Dresses with trainers 🤮

Oversized everything (I call it the molly mae effect)

Slicked back buns.

The influencer make up.

No one dresses feminine anymore, they look like scruffy men, and bigger than what they are.

NatashaDancing · 18/08/2023 10:05

Goodness me.

The only thing I really hate is that daft Uniqlo bum bag worn as a cross body bag - and that's only because it gets lauded to the skies on here. In real life I think I've only seen it once and it looked just as daft as it does in photos.

I genuinely don't understand most of this thread. There's always stuff I couldn't bear to wear e.g trainers worn as normal every day shoes, pre-ripped jeans, leggings, leather biker jackets if you're not a biker, puffer coats but, none of it's compulsory and there's always plenty of other choices.

I think I only notice people wearing things I like and just blank out everything else.

BeginningToLookALotLike · 18/08/2023 10:09

I am obviously in the minority here, but I quite like a short, frilly sleeve, as long as the rest of my outfit is more fitted, e.g. skinny jeans.

What I don't like at the moment, especially as a petite woman, is that there is very little else out there if I don't want to buy a boxy top. I shop a lot on eBay for older style tops that are more fitted, but then I run the risk of looking old-fashioned.

Wexone · 18/08/2023 10:11

Another after a trip to Tesco's yesterday
Wearing Pyjamas as out wear - not your dressing gown does not substitute for a coat
Leggings that are so thin you can see through them aswell as that means they will tear easily - so like the girl in front of me on the escalator you get little holes in them and can see your arse. Especially as the top you are wearing doesn't cover your arse
Sliders and worse sliders with socks - like why do you need to wear socks with what obviously are sandals?
Men with skinny tracksuits and jeans
Men wearing no socks with shoes
People not knowing when clothing is not appropriate to wear to certain events or work

Marchintospring · 18/08/2023 10:13

I forgot those Brazilian bikinis that everyone wears. I get they give you sexy tan but the combination of butt cheeks and material jutting between the crack looks uncomfortable and unhygienic. Back it the day it was proper thongs ( literally just a string) which although made most people look terrible didn’t look at coy as Brazilians do.

I hate the huge 80's style glasses as a glasses-wearer because they are completely unsuitable for people with poor sight! When you have a strong prescription, the larger the lens, the thicker it is at the edges so it won't fit the frame, and it's harder to centre the vision properly.

So, 80's glasses are fashionable but mostly useless, except at lower prescriptions.

I have vari focals so have to have a slightly larger frame but I know what you mean when they are too large and glasses wear you

woodhill · 18/08/2023 10:35

Shirts or t shirts with pockets on breasts and too many button fronts which are gapey

This is fashion aimed at an older buyer

It may be an urban myth, but I read that when she was on Friends, Jennifer Aniston used to cut a hole in her bras in order for her nipples to show.

Americans are the most prudish people about nipples so I doubt it’s true.

I watched a really old film with her in it recently and I did notice that her nips had a whole supporting role all to themselves...

IDriveMySupernova · 18/08/2023 13:04

Smocked maxi dresses, often with a print that looks like they were made from a 1970s eiderdown. I'm sorry but they are absolutely hideous https://www.qvcuk.com/Apricot-Paisley-Ruffles-Midaxi-Dress.product.403957.html

Oversized shirts. I'm not sure I've really seen anyone wearing one in real life. I'm not a fan of fitted shirts either but there's a middle ground!

Frills and broderie! Arghhhhhh

Stuff with holes and splits. A pp mentioned this... you'll find a lovely top only to discover it has an open back or no sides Angry

Drawstring waists and posh jogging bottoms. Noooooooooooooooooo

Enormo trainers.

I do like some of the fashion atm however... I'm a fan of masculine/parisian chic (is that a thing? I feel like a fraud on this board) which seems to be in.

I don't see it as often anymore but it's a pet peeve in general too. Women wearing their jacket/shirt/cardigan half over their arms like it's fallen down- but intentionally!

