Do you think short sleeves are more useful @dudsville ?

The postman has just delivered my Seasalt cardigan and after a quick try on (I’ve a lot to do today) I think it’s great. Reasonably Toast like esp the colour, except the wool is 60% 40 nylon although I suppose that might make it hard wearing . Nice length. Sleeves very long but I like that. I sized up so I can easily put things underneath.
Wearing brass Alix and the wee cheapie jersey tie neck shirt today.

Occasional lurker here hoping for some Toast advice.

Q1 - Yesterday’s sweater has a Toast label but I’ve no idea when from. It also says 80% wool 20% Nylon and Made in China, but I thought all the knitwear was made in Europe. Do I have a convincing fake on my hands?!

Q2 - I bought this Olive wool cashmere sweater a week ago and the colour is just perfect 😍 However, after two wears, it’s so bobbly! I know they put a tag saying that it may bobble and to be careful, but this is a level I’ve never seen before (and I wear a LOT of jumpers!) Any advice? Just accept it and debobble every time, or return?

Today the lime and check linen sundress is getting an airing. Now thinking I should have brought more dresses and less shorts (and probably no trousers!) as freeing the waist is very comfortable in the heat.

Hi.

Q1- I've not seen that jumper before so will await other folks input. Some items are made in China - like this (which is gorgeous) - so wouldn't take that as a definite fake sign. Do you have picture of label?

https://www.toa.st/products/cashmere-wool-wrap-scarf-celtic-blue

Q2- I have that jumper in other colours and it does bobble a lot so you haven't got a dud one. I just debobble each time after wearing it but if you don't think would work for you, do contact Customer Services. I like the fit a lot but would stop me buying more in future.

Countmeout · 03/10/2023 11:17

Is that not a White Stuff /Fat Face jumper from last year? Sorry just seen it has a Toast label. It looks thin though for Toast in that style.

@ilovecherries interestingly this year I’ve packed additional shorts for day wear(but only round the beach/pool /walk ) as I found I wasn’t getting enough sun on my legs as dresses are now longer than a few years ago. I do agree though they are wonderfully loose on the body by comparison and love them for shopping/sightseeing/evening etc. That’s a lovely dress you have today. I imagine it’s very light from memory. I don’t usually take trousers except to travel in.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 03/10/2023 11:29

Both your holiday dresses look lovely on you @ilovecherries . I agree it's good not to have anything too tight round the waist when it's hot.

faustina · 03/10/2023 12:59

@ilovecherries - oh I love that dress so much. I think I was stalking the top in the same print this summer (before I came to the conclusion that there wasn't to be a summer)

@shangpie - I think I have seen the blue jumper and they are def made in China. I think I had a brown version but it didn't love me as much as I loved it, so I sold it. It was called the graphic yoke jumper. I don't remember it having 20% nylon though. I've just done some googling and this was my jumper:
https://www.johnlewis.com/toast-graphic-yoke-wool-jumper-oat-charcoal/p5151578

as you can see it was 100% wool so it'd be odd if yours isn't - but even odder if someone is restitching toast labels into other jumpers don't you think?

I don't know about the very nice olive jumper but plenty of others have that and I was thinking of buying the blue which I have now crossed off my list. Life is too short to debobble so regularly!

ScottishMouse · 03/10/2023 13:39

@ShangPie , I have a previous version of the olive sweater in two colours. I found that they bobbled a lot to begin with, but then the bobbling seemed to settle and I don’t have to debobble much at all now.

BettinaInDenmark · 03/10/2023 13:40

@ShangPie I have quite a few of Toast's 70%wool, 30% cashmere sweaters, and I don't think they bobble more than other sweaters and cardis I have in 100% cashmere. As your olive one is 90% wool, 10% cashmere only, I would have thought it bobbles less - maybe the yarn quality is less this year.

I would agree with this.
I had the grey but brown melange one from last year.
I washed it after one wear to get rid of the loose fibres and its been fine since.

Loving the trouser arse/ no arse chat
I'm in the small waist, flat stomach but 🍑 arse camp.
I found the Gabis just fell down all the time which weirdly gives me backache and makes me very irritable.
To fit my bottom and thighs loosely I needed a 12 but they were like maternity trousers around the waist and tummy.
Happily rehomed them.
Annie's are my perfect trouser, just lovely and they stay up.
I have 2 dark denim, one black, one stone.

