@dudsville - I do all my gym stuff from home now (and wear Sweaty Betty power leggings which are excellent quality and have lasted brilliantly well) - but when I did used to go to an actual gym I'd wear a big (thin) coat over the top to go home in as it just covered everything up but wasn't bulky. It didn't ever get sweaty- just the clothes I was wearing underneath. I always wear big cotton tees, but the leggings are synthetic, though I think the theory behind the fabric is that it's wicks away the sweat? There was an interesting article in the Guardian recently on fabrics for exercise

My sale stuff (and Uniqlo C jumpers) are still en route, but I received a beautiful yellow Toast mac in the post today bought from the FB group which I am really pleased with!

dudsville · 16/09/2023 13:48

The coat I've found in my drawer is similar to what you describe @faustina . And I know a lot of work goes into making exercise clothing perform well. I just don't like it and doubt my ability level really requires it.

I went to the gym. I didn't realise i have to wait to be invited as my gp has referred me, but they showed me around anyway. It was good to see it. It's comfortingly very basic.

MrsRadichio · 16/09/2023 14:14

Sounds like you have found a solution @dudsville but just if anyone else is interested there is this resale site with sweaty betty and finisterre.

here

I've also ordered the ikat jacket - my only order so far 😇

2 of my parcels arrived. I love the Shoal block kaftan exactly the sort of thing I would have worn in my younger days at festivals, totally impractical now, it’s very see through and also huge (I got the S/M). I would be foolish to keep it as I can’t imagine where I would wear it, I also already have the Double cotton nightdress which is much more practical. But I’m still tempted to keep it.

The Mint tank top is a keeper as is the Coal one, I did think this was cut too low for me but I can see it being really useful next spring / summer.

I also bought the Denim sweatshirt , I have got the M and the L. The M is a neat fit and I think the L is a bit big on the shoulders but useful over a long sleeved tee. I shall try them again later to decide which to keep.

The Watering can , which I had in my wish list for ages, is lovely, but I’m wondering if I will actually use it.

2 more parcels to come on Monday.

@dudsville when you get going you might find yourself enjoying the gym and will feel more motivated to look for clothing. I have one pair of sweaty Betty or LuluLemon leggings (expensive but they really do last so worth it IMO) and a wicking top - easy to wash and dry and ready for use again within a couple of hours. They take up little space in the drawer and easy to grab when I need them. Any outerwear for the journey home. When the leggings do start to fall apart I replace them and wear the worn out pair for housework.

OftenOrange · 16/09/2023 15:21

@Snowyowl78 Sorry the sapphire dress isn’t giving you the right vibe, I’ve ordered it too . I saw it on a blog I follow and thought it looked gorgeous.
I tried it in store and was undecided , the assistant said it was smart and perfect for a wedding ….which was a massive turnoff and why I passed on it .

PretLea · 16/09/2023 15:36

Popped into my local store this morning to try on the green coat for sizing. The store manager mentioned there was a small drop coming up in beginning October - some more Donegal sweaters and alpaca blend fair isles.

Got my first sale parcel

this was a no, made me look like I was in a cult or a celebrant. Nice colour though
https://www.toa.st/products/gathered-garment-dyed-linen-dress-sapphire

the breen bag doesn’t particularly excite me so will return. Wish they had the blue one.

this is rather lovely will probably keep but I wish it was a bit cheaper. Very light can wear as a jacket or done up as a shirt. Feel a tiny bit cultural appropriation-ish, hopefully I’m being paranoid

Snowy owl, if you wanted to sell the green linen bag, I'd snap it up from you covering postage and PayPal fees of course. Pm me if interested x

ToastCosILoveIt · 16/09/2023 16:03

@Snowyowl78 , breen autocorrected to green Smile

OftenOrange · 16/09/2023 09:09

@ScottishMouse Well I’m sure a lot of these things will reappear in the next Sale , at least I’m hoping …

Despite the fact the offerings were meagre I’ve taken @dudsville doctrine to heart , and I’m ‘trying’ a couple more things . The check ruffle shirt has attracted me for ages, time to try !
Alas , barrel leg dungarees taken off my basket .
Returns are painless as I live near 2 shops , I tend to distribute returns between them .

I got the ruffle shirt in the last sale. The fabric is wonderfully soft, and even if I haven't worn it yet, I totally love it

OftenOrange · 16/09/2023 16:35

@Brillenbar47 It’s perfect colours for me , but it will depend on SIZING !

