What ‘perfect’ version of an item have you given up on?

For me it’s the perfect Bretton stripe cardigan and jumper.

A perfect bra!

Fedupwitheveryone · 02/09/2023 16:26

@Scousemousey

Everyday handbag. Roomy, but not too big. Shoulder, but can do cross body. Leather, but as light as possible. Casual, but not too casual. Slouchy, but not too sloppy-looking. 🙈 Probs doesn't exist.

I have been using Madewell medium zip top tote in cognac for this this summer. Fits a laptop and waterbottle at a push. not the lightest ever but not heavy either

I like the harber one but I think its a bit big and stiff to be handbaggy enough. It also doesn't have a back pocket to quickly stuff your keys and phone into. I love the front pocket though and the leather is gorgeous.

RhodoliteGarnet · 03/09/2023 00:50

Thanks @CaveMum I do like Merrell trainers and would try those although the straps round the foot are thick I suspect they will still bother me! (I know it’s irrational but I feel hideous when I have thick straps near my chubby ankles!)

Yettisrus29 · 03/09/2023 07:36

A waistcoat and trousers to wear to a fancy gala dinner. I desperately want to wear something different to my usual dress this year. Jumpsuits are out as I struggle doing back zips up (my arms aren't long enough) and I'm different sizes top and bottom.

I'd love a nice tailored waistcoat and matching trousers that I could then accessorise with the best killer heels! I'm not fussed about colour as I like being different.

smokingcarriageonly · 03/09/2023 16:54

Can't find a pair of high waisted jeans, every pair sits around my navel, Levi's ribcage and M&S barrel leg included.
Tall sizes are better but miles too long in the leg.
High waists really suit me when I can find them but I think 90s style low cut jeans are back so maybe I should give up now.

M&S have a pinstripe navy waistcoat and trousers set at the moment… hang on, I’ll find a link

Yettisrus29 · 04/09/2023 22:07

Thanks @Usernamenotavailabletryanother I'll have a look, I wonder if they're only available online as I didnt see them in my local store. May have a drive to the big one near me.

I found some in Tesco, they are skinny though

smokingcarriageonly · 05/09/2023 00:48

Thanks for that Yettisrus, should've said I'm looking for wider leg.

Bookist · 05/09/2023 09:57

A v neck jumper, in a mid weight cotton (no wool, I'm allergic) in a boxy shape with a deep rib hem that hits just below hips.

Bookist · 05/09/2023 10:05

Oh and the hem must have a very, flat square shape. Not clingy at all.

@LaCerbiatta I agree! Scoop neck white t-shirts with a non-frumpy sleeve length and in a thick material just do not exist, I’m sure.

I have these from oasis. Good shape and heavier material

Rapanui has a small range of colours in good quality scoop neck Ts with short non-baggy sleeves. I like them but the sizing is a bit neat for me.

Slip nighties that your boobs don't slip out of during the night.

I'm too warm in t shirt styles, but vest tops and slips end up tying me up.

These any good?

They do this chemise style every season. I find the fabric superb and the designs creative. Also no boob escape. Pleats at front neckline give ease of fit.

  1. The perfect orange-red sheer lipstick. Not too pigmented. Balm like but not too glossy. Doesn't dry out lips. Not perfumed or weird taste. No pink or blue hue.

  2. foundation. Tinted moisturiser feel. Dewey but not greasy. Your skin but better. Does not sit in fine line or pors. No perfume. More skincare than makeup but still makeup. No perfume. Does not feel on the skin. Covers roseaca but not heavy, still skin like.

  3. The perfect clean girl/lipgloss mani colour. Sheer but pigmented enough to cover terrible nail beds. Not salmon in tone, not too milky. Needs to make skintone look more olive and not bring out any pink hues in skin. Nude but polished. Not barbie pink.

i have been looking for 20 years for the above. Daily. I quote a desperate Charlotte in SAC 'I have done this for years. I have tried everything. I can't find him. Where IS HE'??

Expensive but this might fit the bill. I’m on my third bottle.

Have you looked at Glossier's Generation G sheer lipstick in Zip?

1- bourjois shine edition in number 20

3- Rimmel stronger nail, nail nurse

anon2022anon · 05/09/2023 17:37

Erborian colour/ red correct may work for number 2, or the other one they do is more dewy.

Cinnamonandcoal · 05/09/2023 18:32

For no.2 the foundation, try Lumene Skin Tiny if you haven't. Very sheer, like skincare but makeup.

SquirrelFan · 06/09/2023 19:26

@L1verp00l1 @YoshimisMum thank you both for your recommendations! They both work pretty well - as you might expect, the Ralph Lauren one is heavier and feels more substantial but I'm not sure it's 5x better! Both are more... synthetic - feeling? and thinner than the heavy cotton with a bit of stretch that I remember. They are both rather long - as a short-waisted person I have this problem all the time. I'll ask a tailor if they can shorten them. I think they're pretty good, and I like the cuff on the RL one, it gives it some style. Thank you again!
