Husband called my new slippers 'you've let yourself go' slippers.

I brought some new slippers recently - nice sheepskin ones from John Lewis which I thought looked nice.

I wore them yesterday evening after a hot bath. My husband looked at them, laughed, and in a semi-joking way said they should be called 'you've let yourself go' slippers.

Could anyone recommend some comfy slippers that look like they could be shoes, and cover the whole foot (so not ballet pumps)?

Clearly my husband finds them very unsexy.

Would be interested to know people's thoughts on wearing slippers generally.

I have a pair of rabbit skin moccasins that I bought in Canada from a local craft place about 25 years ago. They probably are about due for replacement, but not with something like those. I associate that style with the girls round here who get me hoiking my judgy pants up to my armpits because they are in the supermarket in pyjamas and dressing gowns. 😳

My DH is currently wearing his slipper boots with a hole in the toe. 😂 Slippers in our house are for comfort and warmth and not to look sexy.

He does have god-awful brown ones at my parents’ house that I mock him for. He continues to wear them because it doesn’t actually matter if I like them.

I would suspect your husband doesn't wear slippers? My husband doesn't and leaves bits of black fluff from his socks everywhere! I love those slippers and trust me anyone who can justify spending £59.00 on a pair of slippers certainly couldn't be accused of letting themselves go!

Ugly slippers … but if you like them .. why do slippers have to be sexy ?

I have let my hair go grey , hubby likes it now but when I announced I was not going to be dying my hair anymore , my hubby was clearly not impressed , the expression said it all. A few months later I caught him staring at my grey roots. ( Yes this stage wasn't my prettiest.) I called him out on it and that was the end of it.

I mean they are remarkably unsexy slippers, but also who cares. Slippers broadly lack sex appeal!

Can't this just be a joke between you and your husband? In your position I would challenge myself to arouse him whilst wearing them 😂

I really like those slippers but I also wear uggs in public and they do seem to be a love or hate thing.

That aside slippers are functional, as long as you like them and they do what you want (keep your feet warm) what does it matter what they look like and who else likes them?

It always seems to be women criticised for letting themselves go because we gain some weight, don't wear makeup all the time or choose comfort over looking "pretty" Who can be arsed to preen themselves on a daily basis for the person who is supposed to love them for who they are, not what they look like. We are humans, not robots, we can't be putting on a performance to please our spouse, it's fake and exhausting. That also applies to men as well as women.

Keep your slippers, do not replace them just because he says so!

Slippers are not sexy. But I'll tell you what's less sexy, cold feet. And even less sexy, a husband who thinks it's OK to joke about this.

I’d probably have belted said husband with said slippers. What a dickhead comment. He should see the slippers and the knickers I choose to wear, purely for comfort. I wouldn’t even be asking people about replacements either. He’s a dickhead and you sound like a doormat.

He was only having a bit of fun at her slippers. I suspect he's quite happy if she wants to wear them to keep her feet warm.
I've spent much of today in old jammies and dressing gown with slipper boots on my feet. Hardly sexy but at least comfy.