OftenOrange · 16/09/2023 16:36

Sorry getting the bs confused , should be for @BettinaInDenmark

faustina · 16/09/2023 16:45

@MrsRadichio - thank you for that very useful link! Although none of my leggings are showing any sign of wearing out just yet - if they do I will buy from there

Firesideknitting · 16/09/2023 18:41

@OftenOrange thats so kind of you to say… have to say toast makes it very easy to find good combinations to wear … I try not to put too much thought into what I’m wearing, but then do at times find I’ve put an outfit together and then stick to that set outfit, very excited to hear about the small drop due next month, I do love a good jumper.. we primarily heat with log burners here, so a good warm jumper is a must especially during the day when it’s just hubby and I at home (we have fires on constant when sons at home, but only the one when he’s at school)…

Snowyowl78 · 16/09/2023 20:20

@ToastCosILoveIt oh no sorry I’ve already sent it back

Firesideknitting · 17/09/2023 00:01

dudsville · 13/09/2023 10:16

I don't search out brands so I don't really know about stuff until they're mentioned here, but I just searched the brands you mentioned @OftenOrange as I tend to like your choices and I do like them, but my goodess the prices! Which shoes did you get?

I'm in the space check tiered dress today and washing the fir check to prep it to go to the back of the wardrobe until cooler weather. @Snowyowl78 , it's only because of the fabric, I love the print, colours and the shape very much but the fabric is so off putting. But I'd also hate to part with it as i have a lot of shirt dresses so it's nice to have this to add variation. I just really wish it had been made in 100% cotton and it was a mistake to assume this and stick it straight n the wash. But all is not lost, I've taked myself into thinking this can be a winter dress worn over cotton things.

Those of you who get things shortened, do you keep the left over material? I'm just thinking that a fabulous quilt could be made of toast dress scraps!

I quilt as a pastime, the toast fabric off cuts are beautiful, however phenomenally expensive, if I had the need to have clothes adjusted, i would most certainly ask for the fabric cut off..

Snowyowl78 · 17/09/2023 06:26

I did get the off cuts when I had one tailor lady but the one I go to on the high street doesn’t give them to me.

Snowyowl78 · 17/09/2023 06:46

Anyone got this? Thought I might add it to my collection of unworn toast shirts!! Is heavily reduced and I like poplin
https://www.toa.st/collections/sale/products/gathered-sleeve-poplin-shirt-paper-white

one last order! I’m also trying the Ikat dress although the arm holes look like they are cut quite skimpily and might not work for me. It has not a single review which is odd. From watching a vid Nikki says it’s the same cut as the silk ones

PretLea · 17/09/2023 07:41

@Snowyowl78 I’d love that ikat dress. And also like the jumpsuit. What is the appeal of the ikat items? They are so expensive, so just wondering.

ScottishMouse · 17/09/2023 08:28

Non-Toast question, but I remember someone buying Sideline Billy trousers - maybe it was @faustina? What can you tell me about them - sizing, weight of the fabric, do they wash well, etc? Thanks.

Snowyowl78 · 17/09/2023 10:04

@PretLea i think they’re expensive because they are hand dyed/hand woven

PretLea · 17/09/2023 10:38

@Snowyowl78 I do understand that making the fabric is especially labour intensive and special. I’ve never actually seen any of the items in person, but assuming the colours are beautiful and soft to the touch.

clowniform · 17/09/2023 10:56

I caved and ordered the ikat dress too!

Jealous of all those with lovely scraps. Fabric is the main draw for me with Toast, but I'm taller (5'7.5") than they seem to draft for so have no hope of any. Just went to let down the hem of my recently acquired ebay chalkboard dress, only to realise the button placket is attached separately to the already-hemmed dress, so that 'fixes' the length. Contemplating sacrificing one of the pockets for fabric to piece onto the plackets. 😒

@MrsRadichio thanks for the link to that very useful site!

Snowyowl78 · 17/09/2023 11:16

Ooh @clowniform hope you like it. I’m worried that the arm holes are too cut out but we’ll see! I like things that you can draw in at the waist

clowniform · 17/09/2023 11:38

@Snowyowl78 that's my concern too, so I sized down. Spent an age staring at the model's armpit area enlarged on screen 😁
