Thanks for all the shoe love. They are very comfortable, supportive, beautifully made and seem to go with most things so I’m very pleased with them.

Saurus72 · 19/10/2023 19:08

@sonjadog I tried last year’s bottle green version and it was quite ‘bustly’ at the back. I just couldn’t really think when I’d wear it because the weather would need to be pretty cold but then it would be bulky under a coat. So decided against.

sonjadog · 19/10/2023 19:10

Thanks. Yes, I see what you mean. I am wondering how wide the skirt is. With velvet and it being very gathered, it might end up with too much fabric.

Stravaig · 19/10/2023 19:13

@dudsville 'Take that, you tiny voracious fluttery things!'
If someone pelted me with artichoke heads, I'd seek dinner elsewhere 🤷‍♀️

Hi all,

Re: Reworn

I am still incredulous that Toast asked people to donate their clothes, which they are then reselling to line their own pockets.

Call me cynical, but I am wondering if they are rummaging through the donated Circle rails at the end of each event and pulling off the best stuff to resell on the site.

Otherwise, I can’t think who, in their right mind, would give them anything.

Can you imagine the reaction if another high street retailer did this? I can see the DM headlines now 🤣I don’t know how they are getting away with it.

Will get off my soapbox now, (I have had a foul day at work and am feeling grumpy!)

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 19/10/2023 19:19

I agree with you@Dee1224 . I also think if they must do it, they should show photos of the faults.

Dee1224 · 19/10/2023 19:21

You are right @Theteapotsbrokenspout - I will not be buying anything, (although I admit some of it looks lovely!)

sonjadog · 19/10/2023 19:54

Do you experienced Toasties think there might be a sale before Christmas? I am still considering the denim pinafore.

I completely agree. I mean if the proceeds when to charity, I could get it. It's absolutely outrageous.
Even if they are selling them.cheaply, they are pocketing a 100% profit.
I find it galling.
Absolute greed and lining Toast pockets.

dudsville · 19/10/2023 20:05

You're on a roll@Stravaig !

@sonjadog , there might be a brief limited sale in November, at least they did last year i think. Then a December sale that, like the summer sale, should go on for ages and have lots of stuff.

Stravaig · 19/10/2023 20:20

@dudsville I've got the sillies, hoolies in ma heid!
My grandfolks had a saying for it, in Doric, but from the Gaelic. Gone, for now at least. I'm trying to write them down, finiver a mind em.

mizu · 19/10/2023 20:28

@faustina sorry too to hear about your experience and bravo to admiring an outfit. I had a lady behind me in the supermarket queue today tell me how stylish my dress was - TOAST denim pinafore worn with an olive colour wool Uniqlo roll neck underneath - and I felt like this 🥰

@Theteapotsbrokenspout I have the brown leather birkenstock Boston and love them.

A lot of lovely new things in the drop, love the velvet and some of the dresses.

My local TOAST - Cheltenham- is lovely.

faustina · 19/10/2023 20:35

@mizu - I always love it when someone says it to me too! It's a real pick me up isn't it? I think more people should do it (if it's possible to do in a non creepy way). Last time for me was when I was wearing my brass alixes in Waitrose. I'm glad to hear there's another nice Toast shop - I'll add it to the list in my head

Stravaig · 19/10/2023 20:35

More soberly, has anyone tried the olive Blundstone boots? How is the fit and colour?

mizu · 19/10/2023 20:49

@Stravaig these are gorgeous, aren't they? If they are the usual Blundstone boots, they come up slightly big but not overly so. I have brown ones in a 6 and my feet are 6 / 6.5 and wide-ish and they are very comfortable.

Snowyowl78 · 19/10/2023 20:52

I totally agree about reworn but if people are happy to donate stuff, nobody is forcing their hand and if people like me want to spend £50 on a dress then I will, despite general disbelief about the whole concept

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 19/10/2023 21:07

Thank you @mizu - can you tell me a bit about birkenstock boston sizing.
I tried the foot measurement thing on their website and that made me a 37.5 regular. I am normally a 38 in all shoes and according to the reviews on Toast their bostons are true to size even though they are selling the narrow fit. I’m finding this really confusing.

mizu · 19/10/2023 21:11

@Theteapotsbrokenspout I have the bostons in a 6 and the normal fit, not the narrow fit.

I originally thought I might need them in a 7 but they were too big and kept slipping off.

Not sure any of that helps ??

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 19/10/2023 21:23

@mizu I’ve obviously confused myself as it was 37 - no such thing as 37.5 🙄. I should be near some birkenstock stockists in a couple of weeks so perhaps I need to try some on.

Stravaig · 19/10/2023 22:36

Oh thanks @mizu - if I may ask, is that with thick socks on?

faustina · 20/10/2023 06:39

@Theteapotsbrokenspout - the thing with Birkenstock is I think the regular size is wide and unisex, and the narrow is regular women's sizing. I'm a 5.5/6 and in the Birkenstock narrow sizing I'm a 39, but in the regular sizing I'm a 38

So if you're usually a 38 in shoes, you're probably going to be a 38 in the narrow, and 37 in the much wider regular. Hope that makes sense

Blundstones are a whole other kettle of fish and seem to vary wildly according to the model - I am a 5.5 (half sizes in Australian sizing just mean wide - so 5.5 is 5 wide) . The classic boots, like the green ones would fit me in a 5.5 or a 6. The lug boots are much bigger and mine are a size 5

It shouldn't have to be this complicated!

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 20/10/2023 08:20

Thank you @faustina that's really helpful and beginning to make sense.

The blundstones that @Stravaig linked to are really lovely - I do like a green boot - but I am not looking as I definitely don’t need any more boots, and the sizing on them sounds even more confusing.

mizu · 20/10/2023 08:26

I think Faustina has explained way better than I could have done! Indeed it shouldn't have to be this complicated!

I didn't know that about the Birkenstocks, just know that the narrow 6 was too tight for me - that was Arizona though.

Yes to Bostons with socks. How thick are you talking though? I can wear mine with wool / cashmere socks of standard thickness and I have wide but not exceptionally wide feet. Plus I don't like the feeling of tightness at all on my feet. Would much rather not wear boots / shoes at all!

What miserable weather to come back to. Very envious of @ilovecherries still in the Spanish sun.

Re the selling returned clothes I noticed Cos are going to do something similar. There must be a tax benefit to it. It’ll be interesting to hear people’s experiences if they do buy Toast renewed, some things are quite appealing.

Great brogues @Noodle421 .

I hope you get your day on Sunday @faustina and have had a lovely birthday meantime.

My scarf from Scarlett knitwear has arrived ahead of me and I am very pleased with it. I opted for rust and it with be lovely with some of my jumpers. It also can be rolled and used as a hairband tied on top ( if I had the nerve to wear it like that). Thanks so much for the recommendation.

Giving my Seasalt cardigan its first outing today with the Toast Mary Janes. Black Alix too. My no show socks are showing so ventured out bare footed. Slight rub in right foot which needs another hole but my overall impression is that I’ll wear them loads. Will attach pix. I do intend to wear socks once it’s properly cold. I actually bought them to wear with tights and dresses. Big bonus they make me feel tall.
