Husband called my new slippers 'you've let yourself go' slippers.

I brought some new slippers recently - nice sheepskin ones from John Lewis which I thought looked nice.

I wore them yesterday evening after a hot bath. My husband looked at them, laughed, and in a semi-joking way said they should be called 'you've let yourself go' slippers.

Could anyone recommend some comfy slippers that look like they could be shoes, and cover the whole foot (so not ballet pumps)?

These are the slippers I was wearing: https://www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-sheepskin-cropped-slipper-boots-light-grey/p110970563?size=3&s_ppc=2dx92700078342469774_brand_mixed_BAU&tmad=c&tmcampid=2&gclid=CjwKCAjw15eqBhBZEiwAbDomEq9KvjXLORj9mTAJxXNnTZXnnoku3kAj4oSrHkGtNOHWGnWqXz3ZHBoCFdcQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

Clearly my husband finds them very unsexy.

Would be interested to know people's thoughts on wearing slippers generally.

I quite like them, they do have a Mrs Doubtfire look to them but honestly they look really comfortable and warm

NearlyMonday · 04/11/2023 18:59

OP, I think my DH would make the same comments as your DH!

I would be wearing these 24/7. Maybe he’d find them sexier though, who knows

I would take that as a judgement about some other area he’s not happy about OP. If they were on the feet of a size 8 Insta model I’m going to guess they’d still be fuckable. So my assumption would be that he’s not happy with your sex life and it’s a handy thing to be scathing about.

What a leap?!? Perhaps she’s just mildly hurt at the comment. I’ve got 12 yr old Bailey Ugg boots in tan that I wear as slippers I think are a bit cuter. No one has ever said anything negative. I think it maybe a combo of the colour and shape. Ie a different sheepskin style could be cuter/ more fashion but ultimately slippers aren’t intended as sexy

They look SOOO comfy and cosy!
I recommend you grab one of those slippers and slap your hubby's arse with it, bigly!

They look lovely. Tell him they are not meant to be sexy. If you want sex you let him know, sometime in the spring when the weather warms up and you don't need slippers.

AInightingale · 04/11/2023 19:27

Looks like your husband's attitudes stem from his father, OP. Maybe he associated slippers with working class women and commonness and Hilda Ogden.

Slippers aren't meant to be sexy they are supposed to be cosy. There's a time and a place.

Does you husband often sound like Hugh Heffner or is this a new development?

She doesn’t actually mean that literally.

I think she should! It's horrible to have cold feet.

BOOTS52PollyPrissyPants · 04/11/2023 20:24

I think they are lovely and stylish and are not cheap looking at all.
Tell him to feck off and you will wear what you like and what does he want, high heeled slippers and a thong in the middle of winter.
Is he always so dismissive of you and what you wear.

Especially if you kick him up the arse while wearing them.

ithinkthatmaybeimdreaming · 04/11/2023 20:38

They are slippers, they're not supposed to be sexy!! I wear Ugg boots as slippers, couldn't give a ff what anyone else thinks.

Seriously, you are considering buying another pair of slippers because your husband doesn't like the ones you have just bought? Even though you like them and they are comfortable? I sincerely hope the day never comes when I ditch something I like because of another person's opinion.

Ididivfama · 04/11/2023 20:38

They’re in no way cute but I don’t know why he said that.

Sunsetmom · 04/11/2023 20:40

i think they are bang on trend tbh, everyone seems to be wearing Ugg type shoes at the min! Tell him to sod off 🤣

Now THAT's what she needs! Brilliant find!

I was fully prepared to jump to your defence…….then I looked at the slippers!

They do have very strong “Aunty Mabel that lives in the nursing home” vibes!

I agree - like those slippers with big velcro straps for women with swollen feet who can hardly walk!

BUT

I have found the last couple of winters so chilly that I've invested in ugly sheepskin slippers and I don't care that they're ugly. They're warmer than anything else.

So carry on, op!

Do you wear slippers all the time in winter when you're in the house? To those who sometimes work from home, do you wear them then too?

Mine are so comfy I could easily wear them all the time..... I would take them off if we have guests though - would others?!

I wouldn't dream of taking my slippers off when I have guests. In fact I've been known to take my slippers to other people's houses!

These are my current ones; not fluffy and warm so I usually wear socks but a good solid sole for the hard floors.

Smileatthesmallthings · 04/11/2023 20:51

With pic.

Husband called my new slippers 'you've let yourself go' slippers.
GlobalCitz · 04/11/2023 21:00

Every single girl/young woman I know wears those when out and about, so you're bang on trend.

AzureBlue99 · 04/11/2023 21:02

They are a bit nursing home.
