What the hell do 14 year old girls wear to weddings?

Need a dress for DD.

She's quite tall so in adult sizes. She's not the kind of 14 year old that is into wearing teeny tiny strappy dresses that seem to be in. Equally she's too old for the monsoon type girls dresses that were so easy when she was younger.

Can anyone help?

Quite a few links on here to very short dresses.

Find something knee length at least. No one should be in one of those short skater dresses at a wedding.

Its not a fashion parade, its a wedding. Focus on the fact that looking smart is respectful to the people getting married and that it's not about her.

Oh give over. She's 14 not 64, of course she can wear a short dress to a wedding.

I went to a wedding last week and teenagers and young women were wearing all kinds of dresses with chunky heels, trainers or boots.

Onethingatatime23 · 30/10/2023 09:32

I love your dress, OP.

Onethingatatime23 · 30/10/2023 09:37

Some more ideas similar to the colours you ordered.

I can see you've already purchased but just in case it doesn't work out... Have a look at Hollister. Their dresses are often really lovely.

Nice and feminine but modest as well. There's lots of options on there these are just a few I thought were cute!

Good luck 🤗

Oh do me a favour. The short dresses are more than suitable for a 14 year old even at a very smart wedding

Take a look on AX Paris
they have a huge selection of occasion dresses in loads of colours.

a1poshpaws · 30/10/2023 20:38

Try www.popsyclothing.co.uk - they have fabulous prints for women and now have a kids' range up to age 14. (From what you say of your daughter, I think she'd prefer the grown-up dresses or jumpsuits etc.) Here's just a couple of examples: https://tinyurl.com/muvmt4rs and https://tinyurl.com/33vjcpym and for shoes, how about fun Mary Jane flats from Up to 70% off – Hot Chocolate Design UK Some of the solid colour velvety ones would look great. (I'm currently desperate to budget for the mid heeled retro Red Telephone ones!)

I don't think that any of these are smart enough personally. They are the type of dress that I'd wear to the pub.

A bit clichéd is putting it mildly.

I was trying not to write a typical MN response.

Most weddings I have been to recently are a more relaxed approach. Also she's 14, it's weird when young girls dress like grown ups...

Onethingatatime23 · 01/11/2023 10:30

They do vary enormously though. Even in my house. DD2 is 14 and 5'10" - she looks about 20 at times, especially to people who aren't used to very tall teenagers. It can be quite hard to just look/dress their age and get it right. DD1 was the opposite and looked like a little kid until she was 14/15. She is 18 now and 5'5" and definitely needs her ID. People regularly think DD2 is older or one of DD1's mates the same age.

Liquorish have some nice things in the ASOS sale.

Totally disagree with @TUCKINGFYP0 !

I think the dresses you have ordered / she has chosen for herself are absolutely fabulous, suitable for both a wedding and a 14 year old. They seem a nice cross between being suitable for age, not too adult or too childish. Hopefully one of these work out! Let us know 😃

I can’t think of any 14 year old girls who would be seen in something like that. They are fairly hideous even for adults and more for going to the park than to a wedding

@Namechangeagain2023 thank you for your not so passive, aggressive attack on my clothing choices.

Also, how many 14 year old girls do you actually know?

Most of the females in the 13 - 75 year age group that I deal with think both popsy and HCD shoes are fun and cool.

Perhaps unless it's a conversation directly affecting you it would be a great idea for you to learn to practice the precept "if you can't say anything nice, say nothing at all."

Having a 14 year old i know a lot of 14 year old girls and have 2 others who are late teens and the links the OP posted are far more in line with what most 14 year old girls would wear.

Ssme92 · 02/11/2023 17:06

Sorry @a1poshpaws but I'd be inclined to agree with @Namechangeagain2023

Emgtwinkle · 06/11/2023 19:47

Ahh I remember this issue when my daughter was that age . There is a huge gap in the market for teens . Newlook have some nice Teen dresses that can be worn with tights for the winter. A Skater dress is always good for the teens or a nice jump suit .
