I haven't chimed in on SKYE by Brora because I don't mix Mumsnet and politics, and because, at this point in my life it is no longer possible to be polite about the bleepity bleeping bleeps bleepippy blikking bleepips bleepitising Scotland.

Also, nepo babies.

I think that covers it.

faustina · 08/10/2023 10:13

Well remembered @Alpacasoft and @dudsville ! Yes it was Scarlet Knitwear and I love mine very much! It's still 26 degree here and I'm in shorts picking quince off the tree, but I will definitely buy another one this year. I follow her in instagram and she's a one-person business in Scotland. I can really recommend her scouts for the colours, quality and extremely reasonable price!
I think the problem with Brora is they're trying to appeal to a lot of different people - it's not very focussed in the way that someone like Lavenham seems to be.

Who’s SYKE?

Snowyowl78 · 08/10/2023 10:10

@Alpacasoft be careful with those shorts- I bought them a few years back when they originally came out and they are massive I have the small and I’m a 14, I think the recent batch were revised sizing and now are bigger since @ilovecherries has the medium. I have the bitter chocolates and space check in a small and the navy and copper in a medium (and even that’s a bit small). On resale sites I’d ask for measurements

Oh crap literally just bought a pair of medium 😂

Stravaig · 08/10/2023 10:17

The new geometric Playground scarves are wonderfully striking!

@Alpacasoft oh dear! Well you might be alright if they’re the new batch! Where from?

Vinted !
No idea if they are old or new.
Had to dig to find them so they have been on there a while ...

Snowyowl78 · 08/10/2023 10:25

@Alpacasoft maybe ask for the product code and we can tell you which ones they are :) unless it’s the same code, not sure

Who’s SYKE?

It's a kind of subset of Brora designed by young people!

faustina · 08/10/2023 10:30

Alpacasoft maybe your shorts will be ok if they're slightly big? I love a nice pair of baggy shorts - very flattering!

Haha unless they fall down!
Never mind I can always resell ...

MsDastardley · 08/10/2023 11:35

To add to the cashmere discussion, Me&Em have the odd nice piece, and not too badly priced, well considering how expensive a lot of their stuff is. Jigsaw have had some nice things in the past, not checked this year though.

I bought a boxy cashmere cardigan from Whistles a couple of years ago, and that has been excellent. Very soft, and not much pilling. I bought same style in navy last year, and definitely not as nice, feels rougher.

I do like Brora, and I find it wears really well. However, as we’ve already discussed the styles are repeated constantly and I’ve exhausted it now!

ilovecherries · 08/10/2023 11:43

Roused ourselves early today to go sightseeing (although now sitting in a boardwalk cafe!) space shorts and the poplin top with the drawstring neck. At home, all the trains are off, roads flooded, villages cut off.

Sorry @Alpacasoft you might find they’re fine anyway!

No worries@Snowyowl78 🙂
It's part of buying from places like Vinted/ ebay.
If they are too big I will either sell or alter them.
Too small would be worse!

It’s so bizarrely warm here today that I am back in Pond!

Hope for your holiday and the folks there that it's temporary @ilovecherries

I enjoyed your post @Stravaig !

Hey folks, anyone have a good recommendation for tea towels, placemats and napkins? I've decided this is another area if my life that i could improve but don't know which brand to choose.

faustina · 08/10/2023 14:38

@dudsville - I love Labour and Wait and also Objects of Use, but they can be a bit utilitarian for some tastes. Liberty have some wonderful things but I think mostly in the actual shop

Can anyone suggest a cardigan to go with this Toast dress please? Bryn Tie Neck Reflections Print Crepe Dress in sea green colour.

I'd like to wear the dress during the cooler months, but I'm always cold and will definitely need a cardigan. I just can't decide on the style or colour and thought I'd ask the Toast 'experts'. I don't mind if the cardigan isn't from Toast, but I don't want knitwear from the high street. I'm just looking at navygrey, there's some lovely knitwear on that site, but I can't decide what will go with the dress.

dudsville · 08/10/2023 15:09

Thanks@faustina , I'll take a look!!!

Snowyowl78 · 08/10/2023 15:10

I got this yesterday, it’s lovely!

im confused by it though, it’s very summery and there’s only one single picture of it on the website, appears to have turned up from nowhere!

We are currently on a fabulous campsite in Galicia right on a stunning white sand beach.. weather is 26deg and I am wearing the blue spotted dhuggie nightdress from 2020 season as a kaftan/ wafty dress

Laska2Meryls · 08/10/2023 15:36

Can anyone remember what the blue/ green pattern sea print lounge dress that was in the last sale called ? I am wishing that I bought one and want to look in next sale
I bought an old ( Must be because I dont remember it)Toast blue linen kaftan dress on ebay this morning.. seller was only asking £17 because it had a small bleach mark on sleeve and accepted my offer of very little above that .. I will be on the dye again when I get home!!

Countmeout · 08/10/2023 16:10

Thanks for the neck scarf info. That’s them. I just will have to decide on a useful colour.

Re the shorts. Mine are from the most recent sale not sure which version they are , and I ordered XS, S and M. Kept the S . I am currently a big 10/12. I find them comfortable. So comfortable , mind you no guarantee one pair is anything like another.

OftenOrange · 08/10/2023 16:56

@Snowyowl78 I remember that beautiful fabric from a recent Season , but it didn’t come in that style ; I do find that style so lovely to wear , what a find !
