There lots of free patterns from 50s, 60s, 70s on line if anyone gets the urge to pull out their needles.
Here's one from 1958

@Alpacasoft @dudsville thanks! Very interesting!

Dee1224 · 19/09/2023 09:32

Hi @dudsville - sorry for thinking you had the pique shirt jacket. I am mixing it up with something else, I think.

What was the little top you put on over the Pond dress a while back? It looked lovely - dark grey or black with buttons? That’s the sort of thing I am after.

clowniform · 19/09/2023 09:36

Morning Toasties! Anyone else still without a dispatch notification for a sale order?
The dickey I made was from a reprinted 1940s pattern so as @Alpacasoft said understandably popular during clothes rationing. I used some Liberty scraps but was contemplating chopping up Toast kerchiefs in future😮
I am now also knitting one (this without the frill) which should layer well over especially voluminous-sleeved dresses and under open-necked coats.
Slightly outraged to hear these genius items were available into the 80s. Must have words with my mum for not informing me earlier, but she is one of those Effortlessly Cool Scarf-wearers so probably didn't see the point.

@Alpacasoft @dudsville thanks! Very interesting!

I have the urge to knit one now Smile
Probably in alpaca as non itchy around the neck.
Petiteknit on Ravelry has a gorgeous soft one.

Dee1224 · 19/09/2023 09:42

Hi @clowniform I made two smaller orders on Friday and haven’t had dispatch notes - it’s a bit odd. The money has gone out of my account, though. If I don’t hear anything today I will contact CS (again😹)

OftenOrange · 19/09/2023 10:09

@Countmeout Really weird because the sale was over. I managed to take a screenshot of the back from the film. It seems a lot bigger at the back on me and I take the same size
Edited to say …she has hands in pockets so maybe that makes the back lie flatter

dudsville · 19/09/2023 10:11

@Dee1224 , it's a cotton flannel overshirt from uniqlo, a good few years back. It has the swingy over sized shape that works with toast dresses. I find a lot of lighter weight knitwear too neat, not creating the look i want. So i have two of these, grey and brown.

clowniform · 19/09/2023 10:14

Same here @Dee1224 I was rather surprised as all other online shops only take money when they ship.
@SmaugMum Hear hear! There's a brilliant book about pockets by Barbara Burman: https://www.foyles.co.uk/book/the-pocket/barbara-burman/9780300253740

Dee1224 · 19/09/2023 10:18

Thanks @dudsville - it’s very nice!

Countmeout · 19/09/2023 10:37

Thanks @OftenOrange . I think she may be pulling it forward slightly but it broadly looks as I think mine does. It’s a great dress for warm weather. It’s so airy I can forgive it almost anything.

lordloveadog · 19/09/2023 10:51

Glad to see we're back to full chattiness! I'm enjoying hearing about everyone's sale purchases and especially the photos. I only ordered that big linen bag which should arrive today.

Today am in the dark blue loop back jersey trousers and jumper because wfh and going for a back treatment and it is very comfortable lounge wear but still rather nice. Think would be perfect for a long haul flight, not that I have any intention of taking one of those if can help it.

Feeling dudsville's pain on the scarves - I often buy cute little ones in 'my' colours and the colours look lovely but the whole scarf thing just looks silly on me and not insouciant and chic at all.

ToastCosILoveIt · 19/09/2023 11:30

My sales parcel has arrived and I am dithering on some things. The bold stripe linen tank in Prussian blue is a keeper as I already have the striped orange one and the plain orange one and they are fab and so flattering on the shoulders. The medium is perfect for my size 12 body.

The garment dyed linen pinafore jumpsuit in sapphire in a large: well, just not sure which probably means that it should go back. I tried the medium on in store and despite being a modest 12 and having had a breast reduction, it was too tight in on the bust. The large fits better but probably needs an inch off the straps and the jury is out as to whether its looseness on the body looks oversized or just plain too big. It also shows the bra straps which I am not sure is a good look for my age! When I hesitate I really need to send things back as it usually means I won’t wear it. I wish I had snaffled this in the dark green in the medium or large but they had sold out even before the sale. I was at a party in the summer with someone wearing the green version and she looked fab. She was curvier than my so assume she had the large one on and didn’t appear to be wearing a bra with it. She had one of those very even, golden tans and looked fab.

Cotton easy tea in coal is a keeper although the medium does feel extra big.

I bought the coral embroidered skirt in ecru with matching top: the skirt is divine, roomy for a size 12 so I can wear it on the waist or pushed down towards the hips. The medium top feels a bit big so not sure on this one, will need to try it on with the skirt and with some trousers. I am wearing dark underwear and these pieces really need nude underwear or a slip. I love, love the skirt.

I bought some Arizona oiled leather black birkies: as I already have the neoprene version and love them, I will keep these as the leather will age and look good.

I bought DH the ikat shirt and the Theo stipe cotton tee in green. He is away overnight so wont be trying them on until tomorrow night. They are a large for his medium frame (large seems to be his size in toast) but they do look big. I’ve learnt that what looks big or small on the hanger can look very different on his body so will have to wait and see. Some of his toast pieces are medium but we have had to size up in some pieces to a large.

