Lol the other tartan skirts I have just did not start out as blankets :)

I am more worried that the fact that the mohair is brushed would make it look really awful in a short time

True, if I wore a brushed mohair skirt it would just be a vehicle for gathering up bits of nature. However I accept most women are more refined than I am, so it may not be a general problem :D

OftenOrange · 29/09/2023 14:36

@BettinaInDenmark I love hearing about these special Toast pieces that transcend time , our coat is really wonderful. Mohair is so special and the colours are beautiful.
Make the skirt !

OftenOrange · 29/09/2023 14:41

@Countmeout Great shoes , look forward to hearing how you find them size and comfort wise.
I also struggle with wearing leather shoes when much walking is involved now, but could be tempted by these !

MiracleToast · 29/09/2023 14:47

Speaking of sizing—does anyone have the tretorn terrang winter boots? Most of the reviews are saying to size down. Any advice would be very welcome 🙏

ScottishMouse · 29/09/2023 14:51

I have them @MiracleToast and I would agree to size down. I am a 5.5, I have a 5 and they are still quite big. I can fit a couple of pairs of socks inside them comfortably. They are great though, and the cosiest wellies I have ever had.

MiracleToast · 29/09/2023 15:04

@ScottishMouse this is excellent information, thank you mouse. I so wanted them last year but missed out, so very happy to see them back in stock. I also like the colourway they have in the men's section.

PretLea · 29/09/2023 15:16

@MiracleToast I have the wellies too. I’m a UK5 but bought a UK4, and still have space for a pair of cosy socks.

Saurus72 · 29/09/2023 15:19

I popped into the Mayfair store earlier to try this new dress. I really liked the fabric and design. The size 14 was OK (RL 14), but the top has weird pouchy bits above the waist, below the bust and also at the back. It was quite hard to capture it. Not sure if I’m this case this dress would be better with a much flatter chest, perhaps it would fall better. It might also be better on a taller person.

No problem @MiracleToast , hope they work out for you.

MiracleToast · 29/09/2023 15:33

That is unanimous then @PretLeaI shall go with the smaller size. Thanks @ScottishMouse

faustina · 29/09/2023 15:47

Really like that dress @Saurus72 - also your nail colour!

I'm off to look at the Tretorns as you've reminded me I was after a pair last year too

@Countmeout - what's giving you Vinted anxiety? I hope it turns out ok. I've just ordered something from there (Margaret Howell top) and it's been three days and she hasn't posted it

Countmeout · 29/09/2023 16:21

I love that coat @BettinaInDenmark .

@OftenOrange im not sure how I’ll get on with the round toe but will have to see. Due Monday per tracking.

It’s a lovely dress @Saurus72 but sounds as if it might fit a longer body better. I wonder if another the same size would fit any differently.

@faustina . Buyer allegedly posted Royal Mail but tracking didn’t work and a couple of other things rang alarm bells. A bit of poking about the internet revealed
, according to Reddit, it is a well know scam and thankfully Vinted have refunded relatively quickly.

faustina · 29/09/2023 16:38

@Countmeout - that's a shame. So annoying!

Stoic123 · 29/09/2023 16:55

@Countmeout - glad it is sorted,.

I've had ok experiences on Vinted/eBay but getting tired of reselling things that don't fit/suit so need to start cutting back.

I've just bought a Boden velvet coat (very old version) on eBay on a whim- I used used to own a similar one. I've been re-reading the Jilly Cooper bonkbusters which has been making me feel nostalgic.

Stravaig · 29/09/2023 17:11

I've been washing a blanket today, and just caught myself thinking scissor-y thoughts as I hung it to dry. I have apologised, and blamed this thread.

Boden velvet coat - I had one in a dark lime green that I loved for years. When some of the velvet pilled and it started looking a bit worn, I thew it. Have regretted that several times since.

Got another one in turquoise that is - I think - a year's later model. Not nearly as nice. Bought it as a size 20 when I should have had a size 22. Sheer stupidity! Maybe I can wear it this autumn, as I have since lost some weight.

Oh, I just remembered my fave Toast autumn coat - checked like the winter one, but a year or so earlier. Cotton Linen in Navy/Cobalt Green. Hmm seems like I do the same colours all over again and again. Any of you remember it? I think it was from back in 2015. The last thing I bought from Toast that was actually delivered in a cotton suit dust bag (don't know what you call such one in English).

Oh, this was a freaky trip down coat-memory lane...

The blanket just asked you to be turned into a skirt...

I love old Miss Marple series. There is a season where she is wearing a checked cape/coat, buttoned down the front. I was thinking that would maybe be a contender for my extra mohair blanket...

Alpacasoft · 29/09/2023 17:25

Gosh thread moves so fast !
Jumping straight in as I can't keep up.
The check dress arrived and its only slightly larger in a medium but a much better fit.
The front seam pictured previously runs down the sides of my bust but no wierd pouch effect.
I love this fabric but it has gone back.
It's really very nice but sale price nice not £165 nice.

I love the new alpaca jumper but the price is insane.
Also the wrap cardigan is lovely.
I think it's the same melange as the wool/ cashmere jumper that I have ( the one that was grey on the website) so that rules it out.

@Countmeout I don't really understand what they get out of this scam as they don't get the money until you state you have received the parcel and everything is OK
I have stopped sending RM , tracked only.
Is there a loophole?

I had a lime green one too - and the one I've bought is turquoise and not quite so nice (shorter). I am looking forward to wearing it.

Snowyowl78 · 29/09/2023 17:41

@Countmeout @Alpacasoft i read about scams too and apparently you have only 2 days to confirm ‘everything is ok’ and then they get the money regardless. So it’s dependant on people not responding in time or being away etc, if you do it enough times you’ll get some reward. There are loads of fake listings at the moment, you can spot them by weird pricing- eg. £51.75, then no reviews and a weird username like Kkkddgooodur, etc. I have been reporting them but there are so many!

Snowyowl78 · 29/09/2023 17:43

Here’s two!

Countmeout · 29/09/2023 18:25

Yes scammers are apparently counting on people clicking all ok by accident or something.
Thank goodness I noticed the tracking was all wrong. Going to try to avoid Vinted for a while.

MiracleToast · 29/09/2023 18:32

I've just started selling on vinted and it certainly causes lots of anxiety! I have to use royal mail as I'm so rural but always send signed for. Thankfully I've had no problems thus far other than people being slow to complete. Sad to hear there's been bad experiences and scams.

dudsville · 29/09/2023 20:32

That's a nice dress@Saurus72 and i can see what you mean, but it's not visible from the front, and how often do you stand like that?

I LOVE that rationale for a purchase @Stoic123 !

@BettinaInDenmark i hope you do get to wear your coat. My first great coat purchase was a tweed with a fabulously quirky shape. I outgrew it years ago but only parted with it last month. I'm still in mourning.

I'm still scared of buying stuff via vinted or any second hand thing. Even though my experience has been good it's worrying, and i don't sell on, so if it doesn't fit then friends/family/charity get it.

I've enjoyed reading this thread. It's v fast paced and I've been extremely slow - I learned this week that my extreme lethargy was a kidney problem resulting from a statin, so I'm hoping to get my energy back soon!

OftenOrange · 29/09/2023 20:57

@dudsville Hope you get back to full health very soon ,your conversations are far from lethargic !

My black velvet Boden coat has escaped cull , I haven’t worn it for years but it will definitely have a second Spring when silhouettes slim down .
