What the hell do 14 year old girls wear to weddings?

Rainbowshit · 28/10/2023 21:10

Need a dress for DD.

She's quite tall so in adult sizes. She's not the kind of 14 year old that is into wearing teeny tiny strappy dresses that seem to be in. Equally she's too old for the monsoon type girls dresses that were so easy when she was younger.

Can anyone help?

Jump suit? Nice fitted dress depending on what she's comfy with?
Try Shein, or pretty little thing, I saw it first etc (depending on when wedding is)

Comedycook · 28/10/2023 21:16

I was also.going to suggest a jump suit!

My 13 yearold chose this for a wedding in December, from Monsoon. She's already 1m70 and skinny as a pencil but this works well. She will wear it with tights and chunky patent Maryjanes we found at Zara.

It's hard, mine lives in flared jeans, hoodies and tiny tiny teeshirts, I was delighted when she chose this. Most Monsoon is very babyish or too flouncy but this one works, I know you mentioned it was not an option.

Whatever she wants really…

VanCleefArpels · 28/10/2023 21:21

Skater dress? Can be worn with ankle boots if winter, ballet flats if summer - these from M& S as an example

H and m kids go up to age 16, so may be something in there? Swing/shift dresses are good at that age.

Windmill34 · 28/10/2023 22:07

Most 14yr olds like to pick there own
take her shopping and let her choose herself

She will be choosing. She doesn't know what she wants.

When and where is it the wedding - I'm assuming a UK winter wedding?

I think the green is too childish / bridesmaidy and too summery if a winter wedding. But I like the black and white one.

What does she wear weekends and if you were to go out? Is she into clothes and make up? And where do you buy your clothes? What's here Adult dress size and height?

Also shoes - read somewhere to dress from shoes up!

To be fair its and awkward age and depends on the teen!

What about something like this?

Ooh good questions.

Wedding is in 2 weeks in Scotland.

She is into makeup and clothes. At the weekend she wears something like cargos and a crop stripy top or joggers and a slouchy jumper.

She likes summer dresses, but she only ever buys white so not suitable for the wedding.

This is what she bought for a summer event: www.quizclothing.co.uk/clothes/00100037314.html#mz-expanded-view-1213032658362

She's pale, blonde with pale green eyes. Suits greens and pale blues. Black and darker colours are not really her thing.

Shoes are going to be an issue too. That dress she wore on the summer was worn with air force ones.

She's a UK 6-8 and is 5'7"

What about this style? Can be dressed up with heels/bag/jewellery, or down with pumps.

This maybe too grown up, it would likely look stunning given her height and hair colour.

Or she could go trousers with a pretty top?

That white dress is lovely!

I think a winter Scottish wedding I think tartan! But would never be brave enough to wear it!

She will be better off in the adults section and a midi dress sound like a good idea asos have millions. I'll see what I can find.

zeibesaffron · 29/10/2023 00:04

I agree the green dress looks childish - when my daughter was 14 / 15 we had a couple of weddings - went to quiz, lipsy, boohoo (online) and new look to shop! Loads of choice and good value as their tastes will change!!

grumpycow1 · 29/10/2023 00:32

At that age I would have gone with my mum to choose my own outfit, or ordered from a catalogue.

how about this https://www.monsoon.co.uk/evie-velvet-bow-dress-6407660753.html?gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjw4vKpBhCZARIsAOKHoWRI3AgNMXzgGETPLunQi9oI7gWbRUyxif-LF-pZpdCYTOts4JODhZ0aAjUFEALw_wcB

Mummyoflittledragon · 29/10/2023 01:33

My 15 yo wore this to a wedding last month with an off white jacket. I put a couple of stitches in the bodice to make the neckline less revealing. https://www.quizclothing.co.uk/clothes/00100035943.html
She changed into this for the evening but in coral - I bought it off vinted. The split is not as severe irl.

Maybe something like this if your dd doesn’t like strappy? As per dd’s dress, I imagine the split won’t be a noticeable. Hers didn’t show her leg at all.
