Husband called my new slippers 'you've let yourself go' slippers.

I brought some new slippers recently - nice sheepskin ones from John Lewis which I thought looked nice.

I wore them yesterday evening after a hot bath. My husband looked at them, laughed, and in a semi-joking way said they should be called 'you've let yourself go' slippers.

Could anyone recommend some comfy slippers that look like they could be shoes, and cover the whole foot (so not ballet pumps)?

These are the slippers I was wearing: https://www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-sheepskin-cropped-slipper-boots-light-grey/p110970563?size=3&s_ppc=2dx92700078342469774_brand_mixed_BAU&tmad=c&tmcampid=2&gclid=CjwKCAjw15eqBhBZEiwAbDomEq9KvjXLORj9mTAJxXNnTZXnnoku3kAj4oSrHkGtNOHWGnWqXz3ZHBoCFdcQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

Clearly my husband finds them very unsexy.

Would be interested to know people's thoughts on wearing slippers generally.

They are cool slippers.

Buy some proper Aunt Mabel ones, that'll teach his unstylish arse.

TeaGinandFags · 04/11/2023 21:10

There is absolutely no substitute for warmth and comfort.

While we're on the subject, what do DH and DM wear? Thought as much.

Don't let anyone's bitchiness get you down. You chose your slippers fof a jolly good reason. Believe in it.

Even your cat is looking at them with much confusion

Slippers make me shrivel up a little inside. I am with your husband.

Wanttobekind · 04/11/2023 21:34

Those are nothing in the granny stakes compared to my sheepskin lined pink moccasin things. Probably from damart or cotton traders. I have no idea where they came from because my 73 yr old mother left them behind after a visit and I promptly concluded that they were rather handy and adopted them. My husband still likes to feel me up and calls me sexy when I’m wearing them because if you have to wear sexy slippers to make him think you’re attractive, it’s not about the slippers any more…

Mammajay · 04/11/2023 21:35

Definitely have a nursing home vibe imo

ferntwist · 04/11/2023 21:42

I think they look cute! Cosy and a bit Ugg-boot inspired. Your husband is being harsh

How do you keep your feet warm?!

ApplePieTree · 04/11/2023 22:33

I love slipper socks from Collagien. They aren’t as thick as most slippers but somehow still keep my feet warm and range from fun to chic. https://en.collegien-shop.com/slipper-socks.html?genre=women The pair I’m wearing now I’ve had about 3 years and they are still perfect - I just pop them in the washing machine every now and then.

Herne · 04/11/2023 22:34

All the 20 somethings are wearing uggs that look like this.

He clearly has no idea! Just wear them and be comfy!

LilQueenie · 04/11/2023 22:39

Are they also the type of slippers that fly across the room and slap him hard in the face OP. I think they might be.

meringue33 · 04/11/2023 22:44

Ask your husband to if he will get underfloor heating for Christmas so you can keep your sexy feet on show

Itsbritneybitch22 · 04/11/2023 22:52

@FancyFanny Any need for that shitty comment? So nasty.

Dibbydoos · 04/11/2023 22:53

In the winter, I wear lined crocs, warm and comfy. In the summer it's sliders. We don't wear shoes in the house, so it's sliders or crocs all round, lol!

Sorry OP, I agree with your DH about yours.

CaspianPlover · 04/11/2023 22:55

Tell him you will crank the heating up to tropical and wear feather and fluff mules ( you might have to google them 😅)

grumpycow1 · 04/11/2023 22:57

Are slippers ever meant to be sexy?! Keep your feet warm and stay on are the 2 most important functions I can imagine. They’re fine OP. Ask your husband if he’s wearing his ‘let himself go’ pyjamas/jeans/shoes whatever and see if he likes it.

Toloveandtowork · 04/11/2023 14:36

Yes agree it's aunt mabel in the nursing home😂

Sorry, agree with this (although possibly depends on how old you are?).

And yes, I wear slippers all the time in the house.

byprovidenceimpoverished · 04/11/2023 23:28

Do I wear these because I'm single or am I single because I wear these??? Whatever, they're SO cosy and warm (and cheap!)

If you stuck a 3 letter label beginning with 'U' on them and put them on sale with the major shoe chains, they'd fly off the internet!

So no, YANBU...they're so uncool that they're cool if you get what I mean :-)

Canisaysomething · 04/11/2023 23:52

I don’t know why but the cut of them makes them look like rip off UGGs you got for a fiver down the local market.

JoanThursday1972 · 04/11/2023 23:55

Sounds like he is a bit of a prat and wants you prancing around in a frilly negligee and fluffy mules like Mildred in George and Mildred. Silly man. What does he look like when chilling at home, Chris Hemsworth in his jockey shorts? Thought not.
