Are we going to buy or have we peaked?

If you follow the link from the above post Molton Brown code on there takes the calendar down to £168

Cyclingmummy1 · 01/10/2023 08:17

I'm tempted by the LiB/style one.

Branster · 01/10/2023 09:27

Now that I was hoping for £60 discount for LiB, I feel disappointed the code doesn't work.
The £25 off code works though. I'll put it on the back burner for a bit.
Last year I got it in November with a discount and a free edit beauty box. They might sell out before they do a similar good offer this year but I'll take risk and wait a few weeks.

Ohdear7 · 01/10/2023 10:13

If you buy LIB via their TikTok shop you get £30 off as a new customer bringing it to £145.00. As last years eventually got reduced to £99 on TikTok I think I’m going to hold out for now

Housewife2010 · 01/10/2023 11:07

This code works for LIB/Style. For regular subscribers it takes it down to £118.

How do you all afford these expensive luxury ACs ? Surely you also get some products in them that you won't use/ like/ need ?

Can only speak for myself, but I don't sound a lot on skincare during the year. This is a great way of trying different products, and I always find something I love and will RP.

It's a bit of fun, a treat for me in December. And I sell unwanted items on ebay for a bargain price as a rule, so I get a bit of money back too,.

Its a treat that I look forward to. I don't smoke, rarely drink now and work bloody hard so it's what I choose to spend some money on.

MavisMcMinty · 01/10/2023 12:48

I have just succumbed to the LiB Style box, £123.25 with AC150 and the 15% LiB Pro discount. That’s two ACs now, and pretty sure I’ll get the M&S one too as it’s the best value. A week ago I really thought I wasn’t going to bother with at all this year!

AprilLady · 01/10/2023 13:05

@Splash80 I love the calendars and the whole experience of opening them through December. I am in a very fortunate position in that I earn well and can afford it. Most are priced in such a way that, if you have the funds, they are worthwhile even if there are some products you won’t use. Like others, I resell these on ebay at prices which offset the cost to me but are really good value for those who choose to buy them.

There are some that are definitely not worth it - Google the Chanel advent calendar of a couple of years ago that was priced at £850 and included, among its drawers, stickers and other free Chanel tat that you might get if you bought something direct from Chanel. Many of the single brand ones are also only worth it if you really love the brand. Those are generally not the ones most on this thread tend to buy.

MavisMcMinty · 01/10/2023 13:23

Benefit and Elemis are the only brand ACs I’d buy, because there are so few of their products I wouldn’t use. Had a 12-day Benefit AC last year and the only DoD was the black eyeliner. I appreciate it’s probably my age, but I don’t know anyone who wears black eyeliner.

PomRuns · 01/10/2023 13:59

its a lovely treat and and makes early mornings a bit brighter.

I work hard, more hours than I need to so justify to myself !

Still can’t decide which to go for.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 01/10/2023 14:52

Please someone put me out of my misery. What's DOD? Dead on delivery?

Thanks for whoever linked the perfume advents. DH is a member of TFS and has got me the fragrance one for £68.

I had the Liberty one last year, but can't justify it this time. I have a big stash of stuff that has to be separated into 'day serums', night serums, eye serums etc. There's already too many of them. Perfume? Nice to squirt something different on, have plenty of handbag sizes. There's a couple of shampoo/shower gel/face mask things, but all copeable!

MavisMcMinty · 01/10/2023 15:08

DoD = Drawer of Doom.

For me that’s black eyeliner, Nars Orgasm blush (only ‘cos I have so many already), eyelash curlers FFS, silk sleep masks, and anything else that’s been in every beauty box for the past two years.

PomRuns · 01/10/2023 15:13

Margaret Dabbs
surratt anything
aromatherapy roller ball.

MavisMcMinty · 01/10/2023 15:24

OMG! Just seen Dior’s AC on the Beauty Detective site - £570!

That’s not an excited and tempted OMG! by the way, it’s a horrified OMG.

enchantedsquirrelwood · 01/10/2023 15:33

You lot are a bad influence.

Last year I didn't bother, but this year I've bought the Lumene one, as I think I can use most of its contents.

I have had the Arran one, it was nice, but not as good value as some of the others.

I don't splash out on other expensive beauty products. For example, my go-to moisturiser is Superdrug's Vitamin E cream which costs £1.50 a tube! Also I didn't bother with an AC last year, and am not sure I did the year before, either.

Edited

I'll add the nail file from last years Cowshed AC.

Lovethatforyouhun · 01/10/2023 15:47

Some people have money and they want to spend it on ACs, and some don’t.
Hardly a mystery?!

QueefofSheena · 01/10/2023 15:52

This year's pointless product seems to be the nylon 'silk' pillowcase.

I didn't realise that Liberty were doing a fragrance calendar. It's mentioned on the link but I don't think I've had an email about it. It's not out until November so I'll have to strongly resist as I'll have built up a bit more BD credit by then

AprilLady · 01/10/2023 16:14

@QueefofSheena the Liberty one on the link is actually last year’s. It didn’t sell that well (was not nearly as well priced as the Harrods one) so no idea whether they are doing one again this year or not. I’ve not seen anything about it so far.

Thanks @AprilLady that makes sense

Etam · 01/10/2023 18:58

I think I'm going to pass this year. I never purchase makeup ones because 1/2 the products look awful with my skin tone and hair colour. A couple years ago I purchased the L'Occitane one and I really liked it, and subsequently started regularly purchasing a few of the products from it. But once again (same thing happened last year) the products on offer have got worse, it's increased in price and decreased in value. Plus L'Occitane gave reformulated my favourite face cream and it's shit now so I need to find a new one.

ChannelLightVessel · 01/10/2023 20:00

‘The Heat of the Day’ is her WWII novel, apparently, if that appeals.
