Ha! This is probably the one I returned, as I did that in the Edinburgh store. Glad you managed to get hold of it, it would likely have just sat in my wardrobe unused.

Oh that is hilarious @ScottishMouse , I did wonder how they ended up with one lone breen bag, especially as I was told that they sold out quickly at the beginning of the summer. Thank you!

Firesideknitting · 21/09/2023 19:00

Hello lovely all… forward Seam trousers are my toast attire today …. With a check top, little question. Tights ? I normally buy tights from sea salt on offer, how do the toast tights fair ?? Many thanks in advance

Tremblingmadness · 21/09/2023 19:01

What a fab idea @dudsville

i think I might do the same and include all the items I have had to return because the sizing was totally wrong.

I become more and more confused on the sizing front and it really puts me off buying online. Last week I had to take a size 12 Trouser and a Small Jacket back to store as they were too small but ended up buying something else in an XXS.

The lovely lady in store compared all three at the counter and agreed that the sizing issues are very frustrating !!

ScottishMouse · 21/09/2023 17:30

Oh who was that @dudsville and what did they turn into a skirt? Do you remember? I know I can do it and it would work well with lots of things I have. I would definitely do it at sale price, but somehow full price it seems a bit nuts.

I have a cotton cashmere checked dress (the one with the huge pouffy sleeves) that I’m considering having turned into a skirt. It’s far too big but he design us quite complex so can’t see any other way of altering it.

I never normally contribute to the sizing discussions as I always order a medium (I’m a true-to-life size 10/12 inverted triangle) and if it’s slightly too big, then I learn to live with, probably because I’m neurodivergent and I hate returning parcels at the Post Office. Also, I have this (no doubt questionable) idea that slightly oversized clothes are more flattering and possibly more slimming than those that touch where they fit? Plus, I like to really be able to move in my clothes and I like plenty of forgiveness space so no needing to undo buttons when I’ve overindulged at Sunday lunch.

Having said all of the above (apologies for War and Peace - the Toast edition 🙈) I was slightly perplexed to have to order a size large in the pink linen shirt I got in the sale - and it only just fits on the shoulders. I wonder if Toast is aligning with continental sizing where a 12-14 is regarded as a large? Also, while my weight has not changed in years, gravity is no doubt having some effect on the distribution of fat as I age? Or maybe it’s not me, and it is in fact them?! 😅

Dee1224 · 21/09/2023 19:26

Oh, it’s ‘them’ @SmaugMum definitely ‘them’ 🤣

The ways of the Toast sizing are bizarre and mysterious to us ordinary mortals!

Stoic123 · 21/09/2023 19:38

@dudsville - I have a list of every Toast item I have bought. I scan the returned items list just before a sale - mainly to make sure that I don't repeat buy something that doesn't suit me (has been known).

Stoic123 · 21/09/2023 19:41

Love the look of this jacket but the 2 colour options are too muted for me - sigh.

I have the jacket in walnut and it’s a richer colour IRL than shown online IMO. I was quite surprised. Here’s a picture - but bear in mind it’s been taken in artificial lighting.

Noodle421 · 21/09/2023 20:06

In natural daylight, I find it’s quite a strong colour but your strong may be different to mine. I find it to be a delightful little jacket.

neveradullmoment99 · 21/09/2023 20:24

I wore my new orange linen dress yesterday. I realised why I don't like linen when the weather turns bad especially with the rain. It just felt very crushed like a rag. Anyone else? Or do you wear linen in winter?
I love it in the summer sun and am not usually bothered by it on warm dry days. Weird.
I was very annoyed as I leaned over and it caught a staple on my brand new worn only on the day dress. Had to do a tiny invisible mend today on the tiny hole that was created but really annoyed at myself.

faustina · 21/09/2023 20:39

@neveradullmoment99 - how annoying! I got caught in the rain today (which was not forecast AT ALL where I live) and I was wearing linen Alixes which instantly got soaked through and I looked ridiculous. Might be a signal to put them away til next spring 😢

@Noodle421 - that is such a wonderful jacket

Stoic123 · 21/09/2023 20:44

@Noodle421 - thank you. It is gorgeous. Possibly still too light for me but I now might wander into my nearest Toast shop this weekend to take a closer look.

mizu · 21/09/2023 21:04

@faustina I've just put my TOAST linen dresses away 🥲 thought I might get away with wearing one at work with a jumper this week but it just didn't feel right.

AmethystMoonShine · 21/09/2023 21:34

I’m in the process of clearing my laundry pile of linen to pack away for winter this weekend. I only wear it in summer, not sure why. I think in my head linen is for summer only 🤪

Took a trip to the post office this afternoon with my sale returns. I can’t recall who warned me but they were right about the copper linen shorts being smaller than the bitter chocolate and navy versions!
I also returned the midnight boat neck linen dress which was so beautiful and fitted so well from the waist up but billowed ridiculously from the waist down. Very sad about that one.
The white poplin tie side shirt went back too. I ordered XS/S which is ridiculous as I’m a 12 but it was still too big, or at least the back of it was. It stuck out all puffy at a strange angle.
The voile kaftans went back too. Nothing wrong with them as such but not worth even £75 in the sale, just not that special.
Then the saddest return was the Sturlini sandals in the red colour. They were so so beautiful and soft…. But the bloody straps had sharp edges that cut into my inner ankles. So cross!
Keepers were the cobalt blue linen dress with the tie thingy at the front. The colour is stunning, love it. Also the white blouse with the checks. Can’t recall it’s name. Lovely though, it’ll need a camisole under it though as very sheer. Nice sleeves.
Now starting to look at the newer stock…..

