What the hell do 14 year old girls wear to weddings?

Rainbowshit · 28/10/2023 21:10

Need a dress for DD.

She's quite tall so in adult sizes. She's not the kind of 14 year old that is into wearing teeny tiny strappy dresses that seem to be in. Equally she's too old for the monsoon type girls dresses that were so easy when she was younger.

Can anyone help?

That white dress is lovely!

I think a winter Scottish wedding I think tartan! But would never be brave enough to wear it!

She will be better off in the adults section and a midi dress sound like a good idea asos have millions. I'll see what I can find.

Only men wear tartan at Scottish weddings. You would look really out of place turning up in a tartan dress Hmm

My slightly younger daughter likes comfy clothes and doesn't like anything tight around her waist. She lives in leggings and Tshirts. I have found a couple of trapeze style dresses for her that fall above the knee, so are very comfy but also look feminine. She wore this (Calvin Klein) to a wedding in the summer.

As a Scottish person can I just second the suggestion to definitely not wear tartan other than some sort of shawl/neckwear (female) or kilt (male) - oddly enough, we wear a whole range of styles and colours just like everyone else does!

There seem to be quite a lot of nice styles on the Quiz website which don't look too 'grown up' but also not like 'a little girl'.

PosyPrettyToes · 29/10/2023 18:33

Is she not going to be absolutely freezing in those?

cherrypied · 29/10/2023 19:50

@Ashleysaidwhat @sollenwir thankfully I'm neither going to a wedding or Scotland- It was an impulsive thought that I would never implement. I just think tartan is cute and cosy.

OP I like the next one best of all.

Tartan can be nice, but not for a woman's wedding outfit IMHO.
It's a bit clichéd to suggest Scotland =tartan.

A bit clichéd is putting it mildly.

For a wedding?! It's cute but...

The wedding ceremony and reception are in the same hotel so we won't be outside at all.

Have ordered this:

www.next.co.uk/style/su067670/c62521#c62521

And this:

GRACE KARIN Women Cold Shoulder Party Dress V-Neck High-Low Hem Flared A-Line Dress amzn.eu/d/dyx5imV

That’s great if your daughter likes that style. But it’s not what girls of her age are wearing to winter weddings in Scotland right now, it’s not the current fashion at all. It looks like what a 6 year old would wear to a summer wedding, complete with a fluffy bolero and white ankle socks.

Girls and young women up to mid 20s are all wearing these floaty floral dresses that Pp have linked to upthread. Any length at all is in fashion, usually with tights and flat shoes or boots or perhaps chunky heeled sandals.

That skin tight / sexy / clubbing / body con / cold shoulder style is for parties and clubbing. At least in most social circles.

LimeCheesecake · 29/10/2023 21:13

But will the hotel be warm?! Sorry but I’ve shivered in a country house hotel type place before now. A cardie would be good for such circumstances. She doesn’t need to wear it the whole time. Just have it as an option.

footwear - pointed flats?

DSD (16) is similar colouring and wore something like this to a wedding recently with some cheap chunky healed sandals

Colourful trouser suit. Gen Z love the wide leg trousers and prefer comfort. I’m assuming if she is leggy she will struggle to find an appropriate length skirt. She will be warm, and could make but if a statement if she likes that.

Gogodonu · 29/10/2023 22:02

My similar aged daughter wore this to a wedding in Sorrento last weekend and got SO many compliments, it was a real bargain too

Love the Hollister dress. My 15yo wouldn't wear the others. It so hard at this age, give them some choice and see how it goes, than ask us!

hard to find pale blue in winter-suitable dresses but this is the sort of thing my niece (15) wears and it’s got sleeves so she might not freeze

Take her to TK Maxx. DD and I always have fun trying on dresses there. A big range of styles and you can usually get decent quality items for a bargain.
