...is the new laughing at salad.

Why do all fashion bloggers insist on postures that express, "sorry for existiiiiing! Aren't I the cutest doormat you've ever seen?"

My Pinterest feed is full of these women.

Awkward poses have been around for decades. It’s like no one know one knows what to do with feet and hands.

But at least these women don't look like they're apologising for taking up space.

True!

CarPour · 10/10/2023 22:55

These are not new though? This pose is very tumblr 2010. It's to highlight their thigh gap

RaisinsOfMildAnnoyance · 10/10/2023 23:03

They remind me of Seventeen magazine in the mid-90s. As an aside, are we back in the grunge era?

Puffypuffin · 10/10/2023 23:04

I can't bear these twee 'lickle ol' me' type of poses they're just embarrassing.

NashEnquirer · 10/10/2023 23:11

Classic Manic Pixie Dreamgirl shit!! (Although that in itself is a problematic phrase with some misogynistic baggage, but quite useful as a denominator.)

Gowlett · 10/10/2023 23:15

Laughing at salad. Heh!

Moonlamp · 10/10/2023 23:19

I think we need to popularise a 'Being annoyed by burnt toast whilst wearing Boden' pose.

Bootsandbooks · 10/10/2023 23:20

It’s very Alexa Chung inspired

Moonlamp · 10/10/2023 23:21

Or a 'Staring in an aggravated manner at a poorly made cup of tea, whilst wearing Zara' pose.

And, one for my mum-

'Being thoroughly enthralled by Judge Judy, enrobed entirely in Edinburgh Woolen Mill' pose Grin

GreenTuraco · 10/10/2023 23:23

Very funny thread 😄

CharlotteRumpling · 10/10/2023 23:25

I am so ready for women to look powerful and confident in clothing ads rather than mopey and droopy. As it is, the only happy, confident looking "women" seem to be those in the Snag ads, who are men in tights.

MsRosley · 10/10/2023 23:25

Orangetattoo · 10/10/2023 21:57

😂i do agree OP, but what pose would you have them do?

Looking like normal human beings, maybe?

This is a great thread. Thank you, especially for the "vulnerable sleeves"

It's possible my parents picked the phrase up from a newspaper columnist or similar… wherever it's from, I now can't think anything else when I see it.

Yes. I was wondering why the OP was using photos from a decade ago too.

I haven't seen ye olde pigeon toe pose in a few years now.

Maybe the thread was written in 2012 and has been buffering in the ether for the past 11 years.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 10/10/2023 23:29

Thank you. I needed cheering up.

TheLeadbetterLife · 10/10/2023 23:35

I'm sorry to the pp who find my Pinterest feed soo outmoded. Nothing more embarrassing than a dated algorithm.

I feel like a Jane Austen country cousin in a Belgravia drawing room.

I really wish it were possible to respond to individual posts with a quick like - some of them make me feel seen 😍🙌

CharlotteRumpling · 10/10/2023 23:39

Eh, I definitely know what the OP means and have seen the pigeon toe pose, or the hunched over " I have got a pain in my tummy pose" post 2010.

I also search a lot for 80s fashion images, and the women in those are fucking fantastic. Mistresses of the universe.

I used to deliberately walk pigeon toed in the 80’s. I must have copied it from somewhere.

Although l was a Goth at the timeGrin

WetBandits · 10/10/2023 23:44

It’s the ‘look at each other and pretend someone just told a joke’ photos for me. Bonus points if it’s a bridal party.

My retired parents have started referring to over-long sleeves on actresses in adverts and dramas as "vulnerable sleeves", because they seem to be used to signify that childlike retreat into comfort and being a tiny delicate fragile woman of the kind who needs to hold her cocoa with both hands. I can't think of those sleeves any other way now.

I love this & it’s so accurate

SkinnyMalinkyLankyLegs · 10/10/2023 23:52

It's the oh so fake photo of friends looking at each other with heads thrown back in laughter than everyone seems to he posting at the moment that irritates me! It's so fake and posed!

I can’t bear it! The photographer suggested it as a pose at my best friend’s wedding and was met with 😐 from our whole bridal party, hahahaaha
