@BettinaInDenmark - yes, a little, but not so much as to overspill the mules. They still fit in all directions!

Thanks! I was a bit worried as the end of my heel almost hit the edge of the lining on the shoe

Snowyowl78 · 20/09/2023 13:43

@BettinaInDenmark i also tuck the T-shirts into my knickers! I have the v neck jumpsuit and struggle a bit getting it on and off as the buttons are on the back.

BettinaInDenmark · 20/09/2023 13:55

Ah @clowniform so wanted to try it all last night. But I had a reeeelly long work day. Picked up the parcel on the way home, opened it as soon as I got in, and had a look and tried on the Fracap mules. Then dinner, and totally falling asleep in front of the telly... The well laid plans of mice and (wo)men...

Before going to work this morning I had a quick look, though. It annoys me that a lot of shirts/tops are actually a bit see-through. I really don't like that. Even the navy linen shirt looks like it will be. The blue oxford surely is.
The forward seam cotton trousers are quite large - I ordered both colours in size 18, as I have so many other Toast trousers that are actually quite small in size 18. Hmm, and I really want to loose some more kilos.
The pique shirt is gaping even if it seems large enough. But I should have known, as I got the same one in orange in the last sale. Maybe to be used as jackets.
The t's were so crinkled that you won't believe it, so will look at them tonight.
I didn't look closely at the black crinkle cotton skirt, but I can see that it is the same concept as trousers and a top that I have from a couple of years back; crinkle cotton on the outside and checked on the inside. I really like the concept but it gets very warm.
So - trying things out will hopefully happen tonight.

Both looks good!

I got the Lydia jumpsuit in the sale couple of months ago. My first jumpsuit in decades. I really like it, but have a hard time wearing a t-shirt under it, as the t-shirt seems to fold/roll. Is there a trick to this?

I tuck my tee shirt into my big knickers. #classy

Glad I’m not alone in the knicker thing @Snowyowl78 @ilovecherries 😁.

Dee1224 · 20/09/2023 14:01

I can see what you mean about the the tee @clowniform - you really know your stuff! I so admire people who can sew/dress make, etc.

I love a lot of Toast stuff, but quality control seems increasingly to be an issue with some items, unfortunately.

Snowyowl78 · 20/09/2023 14:23

I got the Reeds check shirt today, and the fit is really odd. Gaping on the chest but all big and billowing everywhere else. Shame as I like the material. I think the material is the same as some of the patches on the patchwork shirt from last season

clowniform · 20/09/2023 14:27

😘That's a nice way of describing my insufferable pickiness @Dee1224 I know you had a QC epic with the towel, too!

@BettinaInDenmark take your time and enjoy the parcel! I know what you mean about the crinkle/checked fabric -- love how easy it is to launder but it is definitely a spring/autumn weight for me. Also a tee-in-knickers person! Although I also rate COS 'power shoulder' cut which is designed for tucking in (shorter length, fitted at the waist).

BettinaInDenmark · 20/09/2023 14:48

Oh I just remembered what would probably be perfect for wearing under the Lydia jumpsuit during autumn; does any of you remember those double-layer merino long sleeve T's that Toast had years ago? They were basically two T's on top of each other. And very slim-fitting. I will try with one of those.

dudsville · 20/09/2023 15:00

@clowniform I thought toast were now offering graphic tees when I saw your post! I checked mine and they do not have this problem. I also bought the same one as you and it's fine so well worth a return/exchange, in the meantime I have learned something about manufacturing.

Wonderful mix of casual blues there @Theteapotsbrokenspout! I have those trousers and love them, autumn is perfect for them. They're the ones i dismantled to alter the pleats. And the jumpsuit is lovely - how do you happen to have perfectly matching socks! I nearly bought it for my "gym wear", thinking it would make a good yoga outfit, but I'm pretty sure I wouldn't fit in it. Would you have a moment at some point to measure the top of the shoulder to the crotch? (Dressmakers: is there a proper word for "crotch" - such a nice thread I don't want to lower the tone!)

Cute jumpsuit @Firesideknitting , and I love that men's cardigan, hope you get it back soon.

Vicariously enjoying all of the MH love, I have to be careful - Toast is the most I've ever spent on things. It makes me really happy, but I don't want to spend more, or shop more for that matter!

That's a shame your trapeze had the same patern placement issue @Dee1224 , it is a really pretty fabric.

