Husband called my new slippers 'you've let yourself go' slippers.

I brought some new slippers recently - nice sheepskin ones from John Lewis which I thought looked nice.

I wore them yesterday evening after a hot bath. My husband looked at them, laughed, and in a semi-joking way said they should be called 'you've let yourself go' slippers.

Could anyone recommend some comfy slippers that look like they could be shoes, and cover the whole foot (so not ballet pumps)?

These are the slippers I was wearing: https://www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-sheepskin-cropped-slipper-boots-light-grey/p110970563?size=3&s_ppc=2dx92700078342469774_brand_mixed_BAU&tmad=c&tmcampid=2&gclid=CjwKCAjw15eqBhBZEiwAbDomEq9KvjXLORj9mTAJxXNnTZXnnoku3kAj4oSrHkGtNOHWGnWqXz3ZHBoCFdcQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

Clearly my husband finds them very unsexy.

Would be interested to know people's thoughts on wearing slippers generally.

I’ve got some of these Anna Shepherd of Sweden slippers. They’ve got a proper sole … after a bath when I’m in my nightwear I tend to wear slip on ‘hotel’/ ‘spa’ towelling slippers simply because I can’t cope with the feeling of the wool against my bare feet https://www.shepherdofsweden.com/uk/women?culture=en-GB&currency=GBP&channelCountry=GB&channel=Shepherd-UK

These Ugg Tazz slippers are being worn by loads of Hollywood Celebrities right now

I honestly thought you were going to post really uncool fluffy slippers not your super cool ones

Why would the fact that 'loads of Hollywood Celebrities' wear them be of any relevance?

LuluBlakey1 · 06/11/2023 00:13

Mine are like this. I am uninterested in any view DH might have about them. They go in the washer and stay on my feet.

Husband called my new slippers 'you've let yourself go' slippers.
squidgybits · 06/11/2023 00:18

OP! He is jealous!

squidgybits · 06/11/2023 00:22

Tell him if you take them off, you are turning the heating up! LOL

JustWimpy · 06/11/2023 00:24

I have the Ugg Tazz. They are the business. I love them. All slippers are a bit ugly. Anyone thinking theirs are 'cute' is deluded. Warm feet are all that matters.

SheerLucks · 06/11/2023 00:27

But what on Earth are sexy slippers!

Robotalkingrubbish · 06/11/2023 00:54

I bloody love them @Candathon tell your DH to fuck off. 🙂

Jazzicatz · 06/11/2023 01:36

So? Not everything in life has to be sexy. Tell your husband to f**k off and enjoy having warm feet.

YerArseInParsley · 06/11/2023 01:38

No one buys slippers thinking my husband will think these are sexy. Why you bothered about what he said? You clearly know he was joking. If you like them wear them. Take them off during sexy time though.

YerArseInParsley · 06/11/2023 01:42

RudsyFarmer · 04/11/2023 14:37

I would take that as a judgement about some other area he’s not happy about OP. If they were on the feet of a size 8 Insta model I’m going to guess they’d still be fuckable. So my assumption would be that he’s not happy with your sex life and it’s a handy thing to be scathing about.

What?

IAmtheVampiresWife · 06/11/2023 04:30

I googled "sexy slippers" and two of the offerings were

Floralie222 · 06/11/2023 04:58

These slippers are incredibly fashionable right now, UGG have been producing for years and now cropping up everywhere thanks to a lot of celebrities wearing them. Your husband and anyone criticising has no clue. I would love a pair. More to the point, why would anyone's opinion be worth more than comfort and warmth? You're literally not leaving the house in them!

Men criticising women's fashion has also always been a big 'ick' for me 😂 Almost up there with criticising intelligence.

