I’ve never been quite at mute how to do that @Theteapotsbrokenspout, can you tell me?

Dee1224 · 20/10/2023 18:06

Congratulations @ToastCosILoveIt !

Stoic123 · 20/10/2023 18:06

@ScottishMouse - I've sold a lot on the FB site and always price less than eBay. Items seem to either go really quickly on FB (within hours) or won't shift unless a price drop - whereas eBay ('Buy it Now') can just be a question of waiting till someone spots it.

I tend to list on FB first and then eBay a day or two later. As I only use eBay if 80% off sellers fees, FB Paypal fees are more than eBay fees. FB site advantage is a very responsive market if demand is there.

It's 80% off sellers fees on eBay at the moment -why don't you try listing there at your current price to see if anyone bites?

Dee1224 · 20/10/2023 18:10

I am trying to convince myself that if I go away for a few days in the week or so, that there are other places available that don’t involve going via Shepton Mallet…

Re: EBay and Buy it Now - I have only just realised that buyers making an offer nowadays have to input CCor PP details and, apparently, EBay hold the money as pending. Not a problem if the seller accepts the offer, but potentially so if not. I am wondering if that’s why none of my stuff is shifting!

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 20/10/2023 18:18

@ScottishMouse I think you just go in to your listing and add 'Still available' (or some such thing) to your description, which should put it back at the top.

Or maybe go with @Stoic123 suggestion and list on eBay.

Stoic123 · 20/10/2023 18:21

@Dee1224 - I disable 'Make an Offer' functionality. I have had a couple of folks message to ask if I would do an offer to them and eBay allows you to send them one. Longest I've waited between listing and sale is 2 weeks but I do get impatient quickly and start dropping prices after a week.

Stoic123 · 20/10/2023 18:23

The other nice thing about the FB site is that I do get to see some of you lovely people sharing pictures of my clothes after you've bought them 🥰

Dee1224 · 20/10/2023 18:24

Thanks @Stoic123 - now I know that’s going on, I will alter my listings! I didn’t realise you had to ‘pay’ in advance when making an offer until I tried to make an offer myself the other day🙃

ScottishMouse · 20/10/2023 18:27

Thanks for the eBay & fb chat everyone. I have already put the items on eBay, but have never managed to get my act together to wait for the seller offers so have priced higher there in order to cover fees and have offers open. I’m not a selling whizz at all, I’ve never invested the time in trying to figure it out properly.

Stoic123 · 20/10/2023 18:31

@ScottishMouse - if you have a seller offer, I think you can just delist your items, activate the offer and then relist. You could then reduce the price by the difference in fees?

ScottishMouse · 20/10/2023 18:34

Sorry @Stoic123 , I have no idea what this means!! I will have a look later tonight. I have just bumped them on the fb page for now. If anyone wants to take a look 😉

mizu · 20/10/2023 18:51

@ScottishMouse I will def take a look later but am not on Facebook so waiting for DD1 to get back to me to give me her log in info Grin

faustina · 20/10/2023 19:35

If something I've listed doesn't sell on the FB page after a couple of days, I always list it on Ebay so it's in two different places. Have to remember to make it as sold on FB if it does though (suddenly remembered I have one more to do!)

I watched a bit of the styling thing - the donegal jumpers looked lovely on her didn't they? They hung really nicely. I think she said in the past that she always sizes up which might be why. Haven't go to the coat yet so I will go and finish watching

I wore my blundstone lug boots in the absolute pouring rain today and they were wonderful - like bouncing along on little clouds!

ToastCosILoveIt · 20/10/2023 19:50

When I was in Toast Hampstead a very stylish woman of around my age came in and was clearly making a beeline for the donegal easy sweater in cinnamon. There was another similar folded one on a counter and the assistant pointed out that it was a men’s Donegal knit. I have had a look and it is the men’s Donegal roll neck in copper.

I wish my DH would wear jumpers but he won’t: too hot for him and he hates a high neck too. I think men in a good pair of trousers, a fabulous knit and some chunky boots look great. DH has all of the other elements but not the jumper. I have managed to get him into a few cardigans though which I also think is a good look (I know cardigans on men divide opinion).

