@neveradullmoment99 I'm thinking a boat may be prudent planning! ⛈️🌊

Today is a space check linen shorts day. Getting lazier by the day though. We were up early to go to Granada, then our neighbour told us you should pre-book Alhambra and when I looked, there were no tickets. We’ve been collapsed on balcony ever since. Getting ready to rouse ourselves to go out for lunch.

@ilovecherries would you mind telling me your size in these?
I'm a RL 12 , small waist
They look perfect as its absolutely balmy here and even though I'm not keen on my legs I really like these.
They pop up every now and then on resale sites .

In the shorts? I’m in a medium. I’m a 10-12 in Toast, 12 on the high street. I very much don’t have a small waist though and these are plenty big enough. I do have to do a little hip shimmy but I still have a large swelling - grapefruit sized probably - after my hip replacement earlier this year, so anything pull-on needs to negotiate that.

clowniform · 07/10/2023 19:32

Yay for outfit pictures and descriptions! Especially great location shot @mizu
I ended up going to the Knitting&Stitching show today so wore a self-made dress (gingko print navy wrap).

@PretLea Uniqlo knitwear is so variable it's really hard to recommend anything. Even in the CWK collection the white and pink colourways of the same jumpers I bought were markedly inferior (thinner scratchier yarns, already looking a bit 'worn' and fuzzy even in the shop). To be fair, the worst quality cashmere I've encountered there has still been better than White Company and other higher priced HS brands, so worth a punt if you really like something.
The style I buy most are their merino ribbed tops. Wash and wear excellently, but not exactly luxurious softness!

PretLea · 07/10/2023 20:03

@faustina I really like the Brora alpaca funnel neck boxy sweaters, but rather let down by the synthetic fibres in it. The vests also look nice, but I don’t like the colour block effect they like so much.

I must admit I’ve had a look on the COS website, but there’s something about their clothes/website I find off putting and find it hard to look it. Maybe the way they style it, or the photography. Don’t know what it is. But realise I do sound quite strange in saying this.

@clowniform I’m not sure I want to risk Uniqlo knitwear then, but those merino sweaters look really great for layering. Will definitely grab one or two to try, thank you.

Alpacasoft · 07/10/2023 20:18

Thanks @ilovecherries

faustina · 07/10/2023 20:41

@PretLea - I totally agree about the weird colour blocking - hideous isn't it? I hope you find something you like in the end. Another company I like is Chinti and Parker - I have a few of them (wool and cashmere mix) and they've lasted very well. Also I would buy (if I wasn't already at peak jumper) the new Mimi Berry range which look very nice. Cos website is quite mad, you're right, but the jumpers are brilliant!

clowniform · 07/10/2023 21:19

I love COS though generally shop in store. Recently had an insufficiently caffeinated morning of trying to track down some wishlisted items from there, on the Toast site 😅

But I will even browse the atrocious Zara site and bare-bones web 1.0 ones from Japanese brands so COS' doesn't seem so bad!

@OftenOrange i have and love that forest green top. I also may have posted a pic in that palm print dress... but i know others in here have it and in the other colour ways. It's so easy and comfortable to wear.

I've had a v full day here but those ecru trousers stayed feeling comfy and elegant all day. Does anyone have the indigo version that's still on line (i think)? I'm wondering if the fabric is similarly wonderful?

dudsville · 07/10/2023 21:42

As for brora, I'm finding they're stuck in a time loop. I like it, but even this new range, it's very... straight foward somehow.

neveradullmoment99 · 07/10/2023 22:36

Brora are really old fashioned in their styling. Not sure if it is the clothes or the models. Their things look really dowdy although I have been in JLewis in real life and seen some of their clothes and they are much nicer in real life. I have one cardigan by them. Its beautiful but there is something about the fit that I just am not that keen on.

neveradullmoment99 · 07/10/2023 22:43

The models look dated. I really don't get who their market is.

I mean this model is young but she looks like something out of an Ambrose Wilson catalogue.

