@Countmeout oooh, they look great. Really cool with your trousers. I love MJ’s but didn’t like these on the Toast models. They look far better on you.

PretLea · 20/10/2023 12:47

@Countmeout those look so good on!

Noodle421 · 20/10/2023 12:49

@Countmeout please do you mind taking a side shot of them but only if you can be bothered/have the time ? I like them with your trousers and top. They really suit you. Tbh - I wanted chunky MJ’s but chose the lace ups instead. Perhaps I should’ve tried these before making up my mind but then I love the lace-ups too so will remain content with my decision and will try not to hanker after this pair too

Noodle421 · 20/10/2023 12:58

I think this has been said before but I’m coming to the conclusion that I often prefer Toast clothing in real life rather than on the models. I would never have chosen the summer Reed blouse if I hadn’t seen it in the shop. Sorry @faustina to hear about your treatment in the Cambridge store. Perhaps I’ve been fortunate on the days I’ve popped in but I’ve had nothing but great experiences with the staff there but I haven’t been in for a few weeks so perhaps new staff have joined in my absence. It’s such a shame because you were obviously a good and loyal customer and now they’ve lost you.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 20/10/2023 13:23

Lovely MJ's @Countmeout but please could everyone stop posting pictures of footwear 😂I am so so tempted, I love shoes and boots.

Noodle421 · 20/10/2023 14:04

@Theteapotsbrokenspout I know it’s tricky. I can’t stretch to both MJ’s and lace ups but I love them both. I have to say that the lace ups - and it’s probably the same with the MJ’s - feel pretty indestructible and will last for years I’m hoping. So cost per wear over time = minimal amount. That’s how I squared it in my head !

ScottishMouse · 20/10/2023 14:09

Reporting in on some Reworn purchases. While I agree with everything said upthread about the initiative, I also agree with @Snowyowl78 and I am happy to have got two great bargains delivered today.
I got the neat cashmere wool sweater in toffee and the linen cotton pinafore in slate.
Both were described as having light wear, the dress said the fabric showed signs of wear, so I was worried that would look terrible and have to go back. Both are in perfect condition. They arrived neatly pressed, and with tags like the attached.
I already had some of the neat sweaters and love them for layering in winter, so knew that if the condition was good I would keep that. The pinafore I actually also have another one of. I tried to buy the denim one last week as I wear the linen/cotton one a lot, but see my earlier posts about sizing and bad fit. I prefer the linen cotton one and wear it so much, and am now happy to have a second one in case anything happens to the first/it wears out. At £59 for each item, I am very pleased.
The full price new ikat trousers are a lovely fabric but a terrible fit on me - too long, waist too small, pleats no good - so they are going back.

dudsville · 20/10/2023 14:10

I agree about toast clothes looking so much better irl. And I'm also loving those mary janes @Countmeout !

dudsville · 20/10/2023 14:14

That's interesting@ScottishMouse and helpful. I'm with you and @Countmeout. I think the reworn initiative is weird, but i3 live in a capitalist society so the idea of making money from anything is familiar to me. Glad to have your review.

dudsville · 20/10/2023 14:15

One thing that strikes me about reworn though is you need to be familiar with the era of the item. Toast used to fit more snuggly, then it became oversized, now its a mad free for all.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 20/10/2023 14:16

What size did you order in the Ikat trousers @ScottishMouse ? It’s recommending a M for me as a hs 12 , but says the model is wearing a S so there’s no way I’d fit in a M.

Glad you’re pleased with your reworn, I wonder what toast mean by signs of wear then.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 20/10/2023 14:24

I’ve ordered the Birkenstock oiled leather clogs, sitting on my hands so I don’t order the MJ's too.

ScottishMouse · 20/10/2023 14:27

@Theteapotsbrokenspout i ordered a small in the trousers. I am a high street 10 on my bottom half (apart from my tummy!), and a 6 or 8 in Alix or Gabis.

Countmeout · 20/10/2023 14:28

For @Noodle421 They do feel pretty indestructible and will see me out.
For anyone interested in fit. I wear a 5 , except occasionally I find a round toe too neat. These however are fine. They are a 5.

I have to say a Seasalt cardigan is not as warm as a Toast cardigan.

Great to hear about your experience @ScottishMouse .

I think @dudsville is right about fit .

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 20/10/2023 14:31

@ScottishMouse I think I’d need a L then.

agnesmartin · 20/10/2023 14:36

@ScottishMouse - Sounds like you got some bargains! I dithered too long over the pear gabis, and they were gone.

