@Countmeout and @ilovecherries - I hope you both have wonderful holidays and that all your cases stay un-lost!

@Firesideknitting - those cords look really nice. Which ones are they? Good luck with the bulb planting. I had a bulb spree a couple of weeks ago - nowhere near as many as you, but I was very glad once I'd finished planting them. I bought a very impressive thing from Crocus called an augur, then realised it didn't fit on my cordless drill, so I just used blunt force (with the augur)

Staingate update: I only had a very brief stop at Waitrose so came away with something called Dr Beckmann Power brush so I thought it was worth a go with that before anything else (my nail brush has disappeared and Waitrose didn't have any). It's in the washing machine now!

They are from passenger £75 a pop, so good price and very comfy

I've got that jumper too, @OftenOrange - I think we share the love of orange.

You mentioned in a previous comment about the saggy-ness of trousers. That is one of my big complaints wrt Toast - and other - trousers: There is wayyy too much fabric for us who are not well endowed in the hip and backside area.

I have learned to live with the extra fabric, but am sometimes a bit dissatisfied with the lack of ability to show off those few parts of me that are actually slim 😎

ScottishMouse · 02/10/2023 16:49

I am in total agreement about the sagginess of the bums in Toast trousers. I have no waist to speak of, but also very little in the hip and bum dept (not a great combination!), and although I love the Alix and Gabi trousers that I own, they really are not that flattering at all. Fine with a longer top, but I think I have to give up on them otherwise.

Stravaig · 02/10/2023 17:09

It's not your bums, lovelies, it's the complete lack of tailoring these days! Speaking as someone with a rounded bottom - a bad thing when I was young, but now apparently 'booty' - all these shapeless rectangles gathered by elastic and drawstring look terrible on me too. Skilled pattern cutting and tailoring techniques are a lost art 🤷‍♀️.

No1Mousie · 02/10/2023 17:33

@Stravaig too true!

Stoic123 · 02/10/2023 17:36

Also in a favourite Toast jumper today- the Lace Yoke jumper in Teal.
Pond dress looking good in Spain.

@Stravaig Yes that’s so true , but I suppose the variety in bottom shapes and waist hip ratio must make it hard to suit everyone.
I’m afraid going down the path of life has resulted in an even skinnier derrière.
Oh well, at least I can’t see it myself !

For those clever with alterations, do you think trousers can be taken in to tighten the back in an aesthetic way ?( ie no uni but)

mizu · 02/10/2023 18:12

@No1Mousie I have that dress on today too! But with a striped top underneath.

Excellent photos from everyone.

OftenOrange · 02/10/2023 14:14

Today I’m in a jumper from Spring ‘22 , it’s quite thin and looks good tucked in , but not very warm.
Toast easy t and very old Ashley denims.
Ancient Arche shoes I just dug out of storage .

I have this in the brown and sapphire, bought in he Xmas sale. I’d snap it upon your colourway too. I suspect mine might be too big this year so I will have to embrace the slouch.

Pond dress thoroughly enjoying Spain. And I met a woman trolley-to-trolley in carrefour today wearing a Toast dress. What are the chances of that! We both smiled and said ‘great dress’. Iykyk 😂

ilovecherries · 02/10/2023 18:38

I have assumed the perfect holiday position tonight, while DH slaves over a hot stove! My feet are still so swollen from flying. Even a short flight seems to cause it these days.

ilovecherries · 02/10/2023 18:39

The position!

I wonder if a couple of darts might work? I’ve had that done on fixed waistband trousers and skirts, but if it’s an elasticated waist it might become too tight to get over the hips.

Countmeout · 02/10/2023 18:46

Wasn’t me I am not there yet @ilovecherries 🤣

Thanks @faustina .

faustina · 02/10/2023 19:27

isn't a saggy bottom part of the design of Alixes and Gabis? Along with a slightly dropped crotch?
I have one pair of Alixes in a 6 (the others are 8s) and it is much less saggy in the smaller size, but I do have to wriggle to get them on - still just as comfy once I'm there, though they look a bit fitted and I'm not sure if I don't prefer them a bit loose/oversized

The pond dress looks brilliant @ilovecherries - and thanks for the Passenger link @Firesideknitting - I hadn't heard of them before!

clowniform · 02/10/2023 19:57

Sticking my arse up in defence of clown pants. Alix, Gabi etc. are so comfy and easy and saw me through all pandemic weight fluctuations and WFH I cannot hate on them. Even when making my own I am drawn to features like dropped crotches, barrel legs and elasticated waists (all 3 in the last pair I posted on the dressmaking thread)😅In fairness 'flattering' isn't really a priority for me.

