Toast Marlow’s instagram shows the little cape thing . It looks longer than I recalled and actually maybe useful enough. Has anyone seen it?

Not in real-life but looks much better in that Insta photo than the website. Still a bit too arms restricting/expensive for me but better than I thought.

ScottishMouse · 01/10/2023 12:55

@pretlea, yes i ordered the gingham dress, and am hoping it will arrive tomorrow. I tried it in store and yes, the arms were tight. I am going to try it again and see if I can live with that, or if I might turn it into a skirt. I have done this before with a dress that became too tight on top. I’ll report back when it arrives.

faustina · 01/10/2023 13:43

You are all so wise about laundry/fixing things. I hope no-one minds me asking a completely non-Toast question? I bought a Margaret Howell Linen/cotton tshirt on Vinted which arrived yesterday. I tried it on quickly, had a good look at it and apart from smelling horribly of fabric conditioner it seemed fine, so I left nice feedback and put it in the washing machine. It wasn't until I came to iron it that I noticed there is something VERY wrong with the armpits - it's a sort of caked on 'something' - as if the person has been spraying layer upon layer of deodorant onto the actual tshirt. It's not just a stain. Is there anything you can think that I could do apart from put it in the bin? It doesn't really show but I'm not going to wear it like that

@faustina - looks like dried-in deodorant stains to me.

I'd try baking/bicarb soda paste (3 powder -1 part water) and scrub it in with an old brush (toothbrush/nail brush). Leave for couple hours and wash.

faustina · 01/10/2023 14:08

@Stoic123 - thank you. Will have a go tomorrow

@Stoic123 - thank you. Will have a go tomorrow

You may get other suggestions today - some very knowledgeable people on this thread.

dudsville · 01/10/2023 14:42

Ooh, @faustina, I've never come across that problem. I'd definitely try @stoic's idea. When my dh worked he used a strain remover for his cotton work shirts, it was a powder in a pink tub.

faustina · 01/10/2023 15:02

@dudsville - I never have either! I'm trying to be charitable and think that she didn't realise the stains were there when she put it on Vinted. I'll have a go at Stoic's suggestion tomorrow and then I think there is a big plastic tub of some stain removing powder. I use Vanish spray for stains usually but I don't think it's going to cut the mustard with this

ScottishMouse · 01/10/2023 15:31

@faustina, maybe try soaking in soda crystals. I did this recently for a very old and much loved white shirt that was not looking so white anymore around the collar and cuffs and it came up great. I used these, you can get them in any supermarket :

clowniform · 01/10/2023 15:33

Oh horror @faustina I hope you can get them out! No experience with deo in particular but I generally use Dr Beckmann stain devils (they have multiple formulae).

Thank you @Countmeout and @Stravaig for info about the wrap cardigan. Hopefully they've got more colours in reserve for upcoming wintry colour stories (trying to think like a Toast marketer...)

This Indian summer is seriously messing with my wardrobe planning. Still haven't decided on this year's ankle boots and until I nail those I can't properly deal with trousers and overall silhouettes. ✨Influenced✨ to try the Fracap Monkeys if @OftenOrange or anyone else can advise whether I should size up or down as an awkward 4.5 (37.5)?

Healthful wishes to @dudsville and @neveradullmoment99. And take it slowly. I'd thought myself fully recovered but a busier work week and family celebrations have totally flattened me. Have spent an entire day on the naughty chaise couch bingeing The Running Grave and now getting the itch to shop..... Has anyone tried anything from the latest Uniqlo U or CdC collections?

OftenOrange · 01/10/2023 15:53

@clowniform I was told that the Fracap Monkey boots don’t come in half sizes.
I’m normally 39 and have 2 prs Fracap sandals in that size . I’ve quite narrow feet but they’re very difficult to please.
They only had 38 in Shoreditch , it felt OK , but I’m glad I went to another store where I could try 38 and 39 to compare .
I took the 39 on the basis that I can deal with slight roominess with insets , but. Overtightness never goes away.
I’ve worn them with the cashmere mix socks and don’t notice anything except total comfort . They give me a nice swinging stride .
Hope you get them ; you can see by the long winded reply that I love them !
I really rate Fracap ,

faustina · 01/10/2023 16:06

Thank you @ScottishMouse and @clowniform for the laundry help. It would be nice to get it back to wearable as it's a nice tshirt

@clowniform - I have my eye on a couple of things from the Uniqlo collabs, but have given up ordering online from them, partly because their sizing is so unpredictable and partly because they charge for returns. I'm hoping to do a trip to Oxford Street next week to try some things (strike dependant) - although I did order two cashmere jumpers this morning from the nearly new cashmere drop

dudsville · 01/10/2023 16:10

@neveradullmoment99, I missed that you had covid! How are you faring? Did you have it too @clowniform ? Hope everyone's getting too rest.

That's a nice description @OftenOrange "They give me a nice swinging stride"!

AmethystMoonShine · 01/10/2023 16:17

I've had success with undiluted white vinegar and sweat stains @faustina . Just a table spoon or so (a sloosh, is my technical term) on eat pit then sqidge it in well with a clean cloth or sponge to work it right in, then leave for a bit, then wash - is I think roughly what I've done.

faustina · 01/10/2023 16:19

Thanks Amethyst! I knew you'd all have some answers on this thread and you haven't let me down!

Was going to suggest the same …

Stoic123 · 01/10/2023 17:11

@faustina - you could try a pit each with the two methods and report back 😀

faustina · 01/10/2023 17:13
Grin
dudsville · 01/10/2023 17:51

Ahhh, the old pit stain test! We might need "after" pics @faustina .

Stoic123 · 01/10/2023 17:52

@faustina - on a serious note, the seller should have looked over the item first (giving them the benefit of the doubt here).

I bought a jumper on Vinted and the seller claimed that she hadn't noticed the very large moth hole in the sleeve before sending. In her case, the artfully positioned photos called 'Bull'. I liked the jumper though so decided to keep and Toast did a lovely repair. I shall mentally flick Vs at her as I enjoy wearing it this winter (sorry - very childish 😀).

Good luck with Operation Pit Stain.

faustina · 01/10/2023 17:52

Will get kitted out tomorrow if there's time, and make sure I take pics!

faustina · 01/10/2023 17:55

If I'd noticed it would already be on its way back to her. Yes she should have noticed and there's absolutely no way I'd ever list anything without showing all flaws, it's just not worth it - also, you know, treat other people etc

faustina · 01/10/2023 17:56

@Stoic123 - I hope you got some money back!

dudsville · 01/10/2023 17:59

That would make me angry @stoic!
