En brogue -- a flat shoe thread

Can we chat flats please? All shoes, not just brogues, but not trainers. Flatforms entertained. Block heels, say up to 1" max.

I'm wearing these R&B loafers today in the murky green shade. (With ankle-length tapered leg jeans, white tee and a cropped chore jacket.) It's still warm enough for bare ankles here but have already tried them with all the socks and eagerly anticipating cooler weather 😀

Latest acquisition: these Bobbies though they're still at the cobblers awaiting rubber soles. (Apparently with the return of ballet pumps the demand for this has soared so who knows when they'll be ready 😑)

Contemplating: some higher vamp styles from Aeyde (Moa or Betty). Anyone know what their sizing is like?

@Stravaig I hope that pot is big enough to pay for breaking-in services, like wot the queen used to have.

@Chronicallymothering and @Fourmagpies although quite different from each other I absolutely love both your choices! Slightly regretting starting this thread now.

I recently got rubber protectors added to a pair with leather soles. I'd only worn them three times before that and already the soles looked like they'd been through a bit - not worn down, but because of the dirt on pavements. Also, one of the three times when I walked in from the rain into a building, I felt on one shoe a little sliding movement and insufficient grip. I much prefer rubber soles and feel much more secure on them.

These are my new shoes (bought in June, but only now worn in September): https://uk.velasca.com/products/orlogee-bes#product-block (men's, technically).

I like Derbies, but not brogues specifically - I don't like the perforated detailing on brogues.

I'm in love with embassy London brogues!

Those are very cool shoes, what are you wearing them with? And what is the sizing like relative to average women's, please?

Colourful brogue lovers, what do you (plan to) wear them with? Some of these look amazing, and from brands I've never encountered.

I wear them with work dresses. As they are colourful they go with most dresses. Well good enough for me.

Stravaig · 04/10/2023 20:37

@OhBeAFineGuyKissMe Oh my, those are spectacular!

Cleethorpes · 04/10/2023 20:38

I've just bought a pair of Boden loafers. They come up quite big, so they fit with socks, but not with tights.

I'm torn between a vision of HRH conspiring to burgle her shoes, and wondering why Cheaney especially should be tough to wear ...

clowniform · 04/10/2023 21:06

@Stravaig Oh god that was terribly inarticulate of me! Do you not find Cheaney's leather cuts into heels like freshly sharpened knives on the stiff side? I'm sure it is a signifier of Heritage, Quality, Longevity etc. hence my royal association. Apparently QE2 had one of her ladies-in-waiting break in all her new shoes before deigning to wear them.

@OhBeAFineGuyKissMe but what are work dresses for you? Crawley Studio smock, trendy Rixo midi, tailored Hobbs sheath... it's S&B, more details please!

@RosyDawn I had no idea Hannah R. was still active. The thread title is of course entirely credit to her. How I miss that era of style blogs!

@clowniform That makes sense! They're certainly comfy hanging out on my wishlist this past decade or more 🤣

Jace12 · 04/10/2023 21:48

Hahaha it was my first ever post and I have clearly posted on the wrong thing and I don’t know to remove it so sorry 😂😂

Crucible · 04/10/2023 21:49

En Brogue is a brilliant style blog and the only one I go back to, apart from Anya's reviews which is about barefoot shoes.

Magpiecomplex · 04/10/2023 19:59

https://sargassoandgrey.com/collections/new-arrivals/products/sandy-wide-fit-flats-black-leather are going to be my next purchase once I can stop wincing at the price!

Ooh I love these and the amount of foot they cover! Struggle with brogues as I have very slim ankles and these would be a perfect alternative.

Polkadotsaplenty · 04/10/2023 22:04

Drooling here. Desperate for new shoes and loving all these.

TooTiredToType77 · 04/10/2023 22:25

OK. Forgive me if this has been asked many many times but...what socks do you wear with brogues and loafers? Or do you put bare feet, straight from slippers, into cold leather shoes and then go out with bare ankles? I love the look of brogues and loafers but need to know the secret to not having cold feet!

TheJackal · 04/10/2023 22:54

Ooh those Bobbies are absolutely gorgeous, gorgeous colour, shape and style - the holy trinity! I was trying not to spend any more on shoes after a huge spurge this summer, but like another PP I've been looking for shoes like the Bobbies.

I was also coming on to link to Embassy brogues but I see @LoserWinner beat me to it! Not surprising, Embassy brogues are the business. I have two years from many years ago, both always get compliments and they are very comfortable. Great quality.

bemorebernard · 04/10/2023 22:58

I might just have to get these for me for Xmas to me

bemorebernard · 04/10/2023 22:59

These even !

This is a dangerous thread for me! Beautiful flat shoes is one of my favourite topics!
Have been on the search for my perfect loafers, halfway to keeping some burgundy dm adrian even though I already have black, but really was originally looking for something a little more refined, but on a basic budget!
I love how high up the foot the Adrian's come, like wearing lace ups but not. Some loafers are low at the front and about as comfortable as ballet flats because I have to work to stop them flipping off my heel.
My ultimate is the prada silver badge loafers (not the super chunky ones) they're almost 60s and really timeless but a bit different to a penny loafer. Pity I don't have the budget!

AngryBirdsNoMore · 04/10/2023 23:17

Has anyone tried Vivaia’s flat shoes?