You could certainly alter those to make them more conventionally tailored, though if going much more fitted you would have to add a fastening so you can get into them -- easiest would be a side zip, though some kind of wrap could also be managed depending on how much excess there is.

Anyway @OftenOrange I tried on the Fracap today in 38 (only ones in the shop). Sadly my feet were sliding around in them even with the thickest socks they had over my own, so I ordered the 37s and hope those won't be too tight for my calves. The leather was astonishingly soft and colour even more beautiful IRL! 😍

@faustina how is The Stain???

@ilovecherries Lovely picture and lol at the meeting!
@dudsville twinsies today, I'm also in the chalkboard check dress (though haven't decided whether to keep it or re-sell....)

OftenOrange · 02/10/2023 20:13

@ilovecherries I was so tempted by the brown/blue in the sale ,but my jumper drawers overfloweth into plastic storage boxes .
Pond likes a glass of wine , and a seeing Toast in the supermarket scores a 10 !
@Clowniform Hope the 37 s fit , look forward to your thoughts when they arrive .

Many thanks for the saggy bottom comments ,I also love a dropped-ish crotch , a slouch etc , but that’s not so nice when the backside literally caves in !
I now see that the only way forward is either devoting my free time to squats, a special garment or never seeing my back view in trousers ….

faustina · 02/10/2023 20:20

@clowniform The Stain is still there. Dr Beckmann did absolutely bugger all. I am off to buy a nail brush tomorrow and will have a go at a couple of your collective suggestions and if neither of them work I think it is going into the bin with a big lesson learnt to examine more carefully in future before leaving feedback

That is so annoying, Faustina. I have mentioned my crotch-stained gabis before 🤮. I’m pretty stoic about 2nd hand clothes (and to be fair haven’t had many epic fails), but that pushed me over the edge of tolerance.

applecatchers36 · 02/10/2023 20:44

Loving the range of outfits today from Pond dresses to winter knits something for every season! Am in a blue crinkle fabric dress as trying to ignore the cooling weather and max out the dress and bikenstock days before moving into trousers...

faustina · 02/10/2023 20:51

@applecatchers36 - don't be too hasty about putting it all away! We are forecast 25 degrees before the end of the week here!

applecatchers36 · 02/10/2023 20:58

Faustina here's hoping 🤞🤞

dudsville · 02/10/2023 22:25

@OftenOrange , i was going to say darts too but just got to@No1Mousie 's and @clowniform 's comments. I wonder if any of their elasticated waists have darts, i think a couple pairs might. I'll check in daylight, but I'm due to be out of the house too early to check tomorrow.

I tried to comment earlier but think i closed the app too soon. It was just to add I seem to have an ass for toast trousers, unfortunately 😶. And wide hips. But I'm oddly flatter down the whole front of me. I'm like a 2d cartoon.

Loving all the jumpers and envious, it's v muggy where i am. I had to ditch my socks coat and hat nearly as soon as i left home this morning.

Perfect holiday pic @ilovecherries !

I really like the chalkboard, though I'm thinking of shortening the sleeves.

That's a shame about that strain@faustina , leave it soaking perhaps? And as for the other stain @ilovecherries ... that makes me shudder 🤮

oddandelsewhere · 03/10/2023 09:28

Back again, still trying to find the perfect jacket! I ordered the woodland green cord one, but it will have to go back. The colour( more of a khaki than green) looks absolutely awful on me and as I suspected the collar doesn't sit properly, I think because a collar that size really needs to be made in 4 pieces rather than 2 to give it a more 3 dimensional shape.

It's hugely irritating that this season's sea salt cord jacket at half the price has a collar made in the more tailored way that sits better, but I don't like the shape of the jacket.

On a more positive note the navy brushed cotton and linen top is lovely, thick cosy fabric and a nice roomy fit.