clowniform · 21/09/2023 21:51

Another one who got caught in a sudden apocalyptic downpour rain today! I was wearing an old Toast poplin skirt (the gathered ones with a raw frilled edge at the waist, if anyone remembers these) which despite not being linen WAS ankle-length so looked like a dip-dyed design by the time I made it to shelter. @neveradullmoment99 I do wear my thicker (200gsm+) linen dresses/skirts quite a bit in a/w, it seems to stick less to tights than cotton and an entire outfit in linen and wool makes me feel very ...connected by threads to foremothers, off to gather cobnuts and mushrooms etc.😅

Love hearing about people's alteration projects and plans, especially @dudsville always inspiring!

PS the shelter I found was a big M&S so I tried on some clothes. The wildly random sizing made Toast standards seem extremely strict in comparison! Not even mentioning quality of fabric and construction... somehow came home with two pairs of boots though

dudsville · 22/09/2023 07:19

@Firesideknitting, i like falke merino. They're not tight around the tummy and last so much longer. My only complaint about them is that I do have to pull them up from time to time.

That's ridiculous @Tremblingmadness but that's good to know staff are aware too. When I phoned CS to make my exchanges (I needed to tees in L and one dress in a 10!) I assumed toast thought we weren't wearing the items correctly. I also like oversized loose things @SmaugMum and most of my wardrobe is fit the same reason. Whilst I do really like the look its the freedom of movement and comfort that won me over.

Oh no @never, how annoying to have to do a repair at first wear! But, more importantly, that's a really special dress, was it nice to wear until the rain?

I'm thinking my new love of linen will extend into winter too @clowniform. Especially as my work is hot and my outdoor coats are v warm. Though I'm thinking of my linen dresses, nott trousers and skirts. I can't wait to get into the cords and the cotton cashmere trousers!

Nice keepers @AmethystMoonShine !

I started off doing that but I try so much more than i keep - how do you manage that amount of information? Aside from multiple purchases trying to get the size right, there were only a few items that i repeat bought forgetting i had tried it before.

Ha - your list would be much longer than mine. I also include Toast items I've sold on same list. In most cases I'm not interested in buying it in another size but, if so, I stick it on a wishlist instead with required size. If I have a regrettable return - I also add to wishlist with a question mark.

I use my iPad Notes app so easy to copy and paste from the order form direct (and to reference).- extract attached.

lordloveadog · 22/09/2023 08:39

I am using the large Breen bag today. Ironically enough, to carry several parcels which need returning. It is perfect for this.

clowniform · 22/09/2023 09:03

@dudsville I really should start an archive doc too, rather than googling fruitlessly for older style names which you all seem to have at the tips of your fingers! I only keep a rolling wishlist right now.

@lordloveadog 😁

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 22/09/2023 09:24

Having been through my wish list and deleted items I no longer want I have noticed it is gradually creeping up in number again as toast add random things to it. This includes a couple of pairs of Sturlini shoes that I don’t even remember saving.

As regards sizing most of my toast clothes are S or M / 10 12 , this sale is the first time I have needed anything in a L - the mint tank. I think the biggest pain for me is what seems an increase in clothes which don’t fit those of us with a larger bust.

Stravaig · 22/09/2023 09:55

Lovely things have been reappearing in my Saved list which are out of stock and Page No Longer Exists when I click on them, the bleepity wee teases!

(I still don't have the money, but honestly, can't I even daydream in peace?)

dudsville · 22/09/2023 10:18

Wow @Stoic123 that's a useful doc but I can't aspire to that!

@clowniform I think mine will be helpful as I sometimes want to refer to a dress here and it's useful to have a place to copy and paste the pic. For me I like seeing all the highly discounted prices - made me feel better about my wardrobe!

@Stravaig and @Theteapotsbrokenspout, I'm also getting those ghosts of wishlists past!

The last of my sale arrived this morning and I'm keeping it, unsurprising as it was from a reorder via CS for different sizes. The XL mango tank, (like the ochre one upthread) is a nice fit, not too loose, except I'll need to take out a little triangle from the under arm. I have an xl emma that I wear like a tunic with the space check trousers and you could fit two of me in that, so this is more evidence of stupid sizing. The L i the mint version is perfect, a little loose under arm but I won't bother adjusting that. Looking forward to wearing them! I also got the alder in a 10 - again, this is ridiculous, it's still so roomy. I looked at it a lot before deciding to keep it - rather than having bust darts it has an under boob pleat that is sewn into the waistline. It creates a different shape, which for me makes it quite stright up and down, which isn't how I look normally! I like it as the fabric and pattern mean I can go bra-less - something I look for nowadays in my clothes!

Snowyowl78 · 22/09/2023 10:30

By the way if anyone was looking for the Breen bag I got a refund for mine today so they will have one in stock