That’s it for the sale, will mull over what I am sending back. I am enjoying hearing about all of your purchases and what fits/suits etc. I am so happy that these threads continue and give us the chance to compare and contrast with Toast and with other lovely brands.

Tremblingmadness · 19/09/2023 11:42

No dispatch notifications for my two orders @clowniform

Both placed on Saturday.

I am really hoping the orders don't get cancelled.

SmaugMum · 19/09/2023 12:01

Happy days! The weather is sufficiently bad for me to wear my olive Fracap hiker boots. To complete the outfit, I’m wearing my new Ikat jumpsuit, a Cod oversized longline navy cashmere cardigan, a Toast silk scarf folded as a bandana - and I’m rummaging in the cupboard for my Alexa Chung Barbour as it is pouring and blowing a hooley here and I’ve already been soaked to the skin on the school run.

BettinaInDenmark · 19/09/2023 13:32

Oh happy days - shortly after I had the conversation with cs yesterday, somebody apparently pushed the right button and the dhl tracking updated...
Had a message already that it is to be picked up in a parcel shop!
I had other plans for tonight at home, but they will have to give way for opening a big box of toasty items

applecatchers36 · 19/09/2023 13:55

So glad you tracked your delivery down BettinainDenmark enjoy the trying on session tonight!

My parcel arrived with some hits, definitely the forward seam trousers in slate, which seem quite Navy. Loose leg cut but look like they will be a workhorse pair. Disappointingly the canvas carpenter trousers were not cut for someone curvy. Fitted over the hips but baggy at waist.

Mint tank vest and pea tencel high neck top ( not in sale) were good.

Jury is out on high waisted bikin need to try on again. Am not sure the top is supportive enough so may return.

Am enjoying all the chat and reviews with our recent deliveries...

Dee1224 · 19/09/2023 14:10

Your purchases sound great @ToastCosILoveIt - thanks for the feedback.

@clowniform - I finally have dispatch notifications for my last two orders.

I am currently hiding in the front room with the windows open as my OH has tested positive for Covid. My youngest DS was sick last week and only told me today that he’d tested positive at the time. Apparently, and I quote: I had never told him to tell me his results, so it’s all my fault.

I despair 😩

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 19/09/2023 14:10

My Lydia jumpsuit has arrived and is causing me all sorts of dilemmas - firstly I’m not even sure how to get into it 😁. If I undo the buttons I can’t do them up again as my fingers are too arthritic to do up buttons behind my back, I have resorted to wriggling it up half way, then doing up the buttons and sort of shrugging it onto my shoulders.

Secondly, is it the right size 🤔? It’s a M and seems to fit well once I’ve wriggled into it, apart from the shoulder seams which are slightly forward of my shoulders. I think a larger size would slip off my shoulders as they are quite narrow, and obviously the sale has ended anyway and the L had sold out.

Thirdly, today is far too cold to try it on for long without a tee under it. There don’t seem to be any photos on the product pages for the Lydia’s with a tee. Although I think it does look nice with my fitted breton tee.

On the other hand it feels really comfortable on and I think I could wear it loads. I think I need to ponder longer.

Dee1224 · 19/09/2023 14:13

@Theteapotsbrokenspout - I have been wondering myself if the Lydia material is the sort to either get baggier with wear or to shrink.

Having fallen in love, unexpectedly, with the Lydia dress I tried on at the Circle, I want to know how it washes as the dress and jumpsuit are now firmly on my wishlist!

OftenOrange · 19/09/2023 14:17

@ToastCosILoveIt The embroidered coral skirt and top were on my wish ( imaginary lifestyle) list , I do hope you’re able to get the right top. All this talk prompted me to rewatch the Live where this was featured , swooning .

Its the final cut of my first lot and so I spruced up before trying it all on again .
Keeping : Pond. because quite flattering and cool / airy
Flora Green Seersucker , same
Navy boy tee , because love fabric , cheap and wlh get worn. Sleeves a bit

unforgiving to my scrawny arms , so returning the black
Sea Kelp skirt because Love.

Today wearing b/w tie neck blouse, Ecru Annies and Linas with socks.

Hi,

I am still pondering about the pique shirt/jacket and have tried it with my Toast linen trousers and two tees. What do you think?

PretLea · 19/09/2023 14:26

@OftenOrange those sandals are lovely. I’ve never worn socks underneath any sandals, but I’ve noticed it is the Toast way. And definitely a way to wear sandals into the cooler months. Will have to try it out.

I’m still hoping the Linas I got on the sale will be dispatched soon. And that they will fit.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 19/09/2023 14:27

@Dee1224 I can understand why you fell in love with the Lydia at the circle event, I’ve got 2 Lydia dresses bought on Vinted which I absolutely love and I always thought it wouldn’t be a shape for me. However I’ve hardly had chance to wear them so I don’t really know how the material behaves when it’s washed. I’m assuming as such a classic style it must retain its shape / size otherwise this would be in the reviews.

I do like the pique shirt on you, I tried one last year but I’d only be able to wear it as an open jacket as it gaped badly, so I reluctantly returned it.

Hope the dreaded Covid doesn’t get you, I guess you’ll be staying by the open window for a few days yet.