SissySpacekAteMyHamster · 08/10/2023 00:38

I think she looks like a young Michelle Pfeiffer.

SissySpacekAteMyHamster · 08/10/2023 00:39

I'm 5 foot 2, can anyone recommend a decent brand for bottoms please. I'm OK top wise but seriously short when it comes to a lot of brands. Petite options please.

dudsville · 08/10/2023 07:22

I completely agree @neveradullmoment99 .

dudsville · 08/10/2023 07:33

Just catching up on the thread. 👋 @SissySpacekAteMyHamster, which boatneck jumper did you get? This thread is bad for enabling a pricey purchase! I'm not petite so can't help with the bottoms recommendation but bumping for you!

I wanted to consider the COS dungarees @clowniform, but delivery is a pain from them for me, can take weeks, and the shop never had the item in looking for even though it seems massive so I'm fed up. I have the green cord dress from several years back. I've always worn it as a house dress

A lot of the Toast styling videos show their trousers on smaller women - usually cropped styles that are sitting as long length. It might be worth having a look through and seeing what styles might work.

Alpacasoft · 07/10/2023 20:18

Thanks @ilovecherries

Just thinking though - the space check, the navy and a sort of bronze colour are all new sizing. I ordered a pair of bitter chocolate in the sale and could almost get another me in there. I ended up with XS in that colour.

Countmeout · 08/10/2023 07:54

Love your outfits @OftenOrange and @dudsville .

I bought a Uniqlo cashmere about 6years ago and wouldn’t buy again, I thought it thin. M and S is much nicer but a poor shape. Sticking to Toast cashmere mix. I’ve heard Uniqlo merino is nice but the ordering and returns are a palaver for me.

I love this little scarf but not the price. I think @ScottishMouse linked a maker last year. Does she or anyone remember? Not that it’s scarf weather here, swimsuit day for me.

Was it @faustina @Countmeout ? Since I'm at it in going to submit a 2nd guess of @ilovecherries. But i thought they were cheaper so i might not be remembering the right product.

ScottishMouse · 08/10/2023 08:23

@Countmeout I saw those on Scout’s Instagram and love them too. I have spoken before about Jo Gordon’s neckerchiefs, but the prices have gone up massively since I bought mine years ago. So I think you are thinking of someone else’s recommendation. I remember it, but not who made it or who the maker was. Sorry.

OftenOrange · 08/10/2023 08:50

@dudsville The palm print looks great on you, the colours are so Toasty and Autumnal.

The discussion about Brora and Cos is voicing sentiments I’ve had for a while.
Although I’ve dipped in and out of Toast for decades , it’s only recently that my commitment has been so wholehearted, and the Toast aesthetic has become my norm.
I’d never have bought patterned clothes before for a start as my splash of colour and pattern was a scarf or shawl . So before Toast the neutral plain items were much more interchangeable , whereas now I do sometimes struggle to put items together , and quite a lot of tops aren’t easy to wear under a jacket or coat.
Whereas Cos is great for understated plain clothes with a more streamlined shape …but the fabric quality now is quite revolting !
As for Brora , my cashmeres are fantastic quality but the shapes very unToast in being more fitted . I do love the colours and can see the appeal to the cohorts who have come via Boden but want a more luxe feel.

Alpacasoft · 08/10/2023 09:43

Sad about Brora.
Someone has dipped in the archives because vests are back in and fished out v neck fairisle.
Family becoming designers is fine if they have talent...

Luckily I have some beautiful classics stashed away.

It was @faustina who posted about the neckerchiefs

I'm on the look out for mediums as I think we are a similar size.

It's beautiful here, my hens are digging holes and sunbathing ☀

Snowyowl78 · 08/10/2023 10:10

@Alpacasoft be careful with those shorts- I bought them a few years back when they originally came out and they are massive I have the small and I’m a 14, I think the recent batch were revised sizing and now are bigger since @ilovecherries has the medium. I have the bitter chocolates and space check in a small and the navy and copper in a medium (and even that’s a bit small). On resale sites I’d ask for measurements
