Husband called my new slippers 'you've let yourself go' slippers.

I brought some new slippers recently - nice sheepskin ones from John Lewis which I thought looked nice.

I wore them yesterday evening after a hot bath. My husband looked at them, laughed, and in a semi-joking way said they should be called 'you've let yourself go' slippers.

Could anyone recommend some comfy slippers that look like they could be shoes, and cover the whole foot (so not ballet pumps)?

These are the slippers I was wearing: https://www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-sheepskin-cropped-slipper-boots-light-grey/p110970563?size=3&s_ppc=2dx92700078342469774_brand_mixed_BAU&tmad=c&tmcampid=2&gclid=CjwKCAjw15eqBhBZEiwAbDomEq9KvjXLORj9mTAJxXNnTZXnnoku3kAj4oSrHkGtNOHWGnWqXz3ZHBoCFdcQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

Clearly my husband finds them very unsexy.

Would be interested to know people's thoughts on wearing slippers generally.

They're just slippers. They're not supposed to be sexy. Your husband is being a dick.

This.

My husband reckons I’ve let myself go. What he means is that I look like a middle-aged woman, which I do (greying hair, less muscle tone). He also means that I now wear clothes I feel comfortable in and that are appropriate for my main activities of childcare, cooking, cleaning and lazing. When I worked in an office I wore clothes appropriate to that, they were expensive uncomfortable and black and I hated them but I guess he liked that more.

If I really let myself go and grew out all the chin hair he’d be in for a hell of a shock.

Husband also looks far less sexy than he did at age 25 but I do not comment on that to him because I am not a dick.

Illbebythesea · 04/11/2023 17:01

They’re really on trend, so your husband has no style. I wouldn’t take his advice 😂

MonikerBing · 04/11/2023 17:01

Is there such a thing as sexy slippers? All of those posters saying that they look like something their grandmother in a nursing home would wear - what are they wearing?

Unless it's a pair of maribou mules, (which aren't exactly practical for taking the bins out), I wonder what people are wearing?

I wear birkenstock mules but my teenage dds all have (fake) ugg slippers.

whatisforteamum · 04/11/2023 17:02

All of the sheepskin or faux sheepskin mules give an old person vibe and the colour makes them worse.
It depends whether you want warm feet though.
Fat face normally do some cuter ones.

Princessfluffy · 04/11/2023 17:03

My DH thinks I look good in any slippers.
So should yours OP.

I‘m a slipper fan, and normally buy felted wool ones from Living Kitzbühel - I had some cute black ones with a pom pom on (very Tinkerbell) which were also lovely and warm, but the‘ve discontinued them. I’m in the market for a new pair, and am going to try wool ones from Pampuschen. Sorry - I think the website is only in german 🤔

I love these - but the price!

AInightingale · 04/11/2023 17:04

I don't know if anyone remembers the 70s/80s PVC cooking apron which featured a naked female body with huge norks so you could slave over a hot stove/kitchen sink while looking like a Page 3 model. OP's husband would probably approve of those. Very sexy.

MacarenaMacarena · 04/11/2023 17:05

Well isn't he charming...

Tighginn · 04/11/2023 17:05

What age are you?

5128gap · 04/11/2023 17:07

Unless you want to totter round in 70s high heeled mules with maribu fur and diamanté then you are not going to find anything sexy in the least come hither demographic of the footware community.
I assume your H was joking anyway. And if he wasn't, too bad. Be comfy.

Mustreadabook · 04/11/2023 17:08

I think your slippers look fine, but if you want some that look like shoes I currently have fur lined crocs. I wouldn't wear crocs as shoes but some people do. Not sure that makes them sexy though. (Mine are also gold and glittery!)

Chromium24 · 04/11/2023 17:10

@Candathon If they make you happy and you like to wear them then why not wear them anyway ?

kerstina · 04/11/2023 17:10

I think it’s your husband who is out of touch with what younger women are wearing ? I bought Ugg tasman years ago best slippers I ever bought but now I have some similar to yours from emu Australia .I bought some similar to yours for my DS last year . He is 21 and refused to wear them so maybe men just don’t like them lol.
I really like those the white company someone linked very pretty but is it just me being cynical that I think the white company could be behind this thread ?

Shodan · 04/11/2023 17:12

I saw some over-the-knee fluffy slipper things on Amazon in a wide variety of colours. Get those and tell him they're stockings.

BebbanburgIsMine · 04/11/2023 17:12

I've always worn "auld wifie" slippers, cosy and comfy, never cared what anyone else thinks.

Yours look so comfortable and cosy OP, way, way out of my budget though!

Blueink · 04/11/2023 17:13

Obviously OP you are meant, even in your own (cold) home, to be a decorative object for the benefit solely of a man’s gaze and so are your slippers.

Bin him, keep the slippers (only half joking, but would be considering his comment in context).

Paddington bear stare and add cozy hat, fingerless gloves and thick bed socks.

Or swan around with goosebumps in silk and lace with high heeled mules.

Fluffy lined trainers you can wear to the shop 😂

Sugaristheenemy · 04/11/2023 17:21

Clearly my husband finds them very unsexy.

Are slippers supposed to be sexy?

Nanny0gg · 04/11/2023 17:25

Girlswillbetwirls · 04/11/2023 16:04

Same 😂 they’re awful. Some boot style ones might be better looking. I’d expect those on a 65+ woman. That said, I wear crocs as slippers and I know a lot of people find them ghastly 😆 but I have plantar fasciitis and they are great for my feet

On a more serious note I wonder if, as a pp said, he’s feeling you’ve let yourself go in other ways. Perhaps this was a subtle indirect dig at that, as I can’t imagine he’s that bothered about the slippers really

Whilst I think the OP should wear any slippers she likes, I'm 65+ and wouldn't wear them ever!

But then I like my £12.99 M&S mules!

dutysuite · 04/11/2023 17:26

I like them! I would not give a damn if my husband said this to me, I'd laugh and continue to wear them!

CranfordScones · 04/11/2023 17:29

Yeah, but do they have pockets?

On the plus side, they're not tartan.

Theokaycokey · 04/11/2023 17:30

Is this not environmentally wrong to go out and buy another pair simply because your husband doesn't like them. You've got them now. At least wear them.

arethereanyleftatall · 04/11/2023 17:30

I think people would think I was joking if I said LTB over this, but once you've been in a Longterm marriage, been divorced, and are out the other side - there's no way on Earth I'd tolerate any new partner (if I wanted one) saying this. Why put up with criticism? It doesn't make you feel good. Just wear what you want.

GrumpyPanda · 04/11/2023 17:32

Tell him you'd rather wear you've let yourself go slippers than fuck me heels. Particularly if it's for his benefit. Or ask him to perform some pole dancing for you.

MonumentalLentil · 04/11/2023 17:38

Mytholmroyd · 04/11/2023 16:35

Are these sheepskin slippers sufficiently sexy? Asking for a friend

I had a pair like that last year, they were horribly itchy because the fleece had been cut wrongly, it was like wearing bristles.

Graasspp · 04/11/2023 17:39

Candathon · 04/11/2023 16:04

What I would love is slippers which look like trainers on the outside, but which are fluffy and soft on the inside. So I can pop to the shop in them.

That really is letting yourself go.

What's the point of slippers if you do that in them?

My point of slippers I'd cozy, clean shoes for the house
