Standing pigeon-toed, looking at the ground while lightly touching your hair...

...is the new laughing at salad.

Why do all fashion bloggers insist on postures that express, "sorry for existiiiiing! Aren't I the cutest doormat you've ever seen?"

My Pinterest feed is full of these women.

These are the type I have an irrational hatred for. Hands posed so delicately and pointlessly.

It's unsurprising that they have to stare at the ground when they're walking like this. I bet they hit lampposts all the time though.

They look as though they've had too liquid a lunch to me.

MissingMoominMamma · 10/10/2023 19:49

I walked like that for most of my life. I had to look down because I was forever tripping over my own feet.

A double hip replacement sorted it.

These are photoshopped very badly

But of course, how else would you know it's Amazon Grin

AnneWhittle · 10/10/2023 20:35

OP you are absolutely right and it does indeed say a lot about women's position in society, including the fact as you say that many women infantilise themselves with all kinds of nonsense that you never see men do. The fact that we hardly notice it speaks volumes too.

Greeksummer · 10/10/2023 20:50

I’m not sure what Lookbook (I was obsessed with this site) pictures from the late 00s/early 10s says about women or society in 2023.

AzureBlue99 · 10/10/2023 21:13

They pose a lot of female models to look like victims as well. It's depressing. Goldie Hawn, renowned for being zany and kooky, held on to that kookiness far into old age. Only recently does she seemed to have stopped. She's not kooky, she's a sharp cookie and it is sad she clung onto that cutesy little girl schtick.

Bemyclementine · 10/10/2023 21:38

What are their feet doing???

AnyFucker · 10/10/2023 21:51

Some of them look like they just stepped in doggy doo doo

CountryStore · 10/10/2023 21:53

This one looks like the moment just before her ankle bones were snapped against the kerb 🤮

Made me laugh! Thank you as feeling rather mizog generally

Orangetattoo · 10/10/2023 21:57

😂i do agree OP, but what pose would you have them do?

I give you the Silkfred 'posing with phone with one leg stuck out' pose and 'posing with phone while desperately needing a pee' pose

https://www.silkfred.com/womens/clothing/dresses/midi-dresses/feverfish/exclusive-bardot-off-shoulder-frill-midi-dress-dark-green

Oh that's so awful.

NotSuchASmugMarried · 10/10/2023 22:06

This thread is hilarious. I love the laughing at salad pictures. Now, whenever I eat a salad, I'm gonna take a selfie like that.

GeorgeTheFirst · 10/10/2023 22:11

At least they have their mouths closed. We've had YEARS of slightly open mouths (women only, not men ofc 🙄)

That is irritating 😂

mdinbc · 10/10/2023 22:22

I follow a fashion insta with a middle aged woman, but she often has an exaggerated one foot forward pose. It drives me mad, but I would never say a negative comment on a post.

thelengthspeoplegoto · 10/10/2023 22:26

Uugh the in turned toes. Awful.

NothankyouNigel · 10/10/2023 22:26

I couldn’t believe the ridiculous inane backward C shaped poses in the Me+Em catalogue. Came across a perfect example of OP’s description tho.
( bought a friend a scarf or socks or something as a present last year and now get the catalogue). The prices!! 😮

Victoria Beckham's pose always gets to me. I don't have to attach a picture or describe it, because it's always the same. (The pose AND the utterly enormous sunglasses.) Why, Victoria?? Does your hip hurt?? Is one leg really 12" longer than the other?

CinnamonJellyBeans · 10/10/2023 22:35

This is a great thread. Thank you, especially for the "vulnerable sleeves"

So many weird legs!

For balance, here are some of my favourite Pinterest women.

Awkward poses have been around for decades. It’s like no one know one knows what to do with feet and hands.
