I asked CS about the discount and they said they’ve no idea the marketing people picks the people and it might just be random.
bit peeved as I could have saved £100 on the stuff coming today

Some companies have no loyalty😡

neveradullmoment99 · 16/11/2023 08:10

20% to Kindred would have been nice.

Snowyowl78 · 16/11/2023 08:33

@neveradullmoment99 i know! I actually have spent too much this month what with the sample sale and buying the grid jacket.
has anyone noticed the knitwear smells a bit weird? I sent back the grid brown jacket because it had such a strong smell! I’m getting a new one today.

Can any Toast lovers recommend similar brands / shops? I’m a fan of Toast, Patagonia, Jigsaw, Arket, Me&Em etc. basically quality fabrics, nice / unusual cuts, beautiful but made to last. Want to find some new shops to consider ahead of Christmas and all the shops I used to like seem to be steadily going downhill in terms of quality

All suggestions gratefully received

I like Wrap and Poetry which are similar.

Also there are small makers like Justine Tabak, Roake, Love and Squalor, Faith Rowan Leeves. Most more expensive than Toast (gulp) but hand made usually, and a Toast vibe to the clothing.

MrsRadichio · 16/11/2023 09:22

I also think its annoying the 20% is not given to all or at least to all Kindred. I guess they don't realise Toasties speak to each other :)

OftenOrange · 16/11/2023 09:40

It always irks me when companies offer discount to new customers , there’s a hairdresser near here with a sign in the window offering 20% off for new , if I were a customer , which I’m not , I’d go elsewhere .
@Firesideknitting mentioned using an e mail not linked to her real account, maybe Toast are targeting new subscribers .
I was given 15 % at the Kindred event I mentioned before ,put it to good use buying two coats . Many years ago it was common to be offered 20% at start of a new Season , but that may have been in the Seaton era.
Kindred gifts are also a lovely perk, although apart from the socks not things I use much.

faustina · 16/11/2023 09:53

yes - they did used to give 20% to everyone on their mailing list at the beginning of a season and it was very very nice! A discount for kindred members would be good if they can't manage everyone, though almost all other companies do, don't they? I can't think of anyone who doesn't

faustina · 16/11/2023 09:58

I don't think it's the emails actually (not for me anyway). I have another email signed up for Toast emails which I used on behalf of a very elderly friend who adored Toast. She's too unwell to care about what she wears anymore which is so sad, but I still get the emails and there's never been a code in them either

Trinitybean · 16/11/2023 10:37

The lack of discount was helpful in making my mind up to return an expensive gown. ;-)

Snowyowl78 · 16/11/2023 10:42

I realised I have my other email also registered and also my boyfriends as he entered the comps and neither of them got on. Is bizarre that it’s totally random!

clowniform · 16/11/2023 10:51

Catching up @ToastCosILoveIt belated thanks for info about the Barbour blouse material! Sounds like it will be too thin in the dress version, so I will stalk the blouse.

No code for me either, and I too remember when early-season codes were standard for Kindred @OftenOrange

Adding to list of brands @SealDeal good high street basics can be semi-reliably found at Muji and Uniqlo. If you like the more utilitarian side of Toast, YMC, Folk, Studio Nicholson, J&M Davidson. More wafty/oversized: Oska.
You mentioned Arket but I think COS has overtaken it, especially this year. (Though I may change my tune if they cancel the coat I managed to order in the 3 seconds it was in stock.)

Ive never had one from either Poetry or Wrap - ever.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 16/11/2023 13:12

I purchased this denim wrap pinafore on vinted. I'm struggling to find a good way to tie the belt and there is so much fabric it's really heavy. It's possibly a bit big for me as well, but I do like it, does anyone have this? Think it's at least couple of years old.

Think it’s probably this one

faustina · 16/11/2023 13:44

@neveradullmoment99 - I used to get their catalogues in the post - I'm sure there was a code on them. Might be wrong though!

Noodle421 · 16/11/2023 16:02

@Theteapotsbrokenspout can’t help with the tie question but just thought I’d say it’s a lovely shape on you even if it is a little big.

Noodle421 · 16/11/2023 16:09

@clowniform I love the coat you’ve ordered from COS, really lovely and the lighter colour you were looking for I think. You are good at identifying and securing quick sell out items such as the shorter grey jacket. How do you manage it ? Are you notified whenever a new coat comes online? I usually find my dream item 4 months after it’s been put online and most sizes sold out. Just as well really, too many things on my wish list atm

Noodle421 · 16/11/2023 16:12

Everyone, just to say, keep up with the moth precautions. My friend has found damage to every single piece of woollen Toast clothing she’s pulled out of storage despite putting it in bags etc.

Snowyowl78 · 16/11/2023 16:27

@Noodle421 this is the stuff of nightmares!

Agree

faustina · 16/11/2023 16:33

@Noodle421 - your poor friend! This happened to me once - I think about four bin bags full of never to be worn again things. I have been ruthless ever since, even though it makes my wardrobes smell horrible when I replace the anti- moth stuff

Saurus72 · 16/11/2023 16:38

Horrific moth news, poor her. There is a big reworn restock if anyone wishes to rehome a poor waif and stray. There are some nice things at good prices but nothing for me. I’m quite liking not buying - it makes me feel mentally strong 😊

Noodle421 · 16/11/2023 16:43

I have two friends who had full house moth infestations over the summer months -carpets, clothing etc. Seems to be a lot of activity. I don’t mean to trigger a whole new outpouring of moth chat but just providing a little nudge to remind people to put a good system in place. 4 bin bags @faustina - that’s tragic !!

Snowyowl78 · 16/11/2023 16:56

@Saurus72 ooh thanks for the heads up!

I am trying out the Silk Velvet Tunics in pink and brown. Does anyone have them? They might be too small, size 10’s