What kind of weight was the fabric of the ikat trousers? I have a pair from a couple of years ago and they are pretty light - but thought/hoped these might be heavier, more suitable for Autumn, if not winter. Probably dreaming! Thanks!

ScottishMouse · 20/10/2023 14:36

@Theteapotsbrokenspout i would say that the S was quite big on my hips & arse, just too neat on the waist.

Countmeout · 20/10/2023 15:37

Has anyone watched the autumn layering video today? Lovely to see things on. I thought the sizing was interesting if you look at the chat.

The ‘Nicky’ top is much lighter looking than I expected but it was very well lit.

That brown coat at the end is one that would do years.

I love the dungerees but think I might look like a fat Mario. Lovely colour. Alix Cords that colour would do Toast .

mizu · 20/10/2023 15:45

I dithered too last night looking at the reworn page and missed out on the long linen summer dress with the elasticated back. It was on the site in black and as I already have the orange, I knew it would fit. But, alas, someone beat me to it.

Are they going to keep adding to it?

Oh dear, after being annoyed that TOAST were even contemplating asking people for old items so they could sell them, it appears that I too have been drawn into the scheme!

ToastCosILoveIt · 20/10/2023 15:57

I have been in store today, Hampstead to be precise. There were three staff members in there and they couldn’t have been more helpful: interested and interesting. Of course they helped me spend but they were definitely invested in much more than that so full marks for their staffing today.

So, what did I buy? Well, I start a new job on Monday and despite having a wardrobe full of clothes, much of it Toast, I decided I needed some new clothes for the role!

So, what did I buy - most of it was from the new drop:

  • linen silk jacquard trousers in lapis
  • v-neck garden print dress in toffee
  • ruffle collar crinkle twill shirt in spruce
  • pintuck cotton gingham top in charcoal
  • Sterling tasselled leather loafers
  • patch pocket organic denim skirt

i sized down in the ruffle shirt but kept to normal high street size in the other things. I have a 10 reserved at Islington in the denim skirt as it felt generous and with stretching might be too big in the 12. The lapis trousers could have been the 10 or the 12 but I preferred the fit of the 12.

I also tried in the spruce tiered crinkle twill dress (someone was asking about this yesterday in the midnight) and a ten was definitely big enough but there is a bigger gap in my wardrobe for the shirt version of the dress.

I tried on the Stirling tread sole leather boots which I can confirm are wonderful. They are neat and wonderfully soft leather so definitely smarter than the average ankle boot. I may still buy them but I have a few pairs of black ankle boots including the DMs that I was wearing.

I didn’t try any of the velvet pieces on as I wasn’t taken with them: I need sleeves, none of this strappy stuff for winter!

i loved the ruffle collar slubby check shirt in ink which had passed me by on the site. Again, one to size down in. I didn’t buy it but was tempted.

The Postier bag was an absolute thing of beauty but I so do not need another bag.

Anyone who has their eye on the Kate Sheridan Scout bag, Kate has 20% off this weekend using the code AUTUMN20. Having said I don’t need another bag, I did succumb and buy the conker version on the Kate site as it is the sort of bag I use all of the time for phone and lippy.

It was wonderful to be in a Toast shop, everything felt lovely and the shop was busy with lots of women spending.

I am enjoying all of the chat about purchases and about Mary Jane shoes. I actually sold a pair of unworn size 5s on our Facebook page when it first launched. I had bought them on EBay but they were too small. I wonder if they are more generous in size now as I love them.

How nice it will be to start a new job with some fabulous things@ToastCosILoveIt ! And congratulations!

ScottishMouse · 20/10/2023 16:56

Talking of the Facebook page, what advice do those who have sold plenty on there have? I listed some lovely things at the weekend but they are mostly still hanging around. I maybe priced too high, I just looked at how the items had sold on eBay and priced a bit lower than that. I’d love to shift the things I listed to make some space and some cash (although I’d still like to get a decent price for them). Any thoughts? Thanks.

ScottishMouse · 20/10/2023 16:58

Thanks for the Kate Sheridan discount tip @ToastCosILoveIt . I love her bags. I actually bought the Scout bag but returned it as it was just a bit too small for my needs. It is gorgeous though.
Enjoy the bag and your lovely new purchases. And good luck with the new job too.

faustina · 20/10/2023 17:17

@ToastCosILoveIt - congratulations on the new job - what a great excuse valid reason to buy a lot of lovely new things! Also good to hear about a positive experience in a store!