Alpacasoft · 03/10/2023 14:18

Can anyone point me in the direction of some black suede boots please?

Someone on the thread wears them with dresses, small heel but dresser than flats.
Cant remember who it was and you cant just search images on here.
Recommendations welcome

@ShangPie sorry - written in haste. This is my Toast jumper

The plot thickens! My jumper has a label and the same product code, but clearly has a different composition and place of manufacture - will upload now. Perhaps I have somehow got a sample?

ShangPie · 03/10/2023 14:50

So odd…

Anyway, I like the sweater so will continue to wear it regardless of the provenance.

Thanks for the advice on the bobbliness of the olive wool/ cashmere sweater. I will try giving it a gentle handwash to remove any fuzz and see if it makes any difference. I love the colour so much, I’m willing to tolerate a small amount of inconvenience

Edited

There has been discussion previously that sometimes things are slightly different to the modelled shots,I suspect the pics are with an early sample perhaps?
Your jumper could have been picked up in one of the sample sales which are in store.

There was a fair bit of discussion about knitwear provenance and quality a couple of years ago so perhaps toast changed supplier or manufacturer?
Just seen the stain discussion @faustina
A good scrub with baking soda paste leave then soak in a bottle of soda water.
I really miss Biotex

This thread is so delightful -- arses, wool and manufacturing mysteries, o my!

@ShangPie I have noticed the big spinning mills (Zegna, Cariaggi, Knoll, Johnstons etc.) will commonly put up the same seasonal shades in a 100% wool, 95/5 and 90/10 wool nylon or various 70/30 blends so probably when Toast went to reorder more of that model they had to switch to whichever was in stock.
The olive jumper uses recycled cashmere, so the fibres will be shorter and all different qualities, which will make it far more pill-y than usual. It's only 10% though so once they all work their way out it should probably be more low maintenance.

Great points about shape and distribution adding another layer of complexity to arses @dudsville and @Alpacasoft 😁My projection is also mainly backwards rather than sideways/outwards (trying to be vair ladylike here). I still have to alter Toast trousers, it's just usually more straightforward than with most other RTW (shorten the elastic on Gabi/Alix or move buttons on Annie).

@Countmeout love the silhouette of your outfit today and agree that cardi does look very Toast.
@ilovecherries you look cool as a cucumber again!

@oddandelsewhere thank you for warning about the jacket. Awkward rolly collars are a hard no, and a bizarre choice (cutting the undercollar at least in 2 pieces would save fabric, surely?)

faustina · 03/10/2023 15:55

How strange that the jumper you have is made in china and with nylon! It is beautiful though.

Stain update: I've made a paste of oxy action, scrubbed it to bits with a nail brush and will leave it like that until tomorrow when I'll wash it. If that doesn't work, it's going in the bin ( looking at it while scrubbing I'm not optimistic).

Loving the jumpers, she your orange cardigan@Countmeout , love your lime check dress @ilovecherries !

I'm in the landscape dress today, but it's got v windy and I'm struggling to keep it down!

AmethystMoonShine · 03/10/2023 17:09

@Alpacasoft I might be wrong but I think it might be @Saurus72 who models the gorgeous boots with her beautiful dresses. I admire them too 😊

ScottishMouse · 03/10/2023 17:20

I’m back on the search for trousers that will suit my non-existent arse! I wore a dress today and it was too breezy and too rainy and I just felt uncomfortable and cold. My happy place is a pair of jeans and a great sweater, but I’ve not found jeans that work for me in years.
So…the Suki trousers - can someone who has them tell me what size you went for in comparison to Alix or Gabi? Thanks!

dudsville · 03/10/2023 17:35

I thought the Annie's were also more straight fitting? I can't wear them.

Snowyowl78 · 03/10/2023 17:44

@ScottishMouse i got suki in a medium and wear alix and Gabi in a 12. They are generous. Potentially I could have tried a small but I didn’t bother

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 03/10/2023 17:45

I've got all of those trousers @ScottishMouse Most of my gabis are a 10, apart from a cord pair that are a 12. My alix are 12's, and I bought the Suki in a M.

I do like my trousers loose though and the Suki are quite baggy, I did try them in a S but I think the legs were too tight, and they didn't hang like I felt they should.
