered buying one too.

Then I remembered I am the most clumsy person ever, also afflicted with a dollop of ADHD, plus I have a Labrador who I feel like I am forever getting up to see what nonsense he is getting up to.

Do they clean up well? I have arthritis in my hands so I'm a bit clumsy and messy in the kitchen. I have to be able to wash and clean my slippers on a regular basis.

There are no such thing as sexy slippers, apart from 1970s fluffy mules with heels, I guess, that someone might wear for shagging the milkman. Tell him your slippers are to keep your feet warm and comfortable and not to satisfy the male gaze.

Fluffy mules are ok if you like cold feet and stubbing your toes repeatedly.

See, the fluffy, healed things remind me of those plastic heels children wear when dressing up. Not sexy at all! If I started clopping about in fluffy heels at home, my DH would think I’d lost the plot.