Re the facebook page selling, there are a few elements to it I think. I have sold loads on there but i have purposely priced to sell and shift things and most of my stuff has gone within the hour, certainly the day. Before that my charity shop benefitted from a few choice bits of Toast. A couple of things I did list at a slightly higher price but they were things that I knew were coveted and would go quickly (and they did).

I had to put a couple of bits on to Vinted when they didn’t sell and with one of them (a black denim pinafore) I had to reduce the price.

it can be difficult with selling and how to pitch the price. If you love something or paid a lot for it, it can be hard to let it go for a lower price but there are some things that aren’t going to get the price you want or you think they deserve. I also think that sometimes photos don’t do justice to the piece. I know I have listed fab things but the photo has made them look fairly lack lustre.

There is a huge element of luck in this selling thing: you only need one person who wants to buy it….

I think she has a small bust @faustina which helps the hang of sweaters. Mine gets in the way. I thought it was interesting his she showed how you could wear the cape/poncho thing under a coat. And I liked the hood/snood , it seemed very wearable being so loose.

Sounds like a lovely shopping day @ToastCosILoveIt . There was a lady buying Sturlini loafers when I was in a shop on my annual trip last year. They looked so nice. Great shoes.

ToastCosILoveIt · 20/10/2023 20:00

@faustina , loving your description of your blundstone boots! I have some and agree, they are fab.

The thing that stood out with the Sturlini boots (the ones that I didn’t buy) is that the leather was buttery soft and and with an expensive sheen and the zip meant they were more slender at the ankle. So, they are chunky but at the same time elegant: hard to describe but I can see me going back for them at some point as they are a definite investment piece and ones to wear for a stylish day around town rather than cross country.

It is down to luck sometimes. When I was selling on Ebay exclusively, I once had a jumper listed which was sitting there with no offers, then someone came along and bought it at full price for her sister - she was so pleased as it had been her sister's favourite jumper, but her puppy had eaten it!

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 20/10/2023 20:26

I have just sorted out my boots to see if I can justify a pair of Blundstones. Apparently I have 10 pairs of boots plus 3 pairs of wellies Blush , and I’ve just ordered some more muck boots (I put my fork through my pair this week).

Probably shouldn’t buy any more then.

faustina · 20/10/2023 20:32

@Theteapotsbrokenspout - always room for one more pair of boots! If you do though, be warned they are HUGE. I had to buy a size 5 and I usually order a 6

Noodle421 · 20/10/2023 20:35

@Countmeout thank you for humouring me with the side shots. They really are lovely.

@ToastCosILoveIt What a great haul, very stylish and congratulations on your new job. I’ve been eyeing up the Sturlini tasselled loafers online. So far they’ve only got two reviews when I last looked and I’ve not seen them in my local shop (but I haven’t been in for a few weeks, so they may be stocking them now). Are they very beautiful and are they true to size? I have a high instep and I’m worried my heel will slip out when I walk. I have the lug boots in chocolate brown and I highly recommend. Very comfortable and cosy. I’ve worn them only with slightly cropped jeans (Ashley), so I don’t know how they will work with dresses and skirts. I have the current denim skirt and I’m hoping they will look good with that but it will depend how the proportions work as to whether I like the combination. Sometimes ankle boots and skirts have the effect of shortening my legs. Any feedback most welcome.

Trinitybean · 20/10/2023 21:08

also haven't had much luck selling the FB page but prob cause I don't want to sell too cheap as almost new and still less than sale prices and sold out, weird.

OftenOrange · 20/10/2023 21:09

@ToastCosILoveIt A new job is always challenging and I can’t think of a more sensible thing than prepping the wardrobe, your items are all gorgeous and some are now on my wish list.
The ankle boot /skirt relationship is quite tricky I find . I can’t define what makes some things work and others not . I’ve recently embraced the ankle boot with ankle socks option and find that makes a différence in a Toast way .
I saw a girl wearing black chunky knee boots with a mini and felt very jealous., it’s my favourite look of all time.
