@mizu thanks, ooh also, can you try things on?

mizu · 03/11/2023 14:07

You definitely can.

Snowyowl78 · 03/11/2023 14:13

@mizu im exciting! If a little scared…

mizu · 03/11/2023 15:21

Note to self : wear something loose that can be whipped off and on quickly!

Dee1224 · 03/11/2023 16:39

Just arrived home to find water pouring through the downstairs bathroom ceiling in our ghastly extension due to the torrential rain last night 🥲

DH is absolutely not in the mood to hear me explaining how I can fold time to make a day trip to the SM sample sale a feasible exercise!

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 03/11/2023 17:13

Oh no @Dee1224 is that easily fixable or a major repair job?

Shame about the SM sample sale as well.

Countmeout · 03/11/2023 17:18

That’s awful @Dee1224 . Nothing is worse than water getting in like that. Hope you’re okay.

Thanks @Countmeout and @Theteapotsbrokenspout - it’s raining again now, and the insurers, (I am regretting changing from our good expensive ones now), won’t call back until Monday!

I have also just had to stop my extremely large DH from climbing onto the fragile flat roof with plastic in a gale and torrential rain to attempt a temporary fix - I mean, what could possibly go wrong?

None of our neighbours appear to have a ladder, so I am just praying it stops raining 🤞

In the meantime, I have consolation socks and a whole lot of unnecessary baubles!

It could also - possibly- be worse - I told my friend, who responded that she had come back from holiday to 🐀. I mean, it’s NOT a competition 😹

dudsville · 03/11/2023 17:51

I admire you're in good spirits over that @Dee1224 , hope you can fold time to get to Monday sooner.

Dee1224 · 03/11/2023 17:54

Thanks @dudsville . Will post my socks and bauble purchase pics when I am feeling stronger😹

Laska2Meryls · 03/11/2023 18:09

Oh no @Dee1224 I hope that its not going to be too expensive.. and you can get a quick repair...

Dee1224 · 03/11/2023 18:10

Thanks @Laska2Meryls

mizu · 03/11/2023 18:22

@Dee1224 sorry to hear about the ceiling, things like that can be miserable ....... the baubles though Grin

Dee1224 · 03/11/2023 18:28

Just hoping it stops raining @mizu !

Oh no, that sounds awful! (I think your friend might just have the edge in the misery-loves-company stakes. I am absolutely phobic when it comes to 🐀: I would have had to burn my own house down, hang the insurance.) Seriously, I hope you can get it sorted quickly and tell your hubby not to be so silly (unless he has good life insurance 😉).

Dee1224 · 03/11/2023 19:02

Thanks @BrontëParsonage - I am just grateful I caught him with one leg out the bedroom window in time to politely enquire what the heck he thought he was doing😹

Yes 🐀- my friend has won🤢

Laska2Meryls · 03/11/2023 19:25

My old cat ( sadly no more) was always bring mice in .. once when I was exhausted, struggling to submit an essay for my MA at around midnight the day before it was due.. he decided to come in to the room I was working in, deposited a live mouse at my feet as a 'never mind, I still love you' gift , ( and it promptly ran behind the bookcase ) then sauntered out to the kitchen to demand a late dinner ! .. Thanks a bunch, Puss. ..
I thought 'sod it' ,..quickly pressed 'send' on the essay.. found a humane trap baited it ( peanut butter is the thing) shut it in then went to bed.. Luckily in the morning the mouse was in the box and I could take it out to the garden again..

Laska2Meryls · 03/11/2023 19:27

Some years ago but I still miss that cat .. he was a real character...

Dee1224 · 03/11/2023 19:34

Quick thinking @Laska2Meryls - I would have just run the opposite way howling!

Countmeout · 03/11/2023 19:45

Is that a mouse or a rat? @Dee1224 . I think your flood is worse than a mouse .

I think I have the reincarnation of your cat @Laska2Meryls . He’s a great one for catching mice. Slipped in with a live one the other day via the front door. The mouse ran into to downstairs toilet. Put cat in with it but of course he couldn’t get it. I caught it myself with a plastic tub.

Catching up with thread.

Sorry to hear about roof @Dee1224 ! And that @ScottishMouse is having a bad time of it. Very interesting discussion about emotions of shopping.

I've been in UK so made an order of various things to try without the massive international mark up.

The Lofty Alpaca Blend Cardigan in mint went back. Beautiful but too short on me. Also the Polka Stripe Ikat Dress which is utterly gorgeous but for narrower shoulders/smaller bust. And the Freya Stripe Crinkle Cotton Dress. Fabric a bit thin and crispy this year. Not as lovely as previous years. Trying to be really careful only to buy stuff I actually love.

But kept Polka Stripe Ikat Fisherman Trousers which are fab and a nice slightly slimmer silhouette than some recent trousers in this style. And the Cotton Wool Herringbone Pull On Trousers which annoyingly perfect given the price. And Wool Cashmere Mariner Sweater in pecan which is excellent toast standard. Also a beautiful advent calendar and some Christmas cards which happen to have my dog on.

Also tried on a few things in a shop, which confirmed I didn't want them. Green tweed coat needs narrow shoulders. Silk tops look like have gone yellow in cupboard. Cashmere roll neck too long and floppy.

Love the fancy winter party dresses but mystified by amount of skin which would be on show. Brrrr.

Dee1224 · 03/11/2023 20:29

My friend says a rat @Countmeout but the jury is out!

Thanks @lordloveadog - a neighbour is lending us a ladder tomorrow so hopefully we can put something over the area that’s leaking.

Here’s what I bought at SM today.

The last two are my sister’s. I wish I had bought a paper chain too, but I think I will survive!

faustina · 03/11/2023 20:29

oh no @Dee1224 ! I do hope it stops raining and that the insurance gets it fixed soon. I suppose since you say it's not a very nice extension, could you look at it as nature telling you you deserve a new one paid for by the insurance? You will need a pretty ceiling for the new Christmas decorations!

Dee1224 · 03/11/2023 20:32

Thanks @faustina.That would be lovely! Unfortunately I suspect the insurance will tell us it’s our fault for not doing something sooner - always hard to know whether to try to make a claim or not🤷‍♀️

I am just admiring my baubles and will wear the socks tomorrow!

Dee1224 · 03/11/2023 20:37

Btw: Those baubles and paper chains, etc. were flying off the shelves today. At 9.30 there was an overflowing basket of baubles, but there was a lot of interest and they were being snapped up.

They also had the silver metal baubles for £22. I got some of those at the charity pop up last year and they are lovely. They had the flower garlands with bells - various patterns £12-13, the diy paper chains and the leaf garlands: £9 and a bit of wrapping paper.
