£500 M&S order - want to know what I bought?

Mumsanetta · 02/11/2023 13:08

I know I’m not the only one who thinks M&S are having a great season so thought I would share my huge order - see the photos in the post below. It’s a mix of work wear and casual wear.

I’ve chosen pieces that will work with my version of a capsule autumn/winter wardrobe and will compliment the following items that I seriously love:

Bottoms
Hush leather culottes
Dorothy Perkins leather pinafore
H&M high waisted black trousers - I sized down for a more fitted look
M&S Black leather leggings
Primark midaxi leather pencil skirt
Primark black slip dress which I will wear as a skirt

Tops
H&M brown/grey sweater
Part Two Gertie black and white striped sweater
Stitch Fix Editor’s Cut oversized light grey button cardigan (no link)

Shoes
White chunky Fila trainers
Fitflop tan Allegro flats
M&S Chelsea knee high boots

Accessories
Accessorize black cross body bag
Accessorize jewel initial necklace
Accessorize layered gold necklaces

Some stuff is sold out or doesn’t have any links because it’s old. Please can you share what’s in your capsule wardrobe to give me some ideas!

HUSH Riko Leather Culottes

Culottes are so flattering on every body and the Riko style add a luxe touch to the classic style. They’re crafted from smooth leather with pressed pleats along the wide legs. We’ll be wearing ours with a cosy knit and loafers. + Outer: 100% Leather...

Hi OP. Just came on to say you don't look like a size 16.

Delatron · 02/11/2023 17:51

I guess they’re following the online model of Next by selling other brands? Which is wise. As I’m not a Next shopper but do like the brands they stock. Delivery is quick (often next day) and returns easy. So good on M&S for broadening their online offering. Those that don’t go just (see Topshop).

Mumsanetta · 02/11/2023 17:51

@70isaLimitNotaTarget both very cute boots! I like the shiny lace ups as they have that DM vibe but would prefer a matt boot with leather leggings to balance the shine. I’m wide of hip so tend to also prefer a wider/heavier boot to even the proportions a bit more. The S&B board is getting very expensive for me!

Tough crowd hey op 😂

I like those trousers a lot by the way...I'm also the same height and size as you so might have a look myself

Hi OP. Just came on to say you don't look like a size 16.

I’m an hourglass with long legs for a short person which helps me to carry weight well!

@Comedycook yeah 😂
I started the thread because it’s the type of thread I would like others to start, particularly women who are same height and size as me, as it’s good inspiration. I was also going to respond to the poster who dissed some of the brands I wear but lost my response - my wardrobe is a mix of both high street and high end. I like nice, good quality clothes and Primark, Dorothy Perkins and H&M don’t always mean crap quality - I’ve had the Primark items I listed for 2 years now and I’ve had my favourite long line cardi from H&M for longer than I’ve known my DH!

The black H&M trousers are now sold out online but there are other colours and still some instore so worth a check as they’re very flattering.

I like those long chelsea boots.leather and a good price.

MrsHarrisAParis · 02/11/2023 18:28

I'm finding M&S trouser sizing and lengths very inconsistent atm so cannot be bothered with having to try umpteen different permutations to find what fits in each style. But I like the wide-legged jeans from Hush. I might try those.
And possibly the leather look leggings from M&S. I find leggings are the only consistently sized trousers they produce!
I have the leopard print belt and usually wear it with black dresses. I'm currently in love with my Michael Kors Gloria belt in neutral so haven't been wearing the leopard print as much.
I'm leaning into beige and neutrals this autumn/winter so have a long trench from ASOS; high waisted wide-legged trousers; a skort.

£500? Pretty tasteless to brag when so many can't afford to feed their kids...

I adore those boots! I wore them through winter and spring last year, gave them a polish at the beginning of summer and popped them in my loft. Brought them back down a few weeks ago and they look as good as new.

@MrsHarrisAParis i know what you mean about M&S trouser sizing. I find I’m either an 18 petite or 16 regular in trousers. I have two pairs of the plain black high waisted leggings and wear them with a white M&S pure linen shirt, sports socks, chunky white trainers, cross body bag, layered necklaces and red lipstick - such a simple and comfy outfit but I feel so well put together when I’m running errands or doing the school drop off. I should add that I’ve got a wobbly bum and tum so I wear the leggings with the M&S full brief control pants for a nice silhouette!

Mumsanetta · 02/11/2023 18:53

@MrsHarrisAParis just to add that I think the leopard print belt would look fab with the trench and wide leg trousers.

Mumsanetta · 02/11/2023 18:58

@Catsfrontbum those cords, oh my. I don’t own a single item from Toast so will need help. What’s the sizing like vs M&S? I would wear those cords with a cream silk shirt and red lip. But what shoes?

whispers “it’s ok, don’t worry, you’ll be fine” to my Mastercard

I like the leather leggings, OP and have looked at them many times myself. They're nothing like I'd normally wear though and every time I think might just be brave enough to try them, they sell out 😂

This is Style and Beauty. It's not bragging. Many people have much more to spend and others have less. We don't have to wear sackcloth and ashes. It's nice to get style ideas.

Fifireee · 02/11/2023 19:29

How fab. You've got some lovely things x

LoobyDop · 02/11/2023 19:40

I agree that M&S have been really good the last couple of years, but only two or three items on your list are actually M&S.

Softpebbles · 02/11/2023 19:40

I’ve got the midaxi leather skirt on order!
@Poblano I like those wide leg trousers.

ThePoshUns · 02/11/2023 19:42

That's a lot of pleather, hope you've got plenty of talc

SingleMum11 · 02/11/2023 19:43

I like the fit flops - am looking for something for around the house but I get sore feet - plantar fasciitis- do you know if there is any support/are they comfortable?

KingsleyBorder · 02/11/2023 19:45

Massively confused! Since when did Marks & Spencer sell other brands?!

Mumsanetta · 02/11/2023 19:54

@PersephonePomegranate23 this is a sign that you should order them!

@Poblano the wide leg trousers are really lovely. Are they adjustable in the back?

My second post has photos of what I ordered from M&S. The other items listed on my first post are just what else is in my capsule (but growing) wardrobe for autumn/winter.
