Husband called my new slippers 'you've let yourself go' slippers.

I brought some new slippers recently - nice sheepskin ones from John Lewis which I thought looked nice.

I wore them yesterday evening after a hot bath. My husband looked at them, laughed, and in a semi-joking way said they should be called 'you've let yourself go' slippers.

Could anyone recommend some comfy slippers that look like they could be shoes, and cover the whole foot (so not ballet pumps)?

These are the slippers I was wearing: https://www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-sheepskin-cropped-slipper-boots-light-grey/p110970563?size=3&s_ppc=2dx92700078342469774_brand_mixed_BAU&tmad=c&tmcampid=2&gclid=CjwKCAjw15eqBhBZEiwAbDomEq9KvjXLORj9mTAJxXNnTZXnnoku3kAj4oSrHkGtNOHWGnWqXz3ZHBoCFdcQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

Clearly my husband finds them very unsexy.

Would be interested to know people's thoughts on wearing slippers generally.

OP, I love your slippers! I have a similar pair (a few years old though). For me, slippers need to be comfy, warm and something that won’t fall off my feet easily. I don’t give a damn whether they’re “sexy” or not. I will wear them about the house, even if I have visitors.

I wouldn’t replace them if I were you. What sort of slipper does your DH expect you to wear?

EddieBlackadder · 04/11/2023 16:40

I'm going to deviate from the fashion perspective and say those slippers are probably going to make your feet smell like moldy Brie.

DesignatedRoom · 04/11/2023 16:41

He should count himself lucky. The ultimate in unsexy slipperage is the giant monoslipper.

I expect your DH wants you to wear stilettos does he. You're not meant to be a decorative ornament, there to entertain him and please his eyes. When you're at home, it should be about comfort, warmth, kicking off your public appearance and enjoying home comforts not having to adorn yourself for his delectation. Sod that.

I‘m a slipper fan, and normally buy felted wool ones from Living Kitzbühel - I had some cute black ones with a pom pom on (very Tinkerbell) which were also lovely and warm, but the‘ve discontinued them. I’m in the market for a new pair, and am going to try wool ones from Pampuschen. Sorry - I think the website is only in german 🤔

Ideal for a Dufflepud!

MrShady · 04/11/2023 16:42

Can almost guarantee a man going "not very sexy are they?" Is probably sat there wearing SpongeBob boxers with a hole in, some dodgy tracksuit bottoms and a grubby t shirt
Yet they have the nerve to say we don't look sexy? Confused

CameleonAreFightingBack · 04/11/2023 16:44

Im not interested in what my dh thinks about my slippers.
If he finds them unsexy, then so be it, he’ll have to live with it.

im wearing slippers because they are practical. They keep my feet warm. Im not sure why I should look ‘sexy’ fur anyone sake regardless of how convenient or inconvenient it feels to me.

PurpleSky09 · 04/11/2023 16:45

I love the slippers! They are great OP, don’t get rid of them!

I liked your slippers so much that I've ordered a pair, OP. Those are on-trend slippers.

So sorry for you that you have a DP who thinks that women should wear dainty 'lady' clothes and shoes and suffer the cold in order to be attractive to their partners. Fuck that. Be comfortable.

For everyone who's saying they're old-lady slippers, your ageism is noted.

@SwirlyShirly it looks like your DH has matched his slippers to your pet but in a really stylish way - just partly.

BitofaStramash · 04/11/2023 16:46

If my DH said that I'd use them to kick his erse (joke).

They look lovely and comfy OP

lilsupersparks · 04/11/2023 16:48

perhaps not to everyone’s taste, but those seem very like the trendy ‘mini uggs’ so if he’s going to make comments about fashion sense he’s not very up with comments about current fashion. I have fake ugg style boots from Asda as my slippers - certainly not as nice as yours!

SweetBirdsong · 04/11/2023 16:50

Oh dear @Candathon I think they're hideous! 😆I'm nearly 50 and can't see myself wearing anything like this for another 40 years! I am with your DH!

EtiennePalmiere · 04/11/2023 16:51

The shape reminds me of Simpsons characters, there's definitely worse out there though.

I agree slippers for women are either "mature" or childish with Snoopy print etc. Boiled wool can look ok but are way too hot for me !

Manhattanmiss · 04/11/2023 16:51

I own a pair and I love them

Bambooshoot · 04/11/2023 16:53

Funny! About 25 years ago, I bought a French Connection jumper that my boyfriend at the time named “the dumping jumper” as he hated it so much, apparently all I would need to do was don said jumper and no more discussion would be required!! I thought it was very inoffensive - navy, vague knitted pattern, v neck - but apparently no. . . .

CuteAsDuck · 04/11/2023 16:53

The slippers aren't the problem here.

What does your DH wear on his feet in the house?

Duckingella · 04/11/2023 16:53

menopausalmare · 04/11/2023 14:45

We wear gumbies. Felt upper, rubber sole so you can pop to the bins.

I have gumbies too;so practical and comfortable;my husband liked them so much he brought his own;I have the flip flops for summer and I ended up buying some for my hubby and daughter who love theirs too

Asurvivor · 04/11/2023 16:54

I have a pair of Glerups “home shoes”, they are a lovely cranberry colour and not at all nursing home! They are a Danish brand so perfect for hygge at home.

HerMammy · 04/11/2023 16:56

These are the actual boots of them & every female between 16-30 I know is wearing them, so definitely not unfashionable.

Husband called my new slippers 'you've let yourself go' slippers.
jlpth · 04/11/2023 16:57

Those slippers are practical and fashionable - foolish husband.

tolerable · 04/11/2023 16:58

my mum always wore feathered heeled slippers....

MeMySonAnd1 · 04/11/2023 16:58

RunningUpThatBuilding · 04/11/2023 14:34

I was fully prepared to jump to your defence…….then I looked at the slippers!

They do have very strong “Aunty Mabel that lives in the nursing home” vibes!

same here (sorry)

Humbugg · 04/11/2023 16:59

I’m 33 and I wear a proper older lady slipper - moccasin type slippers.

couldn’t care less
