Husband called my new slippers 'you've let yourself go' slippers.

I brought some new slippers recently - nice sheepskin ones from John Lewis which I thought looked nice.

I wore them yesterday evening after a hot bath. My husband looked at them, laughed, and in a semi-joking way said they should be called 'you've let yourself go' slippers.

Could anyone recommend some comfy slippers that look like they could be shoes, and cover the whole foot (so not ballet pumps)?

These are the slippers I was wearing: https://www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-sheepskin-cropped-slipper-boots-light-grey/p110970563?size=3&s_ppc=2dx92700078342469774_brand_mixed_BAU&tmad=c&tmcampid=2&gclid=CjwKCAjw15eqBhBZEiwAbDomEq9KvjXLORj9mTAJxXNnTZXnnoku3kAj4oSrHkGtNOHWGnWqXz3ZHBoCFdcQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

Clearly my husband finds them very unsexy.

Would be interested to know people's thoughts on wearing slippers generally.

They're not bad OP, I thought they were going to be like these!

🤣

Here's a picture of my DH's slippers. Not exactly alluring....

He thinks his are nicer than mine. He would point out that he only wears them occasionally, not all day (like I often do in the winter).

Yours are much better than those.

Pezdeoro41 · 05/11/2023 16:24

These are really cool slippers! I don’t get the nursing home comments from some PPs, they’ve obviously missed the latest UGG style all the celebs are wearing - as actual shoes!

Tessisme · 05/11/2023 16:58

MIL is 80 and has fallen so many times, but she refuses to wear decent, supportive slippers. She shuffles around in these ridiculous flappy mules with soles like black ice, because she doesn't want to look like an old person. Fair enough. But, like I said, there's the falling thing ...

I love your slippers OP. Am very tempted to buy myself a pair😊

BonjourCrisette · 05/11/2023 17:20

Well, I am struggling to find your husband's slippers particularly sexy. I'd say your slippers and his are around the same level of sexiness (low).

Obviously normal people don't choose their slippers by the criterion of sexiness but as he mentioned it first...

Imagwine · 05/11/2023 17:44

It made me laugh that my brother and sil always used to laugh at our slippers and mock us light heartedly for wearing them. Lo and behold, a few years later they bring their slippers with them when they visit us. Old age/comfort over style gets to us all in time 😂

helenatroy · 05/11/2023 17:49

Men are weird. My husband once told me that each time I leave a pair of my balled up socks on the bed he hates as it gives old peoples home vibes. He also dislikes furniture arranged in a line for the same reason.

godmum56 · 05/11/2023 17:50

I'd let HIM go and keep the slippers

Mamasharp97 · 05/11/2023 17:52

if you like them keep them! If my husband hates my slippers then he can look at the rest of me that I’ve let go 😂

Blueink · 05/11/2023 17:52

He’s hardly walking around like a Hollywood leading man in those tatty dirty old things OP!

If he hardly wears them he’s had them years, they’re letting themselves go all on their own

MissingMoominMamma · 05/11/2023 17:59

Ahh, who cares what he thinks! Comfort is all! ☺️

MumOfOneAwesomeHuman · 05/11/2023 18:00

I’d keep the slippers and ditch the husband.

LouLou198 · 05/11/2023 18:04

@MumOfOneAwesomeHuman I was just thinking the same Grin

kthnxbai · 05/11/2023 18:05

Your DH can do one, sorry.
And anyone else spewing the "Let yourself go.." shaming garbage. Slippers for cold weather do a job, just like welly boots.

Those look warm and comfy OP, you lucky thing. Enjoy them.

Tinwoodswoman · 05/11/2023 18:07

OMG! far more frumpy than that, but they are sheepskin and they keep my feet cosy in the winter. I am aware my DH isn’t particularly impressed with them, but frankly I don’t give a flying fuck. Don’t waste your money keep the warm slippers!

katseyes7 · 05/11/2023 18:09

I'd be wearing them in bed for the foreseeable, and see if he still finds them so repellent when he hasn't had sex for weeks. 😁

MumOfOneAwesomeHuman · 05/11/2023 18:00

I’d keep the slippers and ditch the husband.

Let him go, let him go
That perfect girl is gone
Here I stand in the light of day
I'll put the sheepskin on!

snowlady4 · 05/11/2023 18:15

I like them. They're like uggs, with better support.
What does he wear on his feet?
I would tell him to do one. Your slippers are fine!

sunights · 05/11/2023 18:16

If my DH made a comment like that I'd go and buy a housecoat and some Nora Batty (Last of the Summer Wine) wrinkly ankle stockings. It's not my job to look sexy for others, I want to be comfortable and feel secure at home and will dress up when I want to which is usually when going out.

LadyCuntington · 04/11/2023 14:45

Well your husband is right. You need to look pretty for him to ensure you keep his interest - I would personally take a long hard look at your wardrobe if this is the standard you go for

Are you stuck in 1950?

Sally543 · 05/11/2023 18:26

Stand naked except the slipper and ask him to repeat that comment and see what he does 🤣🤣

NannaKaren · 05/11/2023 18:26

Goodness tell him to F off!
they are only slippers and look good to me!

neilyoungismyhero · 05/11/2023 18:31

I bought a pair from Deichmann's in the week. Sheepskin in pink or beige- £7.99 ...and I love them.

NotAScoobyDo · 05/11/2023 18:32

I’d be letting him go OP 😆
Would he prefer you not wear slippers but have the heating on full?! Perhaps he’d like to pay the heating bill instead.
I think I’d tell him where to shove his opinion, nicely of course 😂
