I thought I'd do a Xmas edition of the styling threads I've done before for anyone who is interested 🎄👠

Ooh burgundy, great call, I hadn't even thought of that. Burgundy suits me too. I've been pairing the skirt with cream, which is very nice but a bit staid.

Thank you so much!

I’m loving this thread. Can I have some advice please? I am really happy with my summer style but am lost when it gets colder. In summer I wear skinny jeans or a maxi shirt dress with a blazer and trainers. I’m 5 ft 7, 50, and a size 12 or 14 hourglass. What would you suggest as a basis for a winter outfit? I need comfy footwear but haven’t ever found boots or shoes that are as comfy as my New Balances

@Littleguggi a few ideas here. I love the gold plisse style for some real glitz and glamour and the tie waist is flattering on the tummy area but I also like the simplicity of the two plainer styles which might work if you want to show off your arms and shoulders more. The Ro and Zo one has a clever pleat detail which is good for the tummy. They would look great with a gold platform and some simple jewellery

Love these. Where is the second one from - I can't see the source?

Softpebbles · 03/11/2023 15:54

@frillseeking thank you. Off looking for a coat tomorrow! Love the casual looks you posted too!

tryingmybest86 · 03/11/2023 16:32

I really like this top. Do you have a link on where I can find it?

I am trying to post the top I am talking about but it’s on the first page of this thread with the black trousers.

@Pushkinini something like this might work. A bit of subtle sparkle and a tummy skimming silhouette

Sorry- new to this. This is top I was referencing.

Hi @frillseeking , I love your threads! I’d like to get a smart/casual top or possibly dress for Christmas Day /Boxing Day so not party but dressed up a bit. My difficulty is that I’ve recently had a portacath put in and it’s very visible because I’m quite skinny around the upper chest/shoulders. I’m 5’3”, size 8/10, early 50s. I’m thinking either a polo neck but not too fine knit. Or something that I can wear a polo neck underneath. I need a high neck of some description but not an open neck.

It can be reasonably casual for family and friends get togethers rather than parties this year.

many thanks x

@artemis9 it's gorgeous isn't it. It's from Phase Eight. Some sizes are sold out but they also sell on JL and M&S. Also wanted to point out this style runs size 6-26 and is also available in petite. I think it's such a good all rounder for the Christmas season and lots of really nice details such as the little sleeve and the lovely tie waist. I also love how they're styled it with a blazer and gold boots which makes it look a little more styled

@Tired00 I keep every day looks fairly simple and base around good staples that you can mix and match easily with other pieces in your wardrobe. Below is an example. The puffer is on trend but rather then go for an oversized style, the drawstring waist gives definition to your hourglass shape. Similarly with the trousers, the shape is cool and easy to wear but the elasticated waist gives definition. Simple statement T-shirts are good to wear with jeans and you can even dress up with a midi skirt and jacket if you want a smarter look.

Hi @frillseeking any advice for a size 20-22 person in her forties? I need something to wear for a Christmas party (ideally something I can wear more than once with some versatility). I love sparkle and jewel tones and colour (but can live with grey or white or black if it’s sparkly or has interesting detail). I have huge boobs but also a big tummy unfortunately. When slimmer I was an hourglass and it’s probably still closest to my shape. Summer type colouring. The nicest thing I’ve found is this but it’s too expensive!

Have seen some gorgeous velvet and sequinned trousers but not sure they will look right on me at my size.

Budget up to £200, £300 for something really amazing! Thank you!

@BreakfastClub80 I love Sezane for simple but elevated knitwear. These two styles are both gorgeous and are more then just a basic knit. I also wondered if something like this wool knit Boden cardigan would work when it's styled buttoned up. I like how they've styled with an interesting turtleneck and it's a thick compact material so should provide decent coverage

Thank you so much!! Are the trousers wide leg or more tapered leg? This gives me so much inspiration!b

For a size 12 hourglass is there any look you’d recommend to elevate the ‘jeans and a nice top’ for a meal/drinks out on a night? Thank you again for your time!

rasellagirl · 03/11/2023 22:16

This is my Christmas jumper bought in the sale after Christmas last year

@Tired00 they're a wide leg. To dress up jeans and a top, I always throw on a black jacket and a smart boot. I also like to use simple accessories to make a look more interesting, such as a statement necklace or chunky gold hoops and a hair bow. I find it a really easy way to make an outfit a bit more on trend and put together on a budget.

Thank you for this thread! I would love some advice on basic work and weekend wardrobe staples for an early 30's mum please. I'm 5ft 3 and a size 12-14. I have an hourglass shaped body.

Thinking about it maybe I'm more pear shaped these days 🤨

Just spotted this, I love the shape!

@juicy0 gorgeous shape. It's not cheap but I think it's really versatile. You could dress it down with boots and a suede gilet for a smart lunch or wear with heels for a night out and the ruching is gorgeous

@rasellagirl seeing the jumper, I would say this might look better paired with a leather skirt or an a line mini, something with a bit more weight than a satin skirt as the jumper looks quite chunky, do you have anything like that?

Tired00 · 04/11/2023 13:43

Thank you so much!!

rasellagirl · 04/11/2023 14:48

I will look for a leather skirt or heavier weight mini. Thank you

pantsforteaagain · 04/11/2023 15:21

This is such an awesome thread, thank you for your time. I have a very general question. I want to move away from black as it makes me look older, now that I am getting older (57). What colour combos would you recommend? I like the whole neutrals look on other people but it feels so boring when I try it. I've thought about navy but then what happens to all the add-ons? I also seem to end up back with black boots, black coat and black bag and then the navy looks like an accident! I'm struggling to find a core vibe that everything else fits around.

Carepetburns · 04/11/2023 15:29

Hi Can you give me some advice please? I’d like some black boots with a heel but overwhelmed with choice and don’t want to look silly. I’m 46, 5 ft 7 and a size 12. Would like an all rounder boot that works with trousers and dresses if possible? I usually wear flat and clumpy Boots so might fall over if I have pointy heels! Thank you-this is an amazing thread!
