En brogue -- a flat shoe thread

Can we chat flats please? All shoes, not just brogues, but not trainers. Flatforms entertained. Block heels, say up to 1" max.

I'm wearing these R&B loafers today in the murky green shade. (With ankle-length tapered leg jeans, white tee and a cropped chore jacket.) It's still warm enough for bare ankles here but have already tried them with all the socks and eagerly anticipating cooler weather 😀

Latest acquisition: these Bobbies though they're still at the cobblers awaiting rubber soles. (Apparently with the return of ballet pumps the demand for this has soared so who knows when they'll be ready 😑)

Contemplating: some higher vamp styles from Aeyde (Moa or Betty). Anyone know what their sizing is like?

I've just ordered these Brogues
I have some pointed toe flats in a similar nude colour that I wear loads - it's a pretty versatile colour.
Love yours OP.

CharlotteRumpling · 03/10/2023 20:43

I love those brogues @EllaPaella. I might go for the silver.

clowniform · 03/10/2023 21:49

Brogues look great, @EllaPaella and totally agree with the usefulness of the shade -- I have Stan Smiths in that rosy nude too.

@CharlotteRumpling I'm also after silver shoes this year (easily influenced!) Maybe these MJ pumps

Love this thread. Love flat shoes! I've got too many pairs of brogues, but those silver ones are lovely @EllaPaella. Really love the green loafers too @clowniform. A bit out of my budget range, but I'd love to find a slightly chunkier pair in a similar colour as I don't have any loafers...

declutteringmymind · 03/10/2023 22:09

Love those OP

I've ordered these from flattered:

@Flockameanie
R&B does chunkier ones but even pricier, alas.
Sam Edelman has these, possibly too chunky? A bit more different square toed ones at M&S though sold out in most sizes right now. Carvela and Clarks often do comfy chunky loafers, sadly no green so far.

Those are soooo lovely! How are you styling them? Flattered shoes are so comfy.

I'm not sure how to style them yet - it's going to be weather decent I think.

Perhaps with anything midi?

eyeslikebutterflies · 04/10/2023 09:04

OP, I think I love you - never heard of Bobbies but those pointed flats you linked to are literally what I've spent the past month looking for! Thank you :)

Also love the R&B but will have to save up and up for them (tho I know they'll last forever so that's some consolation).

I love those. I had some amazing silver brogues from La Redoute a few years ago that I wore to death, I could kick myself for not buying two pairs and hoarding one forever.

clowniform · 04/10/2023 09:52

@declutteringmymind Asking because it's been so many years since I've had flat ballet pumps I've forgotten how to style them😅Probably should figure this out before buying any more.

@eyeslikebutterflies aren't they just the perfect shape?! I went in to try some chunky loafers and came home with those instead! Soft despite the shininess too.
R&B really do last. Despite the thread title I'm not in need of brogues since my 10 y.o. R&B ones are still perfect despite annual service!

This is my kind of thread. (Also I loved the En Brogue blog - still follow and love Hannah’s work since she’s broadened out from just shoes but that blog was great.)

Those Bobbies pointed flats are lovely - I hadn’t heard of them before, thank you.

Plantar fasciitis limits my footwear at the moment. Birkenstock boots are good though. And I have silver Birkenstock trainers (sorry trainers) but the silver scuffs really easily.

Grenson thick soled colourful brogues also ok - I have a pair in neon pink and a pair in gold!

Fruitloopcowabunga · 04/10/2023 12:56

I am in desperate NEED of some coloured brogues - red preferably, maybe a nice mid blue or sage green. Seasalt used to do lovedly colours inc duck egg blue but have gone all murky of late. And leather, not suede because of, you know, rain.

Ooh I LOVE the Bobbies! Never heard of them so many thanks for the introduction. Will adding rubber soles really make them last? I’m always hesitant to spend a lot on ballet pumps as they don’t last.

I received these Fitflop Allegro flats in a Stitch Fix box and love them. They’re so comfy and don’t give me shooting pains in my feet from being so flat.

At the 'stumble across a magical pot of gold' end of the budget, Joseph Cheaney have a gorgeous selection of flat shoes for women.

Fourmagpies · 04/10/2023 17:25

I've got my eye on these at the moment. I can't decide if they are a little too chunky, but I love the colour.

Lentilweaver · 04/10/2023 18:29

Those last two are beautiful colours, though the JL one would be a bit too chunky for me.

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 04/10/2023 19:20

You poor thing, @Jace12 - hope proper labour starts soon and you get an epidural, so that you can chill out and read S&B threads 😉

I'm not sure how much adding rubber soles at the beginning extends the life of shoes vs just resoling as needing anyway, but I just hate the feel of leather soles and find them wildly impractical for rainy UK streets. I'm hoping the sturdier leather main on these (compared to my noughties Repettos) will make them more durable anyway.