I did a final recview of my things ths morning and I've only kept 3 tees - boring staple ones in navy, washed black and pebble. I rang CS and they're sending the mint and mango tanks in L, which I presume I will keep but who knows, and the alder in a 10 - silly sizing - I'm a strong hs 14 but the 12 swamped me. I'm grateful for a cheap sale so I took my dh out for lunch in thanks for a lift to the post office as it was far too much to carry!

dudsville · 20/09/2023 15:04

And today I'm in the denim wrap dress that I turned into a pinafore with the brown uniqlo oversized top. Pic for colour as I can't get up of the sofa, pretty sure I'm about to have a nap!

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 20/09/2023 15:44

@dudsville I've just tried to measure shoulder seam to front crotch, I didn’t find it the easiest thing to measure (don’t know if I’m being particularly stupid) but I would say approx 75cm.
As for the socks, with my vast collection of toast socks I’d be surprised if I didn’t have a pair to match 😁, they’re the ink blue cotton rib socks from the beginning of this year.

dudsville · 20/09/2023 16:50

Thanks@Theteapotsbrokenspout !

ilovecherries · 20/09/2023 17:01

I braved my irascible Ukrainian tailor today with a precious and expensive (non toast) dress I wanted to see if she could alter for my holidays. One of her assistants was suggesting pulling it in by adding a back seam but I was looking very dubious about that approach. She came over saying ‘no, no, dress too expensive’ and while I was wearing it tacked princess seams in the back and front. Little modesty left as she felt around inside the dress, up the skirt and down the bodice but even with tacked stitches it looked amazing. I guess for that skill I can tolerate a bit of bad temper!

@Theteapotsbrokenspout Your Lydia jumpsuit is lovely and looks perfect with the Breton
@Firesideknitting The outfit rocks ! So does that men’s’ cardi, love the colour . I hope the women knits feature some good rust/ tawny shades, because that orange cord they are doing is way too bright or me in a large expanse.
@SmaugMum At one time I only wore MH and never missed a couple sample sale , but I found that the sums didn’t always work out as planned, many of my sample sale purchases were a mistake, caused by the pressure of having to decide instantly plus the godawful changing facilities , a real scrum.
The full price things never disappoint though.
I sold a lot of pieces from my collection when I stopped work , I did actually wear a Mac from her today , it’s short and in a weird stiff material but I like it.
Following the recent posts I’ve half à mind to jump ship back there .
Last night I pored over the collex and fancy the workwear shirt over a t idea , and I love the knitwear .

@Snowyowl78 - what size did you get?

I got the L/XL based on advice on Mumsnet. It's billowy but I quite like the look.

Snowyowl78 · 20/09/2023 18:56

@Stoic123 S/M! Too small, and yet too big!

Yes, I found the same with the S/M. The larger size is more billowy but a better fit on me. I loosely tuck the front into my denim skirt which brings the billow under some form of control. I like the look because It’s such a light and delicate material, I feel designed for ‘wafting in the beeeze’ and ideally worn on a rowing boat on a hot summer’s day in a pond filled with lilies…

Noodle421 · 20/09/2023 19:15

@ilovecherries your tailor sounds amazing !! Glad she could help. Sounds like a lovely dress.

@ilovecherries your tailor sounds amazing !! Glad she could help. Sounds like a lovely dress.

I am absolutely terrified of her, and earlier this year she told me off for taking too much stuff at once - ‘we are not your personal tailors!’ I was mortified and while DH has taken in a few of his things I haven’t been back. I wasn’t going to take this dress on holiday since it had gotten too big but it has a bit of emotion attached to it and a friend talked me into just facing my fears and taking it in to be fixed. So I’m pleased both with the potential result (get it back next week) and my bravery!

Love this.

Makes me think of sipping sundowners on a terrace above a beach. Worn flung over a swimsuit with a sarong and mayaris.

dudsville · 20/09/2023 19:49

I agree, that's a nice post @Noodle421 .

I'm envious of your tailor @ilovecherries !

Noodle421 · 20/09/2023 19:57

@ilovecherries perhaps she was just having an off day. It must give her satisfaction and pleasure to see how her work can transform your outfits. She probably was just having a grumble and needed something to eat. I’d ignore it and carry on regardless. I really hope we see a proliferation of tailors as good as the one you are able to access. My OH has a jacket which has had many little repairs carried out over the years. The fabric is getting a bit thin now but it looks passable and he still insists on wearing it to work (he doesn’t have to be uber smart). Many people would have thrown it out by now, but he’s had several more years wear out of it. He will only throw something out when it is hanging in tatters around him because he hates clothes shopping and doesn’t like me doing it for him either.
