Husband called my new slippers 'you've let yourself go' slippers.

I brought some new slippers recently - nice sheepskin ones from John Lewis which I thought looked nice.

I wore them yesterday evening after a hot bath. My husband looked at them, laughed, and in a semi-joking way said they should be called 'you've let yourself go' slippers.

Could anyone recommend some comfy slippers that look like they could be shoes, and cover the whole foot (so not ballet pumps)?

These are the slippers I was wearing: https://www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-sheepskin-cropped-slipper-boots-light-grey/p110970563?size=3&s_ppc=2dx92700078342469774_brand_mixed_BAU&tmad=c&tmcampid=2&gclid=CjwKCAjw15eqBhBZEiwAbDomEq9KvjXLORj9mTAJxXNnTZXnnoku3kAj4oSrHkGtNOHWGnWqXz3ZHBoCFdcQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

Clearly my husband finds them very unsexy.

Would be interested to know people's thoughts on wearing slippers generally.

Greet him tomorrow wearing some bear claw slippers.

Loving my slippers from this small company, feel the need to give them a plug, sold out last year but I’m wearing a pair now and they are sooo comfy.

Those are fabulous, and very well priced. Have cancelled my John Lewis order and bought myself a pair of crimson ones with orange soles. I'll be the envy of every slipper-wearer that I know.

For those with weirdly shaped feet or very specific requirements I can recommend Susie's handmade sheepskin boots, made in Wales to order. Choose your colours, braids and style. They're not cheap but you can get them repaired and they don't wear out. My partner bought a new pair after 20 years — but only because a friend's puppy chewed them to bits.

I got the impression OP’s DH was having a laugh with her, don’t know why people are calling him a dick. We do slob around in our PJs , but I wouldn’t wear these , too Grannyish, but then they’d be far too hot for me anyway. I prefer open toes.

Mycatisdrivingmemad · 04/11/2023 17:42

They look like hooves

I had a pair like that last year, they were horribly itchy because the fleece had been cut wrongly, it was like wearing bristles.

No pain no gain though - surely itchiness doesn't matter if they are going to fire up her other half while she's doing the housework?

Maleficentient · 04/11/2023 17:54

Show us the husband...

babyproblems · 04/11/2023 17:56

I was going to say pretty sure these slippers are just the John Lewis dupe of the Ugg slippers. I’d say they’re pretty on trend as slippers go. He’s a sex god is he your DH? I’d be calling his favourite jumper his ‘grandad sweater’ from now on!!!

Tarquina · 04/11/2023 17:59

May I add my name to the growing list of women who want to see your husband's slippers?

And if they don't cause a whole bunch of wet minges then LTB.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 no stop , I'm gonna pee myself .

Vicliz24 · 04/11/2023 18:07

I don't just want to see the slippers I want the full Brad Pitt he obviously is .

CinnamonJellyBeans · 04/11/2023 18:11

Fair enough, they're hardly glamorous, but that's not what he said.

He made comments that make it clear to you that you should dress to please him and failure to do so implies some kind of slobbish slovenliness on your part.

Do not accept this.

CinnamonJellyBeans · 04/11/2023 18:12

...I think they're kind of cute and much more sexy than my complete granny slippers.

AfraidToRun · 04/11/2023 18:13

Who made him King of Footwear?

VitoCorleoneOfMNMafia · 04/11/2023 18:13

LTB. Not because he didn't like the slippers but because he used the phrase "let yourself go". If he thinks that being comfortable in your own home means you've stopped caring about your appearance generally, then he's a sexist pig and an idiot. He wouldn't say that about a man, would he?

Two posts up, CinnamonJellyBeans has articulated this much better than me whilst I was typing.

CommonOrNot · 04/11/2023 18:14

I thought you were going to say some awful moccasin type. Those are nice. Though I do love the ugg toe thong ones as my go to.

Moveoverdarlin · 04/11/2023 18:14

I’d replace the husband, not the slippers.

THisbackwithavengeance · 04/11/2023 18:17

God, it's slippers. And expensive ones as well.

I can't imagine my DH having an opinion about slippers.

Out of interest, what would he suggest you wear instead?

Do sexy slippers exist?

Well it worked, since the ops response wasn't to tell him to fuck off, but to look for slippers that would please him.

Nanny0gg · 04/11/2023 17:25

Whilst I think the OP should wear any slippers she likes, I'm 65+ and wouldn't wear them ever!

But then I like my £12.99 M&S mules!

I agree, she should wear what she wants. I’d just laugh if my partner didn’t like my crocs for example 😂 he’d be entitled to his opinion but I’m entitled to wear what I want in my own house

Fair point - that was maybe a bit ageist of me …many older people are very stylish!

Clingfilm · 04/11/2023 18:22

I see those style slippers on Kardashian type women in their 20s who wear gym clothes (and said slippers) to the corner shop or getting petrol. Far from granny.

Exactly! Old ladies do NOT wear slippers like these at all.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 04/11/2023 18:48

I've got a pair of black cat slipper from John Lewis's and a pair of bunny slippers from TK Maxx. No husband, perhaps unsurprisingly. Slippers are for being comfortable and relaxed at home in. What are HIS like? I'm betting on fur fabric-lined tweed.
