@OftenOrange that dress is gorgeous and as a high-contrast person I will now be stalking it too 😁

@dudsville sorry to hear about the ikat not working out. I am indeed newly devoted to dickies, thanks for the tip! Was also going to get one of the block print bandanas to try pattern layouts but they were sold out. But it opens up the world of Toast scarves for me since I often find them beautiful but don't know how to wear ladylike accessories 😅

@faustina from CWK I decided to keep a cashmere cardi, cashmere cable jumper and lambswool mini skirt. From IdlF I'm keeping a poplin shirtdress and velvet skirt. Agree both collections run v. big but when I ordered only the smallest sizes were available which forced my hand and worked out. The XXS CWK cardi has a 45" bust and sleeves that are roomy enough to go over a Toast shirtdress and still reach my knuckles, and I'm just over 5'7"!)
My only return is the CWK hat -- hilariously bad and again enormous (I don't have a small head either).

Our Damson Field Flower Organic Cotton Bandana is hand block-printed in India. It has a bright pattern and hemmed edges.

I also struggle with "ladylike" accessories. I have a friend who wears scarves so well, like in your pic, understated cool. As opposed to when i try and it just feels like my outfit screams "scarf! I'm wearing a scarf!"

Well sale parcels arrived for me. Hmmm....
Well the sapphire dress, the one with the tie waist was a beautiful colour but neat on the bust for me. It also had a weird thing going on at the back, bunching out where the gathers were so sadly, going back. They cancelled my linen bag in the ochre colour. A bit gutted by that tbh. No email, just a refund. Pretty crap way to do it. The other sapphire dress, the one with the buttons at the top is again a beautiful colour, fits nice and is super comfy but it reminds me a tad of a maternity dress and I am way past that. It also looks a bit infantile with the buttons on the shoulder but it may just need styled up a bit with some jewellery. Anyone have this dress? I would always wear a tee under it, pinafore style. I asked my daughter if she liked it and she said she thought it was 'cute' and the colour she said is really lovely on me. Jury is out. Will try on when I am less tired.
The yellow check culottes are absolutely hideous on me. They are mahooosive on the leg and just bag out from the waist. Its an absolute no.
The orange linen slash neck dress is lovely. Definitely keeping this. I love everything about it.
I am still waiting on the maeve in orange [ although I am almost certain this will go back] and the late purchase of the Robyn dress. Neither have been dispatched yet.
Kind of disappointing.

Re the Breen bag, I returned one on Friday so that will likely be back in stock in the next couple of days

what is dickies?

Dee1224 · 19/09/2023 00:02

Thanks @dudsville - I am going to try the pique shirt tomorrow with Pond. Has your pique shirt washed ok? I remember that type of material shrinking in my youth!

Thanks @PretLea - something like that jumper might work. I am looking for a top to wear over dresses for autumn- that’s why I was drawn to the sweatshirt, (which is definitely going back - the sleeves are ridiculous), and the pique shirt.

Do people think the trapeze dress is likely to reappear next sale? I can’t keep the medium as it’s too big. I could wear a top underneath but I want the option of wearing it as a sundress.

Stoic123 · 19/09/2023 00:24

@Dee1224 - the Trapeze Dress didn't sell out quickly so should reappear.

There was another short sale at the end of November last year- maybe then?

Dee1224 · 19/09/2023 00:58

🤞@Stoic123 - I am also wondering if it might go down a bit more in price as it didn’t sell.

beechwoodmouse · 19/09/2023 05:02

@BettinaInDenmark hope your parcel arrives soon! i was expecting mine Yesterday, but when i checked the dhl tracking system they didnt even have it yet Now overnight I’ve received a delivery notice for Wednesday. Fingers crossed!
@dudsville sorry to hear the bikini wasn’t right, but love the dress photos -
they look lovely on you.

oddandelsewhere · 19/09/2023 06:42

Hello everyone, it's so interesting to see all your sale buys,I only bought the huge handwoven scarf which I will definitely keep it positively envelopes me! I wonder if anyone can remember the name of a company that someone recommended who make to order I think, very soft lightly quilted cotton jackets? I can't find them anywhere, and now that's made me go from being slightly interested to definitely needing several. Sorry to only pop in looking for help.

