What ‘perfect’ version of an item have you given up on?

For me it’s the perfect Bretton stripe cardigan and jumper.

Everyday handbag. Roomy, but not too big. Shoulder, but can do cross body. Leather, but as light as possible. Casual, but not too casual. Slouchy, but not too sloppy-looking. 🙈 Probs doesn't exist.

This is the holy grail of handbags surely.

Krustykrabpizza · 28/08/2023 16:12

Plain white t shirt that fits well, washes well and isn't see-through

Agree. T-shirts in general actually. I sometimes wonder why nobody seems to specialise in t-shirts. If there was a place that just sold t-shirts, decent quality in a range of styles, loads of colours (plain colours, no sodding life-affirming quotes, random place names, butterflies etc), all sizes available they'd do well.

User1706 · 28/08/2023 16:23
  1. Perfect height, quality leather, pointed toe black heels in wiiiide fit.
  1. Navy wide leg, high waisted, pleated, cropped trousers with no bloody pockets/wrap belts.

N.b the second did exist, but I purchased from Warehouse over a decade ago. I've gone to replace and found they no longer exist.

SquirrelFan · 28/08/2023 16:24

Black envelope neck t-shirt, fitted, heavy jersey with three quarter sleeves. A bit short in the body. Used to have one and it made me feel like a million dollars/Audrey Hepburn.

Gap used to be like this when it first appeared in the UK. Uniqlo aren't bad but sizing changes each year. I've a black round neck pima cotton one I like this year but need to buy a large for it to drape without clinging.

Persiana · 28/08/2023 16:29

@LaCerbiatta what about this? https://rapanuiclothing.com/product/plain-womens-organic-top/
I thought of it because I have this and the higher neckline boxier one. Maybe this is a better style.for you!

I have been trying for years to find the perfect black leather handbag
never quite found the one - I would pay up to £1000 if I was sure………

Work shoes that are smart, comfortable, go with things and fit my wide hobbit feet properly plus are just a tiny bit funky.

The right lipstick - brightening without being too bright, fairly long lasting and a nice texture

Let me know if you ever find them.

bunnibee · 28/08/2023 16:46

A medium weight V neck sweater, that's all I want.

With a welt and cuffs that don't go baggy, that are springy and stay clingy.

I used to buy the mens M&S lambswool ones years ago, they were perfect, not the same now though

Not this fake cashmere stuff that ends up looking like a tunic
Not much to ask for you'd think?

Yeah sizing would need to be consistent.

I'm expanding my t-shirt shop in my head now. This idea is probably not viable but that matters not for it is my fantasy...

A website where you can choose exactly what you want and they make it for you. Tons of colours, crew/scoop/v/boat neck, cap/short/half/three quarter/long sleeve, whatever size you want. Option to make it slightly longer if you're tall.

bunnibee · 28/08/2023 16:52

Oh and a translucent lip tint in ginger. Mary Quant did one years ago (showing my age here) never to be found again...

Lentilweaver · 28/08/2023 18:18

Going out top! To be worn with jeans. Which is not polyester, oversized, frilly, shiny, floral or with massive poufy sleeves. Already discussed this on another thread.

Glasses frames. After 40 years of wearing glasses I have still yet to find a style/frame to suit me. Now I'm wearing varifocals it's worse as the bigger the frame the worse it looks.

Yes not easy

ArielManto43 · 28/08/2023 18:49

Black ribbed T shirt with scoop neck and sleeves just a bit above the elbow.

The Anna Bucket Bag from Honey & Toast ticks all those boxes. I just got one and I can't get over how light it is for a decent sized bag.

CeliaCanth · 28/08/2023 18:58

Fitted white shirt that can be worn under v neck jumpers, with proper length sleeves, and a normal collar, and which isn’t an absolute swine to iron.

clowniform · 28/08/2023 19:03

Nice 'traditional' looking shoes (Cheaney, Grenson etc.) that are comfy without 50 years of breaking in.
Converse but soft with some support.
Sheer holdup stockings (knee or OTK) that are as nearly invisible as Wolford Nude 8 tights, in a shade as light as 'Cosmetic'.
Fine cashmere jumpers with the quality of Brora but more fashionable cuts.

dressedforcomfort · 28/08/2023 19:07

Dressy evening shoes that don't leave me limping after half an hour.

Usernamenotavailabletryanother · 28/08/2023 19:08

Cowboy boots.

I’ve been looking for the perfect pair for over 20 years- tan, leather or suede, v small chisel heel and comfy. Wide calf as I do not have slim legs. A pair of Aldo ones came close 10 years ago, but I have worn them into the ground and they are beyond repair 😞

Charlotte Tilbury sexy sienna.

A white t shirt with the perfect weight, neckline and fit 🙁

And if anyone suggests again the cos / arket ones as perfect, I'm going to cry! The boxy cut and high neck look terrible on me .

I found a lovely one from mint velvet, bloody sunscreen ruined it the first time I wore it 😭😭

Just bought a Balenciaga city satchel that ticks all the boxes. Love it.

Fruit of the loom are thick, great colours and not spendy
