@Firesideknitting one of my favourite shops ever as I love Margaret Howell/MHL but simply cannot afford it at new and full prices. Also, my DD2, who has autism and ADHD, will permit me a visit to the outlet shop on the proviso that she can spend an hour or three in the brilliant covered outdoor playground afterwards. It’s a win-win for me as free Wi-Fi while she plays.
What I would say is that the garments in my wardrobe that have stood the test of time and are still going strong and still feel effortlessly stylish and current are Margaret Howell and not Toast. I have a Mackintosh of Scotland/Margaret Howell Mac that is probably 25 years old and still gets a few outings in rainy periods plus a couple of collab Barbour jackets and a pair of Trickers brogue ankle boots that are about to celebrate their 20th birthday!
That dress is beautiful in a stealth-wealth Gwyneth Paltrow sort of way and you would wear it rather than it wear you. However, despite the innate longevity of Margaret Howell design, the silk content of the fabric would bother me, mainly because kids and sticky fingers. I’ll bet it will be dry clean only and, if you’re anything like me, you would drop something greasy on it in a cafe or restaurant and worry about stain removal (I am neurodivergent and I hate stains on my clothes) and I am always aghast at my DD1 who doesn’t wash or wipe her hands after eating but will simply run her hands down her clothes to clean them! 😱
Only buy the dress if you really love it and not because it is heavily discounted. Also, I have found that the manager and sales assistants there do occasionally have the discretional authority to further discount items do it could be worth asking if you want to proceed with the purchase?