@Snowyowl78
A Dicky is a mock top/neck of a shirt or usually a sweater that you wear under a jacket or coat so that it looks like you are wearing a full sweater but it's not.
I suspect it was also a cost issue in the past.
Everything is circular, which pleases me greatly .
There are a few nice patterns on Ravelry and they are a nice quick project.
On the subject of small neck scarves @clowniform I have a small collection of Liberty cotton ones.
Not expensive, they are useful and I wear with denim shirt and coat dresses

dudsville · 19/09/2023 07:11

@neveradullmoment99, 8 know what you mean by "infantile" button placement but/and also how your daughter can say it's cute. I agree it's cute if you can get your head around it being the opposite of a power suit!

Apologies@Dee1224 , i tried the pique last sale but didn't keep it! I wash everything on a short 30 cycle though expect for knitwear and I find all the cotton things keep well.

@Snowyowl78 , yes to what @Alpacasoft said except I've only ever known them to be cotton, as if you're wearing a vest but in shirting material. I think they come up under searches for "modest" clothing, but they were generally around in the 80s to create that mock layered look.

dudsville · 19/09/2023 07:14

I didn't get a pic before I left but today I'm in the orange cord skirt from the march or December sale with the dark blue half placket check top and bracelet length sleeves from the december sale. It had a big pleat down the front which billowed and made me think maternity, so I stitched it down and now it's perfect!

Stoic123 · 19/09/2023 07:30

@oddandelsewhere - was it these? I've recommended them before.

I was trying to remember your link too @stoic. Each time i look and then decide not to. I think it's a they're made to order i fear getting it wrong. Do you have one?

oddandelsewhere · 19/09/2023 07:43

Thank you so much! Yes it absolutely was! I'm off to while away a happy little time choosing.

oddandelsewhere · 19/09/2023 07:44

Sorry, that thank you was for Stoic 123.

oddandelsewhere · 19/09/2023 08:01

Dudsville, I'm going to order one. If you can wait 3 weeks I'll let you know what the fit is like. ( I think we often like similar clothes)

dudsville · 19/09/2023 08:04

Absolutely @oddandelsewhere , I was thinking of asking my dh for it for Christmas but had been scrolling "quilted jacket" fruitlessly. I misremembered thinking it came from the Monty thread 😂

I think I'm a wee bit older than you @dudsville 😂
Dickys were definitely around in the 50s/60s/70s as a mock sweater neck with a placket on the chest.

OftenOrange · 19/09/2023 08:32

My final parcel has still not been sent, I’m hoping the ruffle mul mul shirt wiont be cancelled.

I found something new to me as I was trawling for info on the Flora green seersucker dress : on EU a link took me to a Live of Jenny Garcia modelling it.
I’ve never seen Live link on an item before , but it’s brilliant . Especially since she looks so lovely , with no billowing at the back.
I’m keeping it now of course !

Edited

I have 3 of them- get one a year and trying to sit on my hands to stop myself ordering the new blue one.

I'm a 12 on top (14 bottom) and have them in standard M (they are generously cut- so look like the model pictures on me). They customise further if needed (I've not done that) but bespoke items will prevent returns.

Countmeout · 19/09/2023 08:54

@Alpacasoft I thought dickie was a bow tie. Is it a colloquialism maybe? To me what you are describing would be a faux top.

@OftenOrange is there a link to that showing the back? Or her moving in it. I have the alder in the same style and am curious how it looks on everyone else.

It is a bow tie as well , also a fake shirt front or a fake jumper neck with a sort of placket to keep the chest warm.
My auntie would knit Dickys( dickey, dickie )like a one woman production line in the 70s along with baby clothes.
She had a deep drawer in her sitting room and you could go and choose one, she always had something on the needles ❤

Are you in Scotland @Alpacasoft if you don’t mind me asking?
