Husband called my new slippers 'you've let yourself go' slippers.

I brought some new slippers recently - nice sheepskin ones from John Lewis which I thought looked nice.

I wore them yesterday evening after a hot bath. My husband looked at them, laughed, and in a semi-joking way said they should be called 'you've let yourself go' slippers.

Could anyone recommend some comfy slippers that look like they could be shoes, and cover the whole foot (so not ballet pumps)?

These are the slippers I was wearing: https://www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-sheepskin-cropped-slipper-boots-light-grey/p110970563?size=3&s_ppc=2dx92700078342469774_brand_mixed_BAU&tmad=c&tmcampid=2&gclid=CjwKCAjw15eqBhBZEiwAbDomEq9KvjXLORj9mTAJxXNnTZXnnoku3kAj4oSrHkGtNOHWGnWqXz3ZHBoCFdcQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

Clearly my husband finds them very unsexy.

Would be interested to know people's thoughts on wearing slippers generally.

Well the good news is at least your husband isn’t as horrible as I thought before I looked at them because they are quite bad

Suchasonganddance · 05/11/2023 21:01

Those are absolutely hideous. He has a point.

muchalover · 05/11/2023 21:01

I have some fake Birkenstock clog/slippers. In beige. It occured to me they look like pasties and now all Birks look like pasties.

People wear pasties!!! Cheese and onion or meat and potato?

FindingNeverland28 · 05/11/2023 21:02

Tell him you were taking a leaf out of his book

Ladybirdg1984 · 05/11/2023 21:07

I'd tell the hubby to mind his own business.
For those saying they are like granny slippers... they look more like 'Uggs'. Plus they wouldn't be practical for some of the older generation as they have no support and Doris with a unsteady gait would probably go flying. Or Bernie with swollen feet wouldn't be able to squeeze into them. At the end of the day you are wearing them inside to keep your feet warm.

Bubble08080 · 05/11/2023 21:10

£59 for a pair of slippers 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️a very first world & pointless item. Try going around your house & seeing which items you could do without.. slippers defo on that list! Haven’t owned a pair since I was 7 😂you would need to pay me £59 to wear them for 5 mins 😂

TreasureValley · 05/11/2023 21:15

OP, I've been looking for a pair just like your DH's slippers! What is the brand, please?

Kerensa70 · 05/11/2023 21:27

£59 for a pair of slippers?!? You have to wear them!!!

MsMarple · 05/11/2023 21:36

@Sadik I came here to post about those sheepskin.co.uk slipper boots - I love mine!

I have always bought a size up from normal but the website now says to buy your usual size with their new pattern. The first time I bought some (years ago) they were super helpful about exchanging sizes until I got the right fit. They are sooooo cosy and although very expensive worth it to me as I wear them everyday on our cold tiled floors. The inside fluffiness does flatten over time but current pair are now 4.5 years old and still looking good. I bought some new sheepskin insoles about a year ago to refluff them, which worked brilliantly and much cheaper than replacing the whole slipper.

It’s so lovely to come home to toasty slippers at this time of year!

Slippers are just ick and are never ever ever sexy.

Candathon · 05/11/2023 21:47

Hi @TreasureValley , he got them as a Christmas present - I believe they were from Loaf.

Keep cosy. Bet your husband isn’t perfect either! Perhaps it was a throwaway remark and he saw it as a joke? Does he usually respond like this? If so, buy him a pair of old man slippers with a Velcro fastening, for Christmas 😹.

Itsnamechange · 05/11/2023 22:02

Do not replace your obviously very comfortable and also expensive slippers.
To the "looks like something my granny would wear" crowd: these slippers are extremely on trend and lots of 20 something influencers are wearing them outdoors.

AmIEnough · 05/11/2023 22:04

They’re slippers!!! Your husband needs to get a grip!

SillyOldBucket · 05/11/2023 22:07

Sorry, but I'm with your husband on this one. They are incredibly frumpy. I know some might say they are trendy and not too dissimilar to Uggs but then I find Uggs ugly (probably why they are called Uggs!). Try Boux Avenue - they have a nice selection of cute slippers that don't have a care home vibe.

msemumma · 05/11/2023 22:11

They are literally the same as Uggs which is what’s trendy at the moment. By the looks of some of these comments, a lot of these people are just as out of touch as your husband!

Pinkfluff76 · 05/11/2023 22:16

I can’t believe you spent £59 on a pair of slippers. I clearly live on the wrong planet

Mamasharp97 · 05/11/2023 22:27

Replace his with these so he has some sexy slippers to enjoy 😂

Husband called my new slippers 'you've let yourself go' slippers.
LizardOfOz · 05/11/2023 22:31

Hrtft but I recommend Bedroom Athletics Boot slippers - Marilyn or Monroe.

Cosy and not granny slippers. Not nearly as racy as their name suggests!

Arbutusflower · 05/11/2023 22:32

@Plumful

Freezing cold ankles, no thanks.

Zerosleep · 05/11/2023 22:57

@Candathon quite honestly, you husband is being a cheeky bastard. Nothing wrong with those, what should you be wearing? Heels with fluff and feathers on them like a hooker?

Zerosleep · 05/11/2023 22:59

@Pinkfluff76 why wouldn’t she? If she has the money then that’s ok isn’t it. No need for judgement, I personally wouldn’t spend that either but each to their own.

ColdSpirit · 05/11/2023 23:18

Ask him to get you some elegant slippers for xmas. Watch him struggle because they don’t exist!!!

Teenagehorrorbag · 05/11/2023 23:37

They are quite grim!! But I wear these and love them, so go girl!!

Agree with PPs that slippers are for comfort not for trying to look sexy for your partner (and what does he wear Grin)?

Plus we should never have to dress to please our men - although we might be more inclined to try and look nice on a glam night out. But casual/comfort wear is exactly that!

Mytholmroyd · 04/11/2023 14:55

Get some marabou and stick it on the front
https://www.sexyshooz.co.uk/marabou-satin-slipper

Apparently this slipper goes up to size 13, which tells you exactly who the target market for them is....