FWIW, based on my actual granny knowledge I always considered granny slippers to be those ones that sort of look like ballet pumps but with higher, raise sides and a sensible back. Nothing like these! I also wouldn't care if someone wore those. If my partner wore the "grandfather male equivalent" I'm not sure it would be worthy of comment. My partner wears the exact same outfit every day as soon as he returns home from work or anywhere. If anything it has become more of a long running joke than anything either of us cares about.

twittwooz · 06/11/2023 06:52

They’re like mini Uggs which, he can like it or not, are back “in”. I can’t believe so many people are siding with him! Absolutely DO NOT buy any more, they look comfy and cosy and he can fuck right off.

Picoloangel · 06/11/2023 07:43

Your husband is being unreasonable. Men never get called out on their underwear, footwear choices. There’s an expectation that women will put up with uncomfortable shoes and underwear etc mostly for the benefit of men. His slippers don’t exactly shout sexy but they are slippers so why should they?

nuttypeeps · 06/11/2023 07:51

@Candathon my DH likes my slippers, which are these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B083GH1VBG

They're a lot cheaper than yours too!

By the way, if you're posting a link, it's best to delete all the tracking information after the question mark. It is just clutter.

BessieSurtees · 06/11/2023 08:03

I rarely wear slippers, if my feet are too warm my hot flushes go mental. So I'm either barefoot, or in these, they are so comfy Crocs Unisex's Slippers: Amazon.co.uk: Fashion

However I do have these slippers if its cold and I do love them Cole - Short Luxury Faux Fur Boot - Grey Timberwolf – Bedroom Athletics

I use these too Classic Lined Tie-Dye Clog - Crocs

Husband has no say in my dress code

BrimfulOfMash · 06/11/2023 08:19

Oh god, some of the ‘cute’ alternatives (Boux Avenue) are downright naff. Some of the ‘elegant’ alternatives are much less practical and warm (anything slip on / backless/ no ankle warmth).

I wear slippers like the OP’s but in black and with a higher ankle. Perfect: a proper sturdy sole, no drafts, 100% comfortable.

Does not dressing for sex appeal 100% of the time = ‘letting yourself go’?

Really?

Poodles23 · 06/11/2023 08:26

I always wear slippers but have to admit I’m not keen on yours, sorry 😞

Reidie · 06/11/2023 08:49

Your husband is somewhat out of touch . Last weekend in a fulham pub ; one where the j young people rather fancy themselves, a young lady came in wearing an oversized blazer and hot pants and exactly those slippers on her trotters . My husband thought they were awful but he’s a dinosaur who thinks women should still be in stilettos 🤷‍♀️

lovenotwar149 · 06/11/2023 08:51

This is the path I would take...
I would wear those 'unsexy' slippers, I'd consider not shaving my armpits, or legs. I would remove my make up etc
Btw I have been married 35 yrs.
To me I want to be with a man/partner because he loves ME. That may be with or without make up, with or without hairy armpits , whether we agree on a topic or not! BE YOU!!!!

lovenotwar149 · 06/11/2023 08:52

I recall many yrs ago being told by a senior member of my family....make sure you put some lip on before your husband gets home from work!!!! OMG OMG! I didn't take that on board btw!!!!

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 06/11/2023 09:20

Bubble08080 · 05/11/2023 21:10

£59 for a pair of slippers 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️a very first world & pointless item. Try going around your house & seeing which items you could do without.. slippers defo on that list! Haven’t owned a pair since I was 7 😂you would need to pay me £59 to wear them for 5 mins 😂

Whilst I wouldn’t pay £59 for slippers, they really aren’t a pointless item. My house has hard flooring all downstairs so it gets cold in the winter. When my feet are cold, the rest of me is cold and I get grumpy!

Could we survive without them? Of course but that doesn’t mean they are pointless.

Ilovecleaning · 06/11/2023 09:24

The John Lewis slippers are fine with pyjamas. A big no-no with a nightdress imo.

JosieJasper · 06/11/2023 09:27

To be fair, they’re a copy of the very on trend Ugg Ultra Minis so actually they’re fine. He obviously (and many on here) don’t realise that but like many things it does depend how you’re wearing them. I’m sure there are plenty of things you don’t like that he wears too 🤷🏽‍♀️
