What the hell do 14 year old girls wear to weddings?

Need a dress for DD.

She's quite tall so in adult sizes. She's not the kind of 14 year old that is into wearing teeny tiny strappy dresses that seem to be in. Equally she's too old for the monsoon type girls dresses that were so easy when she was younger.

Can anyone help?

@PosyPrettyToes ‘s suggestion is great - far and away the best suggestion, especially if dd is style-conscious.

jenny38 · 29/10/2023 07:28

My dd would go for something bodcon dress with sleeves. She often picks out blazer type jackets too

Quiz have quite a few jumpsuits in that might be suitable. This one caught my eye for a teen at a wedding but they have plenty.

Monsoon is good for that age group for event dresses

That white dress is lovely!

I think a winter Scottish wedding I think tartan! But would never be brave enough to wear it!

She will be better off in the adults section and a midi dress sound like a good idea asos have millions. I'll see what I can find.

Why would you wear tartan?

buckeejit · 29/10/2023 09:26

My 10 year old has been choosy with wedding outfits. In the end I bought a monsoon dress & she has bought converse to wear with it.

I like the idea of a jumpsuit - there's a few velvet ones about that look nice 😁

Urban outfitters have some nice stuff, lots of long flowery pencil skirts she could wear with a little vest too and cropped cardigan or jumper (if winter wedding?)

Skater dress

Autumnalvibesofmellowness · 29/10/2023 09:34

Lipsy do really nice grown up yet fashionable little dresses.

reluctantbrit · 29/10/2023 09:40

DD got something like this when she was 14.

Looks a more grown up than H&M kids, can be worn with thick tights and boots or sheer ones and dressier shoes.

She has a couple of dresses from Apricot now.

Ooh good questions.

Wedding is in 2 weeks in Scotland.

She is into makeup and clothes. At the weekend she wears something like cargos and a crop stripy top or joggers and a slouchy jumper.

She likes summer dresses, but she only ever buys white so not suitable for the wedding.

This is what she bought for a summer event: www.quizclothing.co.uk/clothes/00100037314.html#mz-expanded-view-1213032658362

She's pale, blonde with pale green eyes. Suits greens and pale blues. Black and darker colours are not really her thing.

Shoes are going to be an issue too. That dress she wore on the summer was worn with air force ones.

Hi Op. could you buy a Dyson dye and just change the colour of the one she likes from white to pale blue? Defs a second option if she doesn’t find something she likes in the shops. Also I have a 13 year old and I’d just let her wear the airforce if that’s what she was comfortable in. We were at a wedding in April and she had a pair of primark wedges to go with her dress that she work for the service and pictures and then she put her trainers on.

My DD wore this to my brothers wedding (with cardigan as November in Poland) 2yrs ago. She looked nice and age appropriate

Does it have to be a dress? My teenage niece wore a lovely trouser suit to a formal event recently. She looked great (I do love a trouser suit though). Think it was from Zara.

Yes it has to be a dress. I did suggest a jumpsuit but she wants a a dress.

Such a tricky age. Trying to buy swimwear in the summer was even worse!

My 14 year old went to a wedding over the summer wearing a pink trouser suit from Zara with Arizona Love Pearl sandals (which are mine). She looked very smart but quite cool

Alwaystheplusone · 29/10/2023 15:45

Oh apologies! Just seen that it needs to be a dress..

HolidayHappy123 · 29/10/2023 15:49

Tons of options for jumpsuits from Lipsey on the Next website

gotomomo · 29/10/2023 15:53

To be honest I'd just take her to a larger branch of new look, H&M etc and get her to try on dresses, she may not know what she likes until she tries something