This is hilarious. I haven't seen this before but I'm going to look out for it.

It's reminded me of another thing... off shoulder or one shoulder tops, or bardot. I don't think it's flattering on anyone.

RadishAndTwiglet · 18/08/2023 13:21

Half mast socks, pulled right up to mid calf, worn with sliders or trainers. Not not under long trousers, but with shorts or dresses, done in order to admire said socks.

It's like people are going out of their way to look as ironically terrible as possible.

doroda · 18/08/2023 13:27

Most summer dresses this year seem to have the little elasticated sleeves. I like a short sleeve but feeling that elastic would drive me mad in the heat

This!

In fact sliders are just hideous full stop.

ChevyCamaro · 18/08/2023 13:42

The horrible horrible colours and patterns.
Flouncy tiered dresses, shapeless midi button through sacks (dresses), especially with trainers.
Ugly ugly clumpy shoes.
Wide boxy too-short tops (I am an over full hourglass they make me look like a cube!!)
High waisted jeans because they make me look about 75% bottom.
I am still holding onto my hipster jeans and trying sooo hard to lose some weight so I can get back in them. Never felt happier than in hipster 70s style jeans and a cheesecloth shirt, like one of Charlies Angles (in my mind)

Puffed sleeves. No one over the age of 10 should wear these.
And yet I live in dungarees, so obviously dress like a big toddler.

DuchessOfSausage · 18/08/2023 13:53

Re the bardot top, it did actually suit her. I thought that the trend had passed. I got the impression that, along with the potato-shoulder tops, it was a look favoured by more well-padded women

I don't mind the socks with sliders look, and generally think people can wear what they like, but I find it hard to find anything I like in the shops.

Potato-shoulder tops! I didn't realise there was a name for them. Also very unflattering IMO.

I hate polo shirts. Hate them. I have never had and will never have sex with a man who wears a polo shirt through choice.
Polo shirts and chino shorts and LOAFERS.

I think a lot of mens' fashion is abysmal to be fair.

You wouldn't have sex with a golfer then.

AppleTurnover1000Degrees · 18/08/2023 14:06

I think young slim people look good in some of the things mentioned.

Cropped tops look great on some young women.

Startyabastard · 18/08/2023 14:17

Man made, sweaty fabrics.

Totally agree and if I still had the figure I would wear them. I'm sure many on here would too ...... 😉😉😉

Middleagedmeangirls · 18/08/2023 15:10

Puffed sleeves. I am petite with big boobs and they make my top half look massive. I take them straight to the dry cleaners to be changed to fitted short or 3/4 length. Much more flattering

I am tall with small boobs and they look horrible on me too. I don't think they look good on anyone.

Marchintospring · 18/08/2023 15:15

Any if the fashions look good when it’s not try hard. Cropped tops and crocs both look nonchalant on youth. Less so when it’s clear you have a few years experience of dressing under your belt.So to speak.

SovietSpy · 18/08/2023 16:24

But wait, a lot of what’s being raised isn’t even in fashion right now. Like Peplum tops. Wasn’t that an early 00s trend? I haven’t seen anyone wearing them recently.

someone said they wished tailoring came back, but that’s been in for ages now. Like zara, arket, other stories, h&m, mango all stock great blazer and trouser options. Blazer and jeans or blazer and wide legged trousers is a staple look now.

as for fashions I don’t really like:

athleisure - like the trend but agree that nude colour leggings and shorts look awful in real life. Unitards the same, unless you’re tall and thin. Doubt they are practical either. I think there is too much cheap gym wear doing the rounds which can look scruffy.

sliders - people never walk properly in them. tend to look scruffy.

denim midi skirt - think it’s a hard trend to pull off. Could look frumpy with wrong shoes

cargo trousers - this trend can swerve me. Fine for 20 yr olds as they are fun trousers but I’m too old

clumpy black sandals

waistcoat as a top - we don’t have the summer for bare arms this year, think would probably be a waste of money and wouldn’t look as good with something over the top

floral midi dresses - yes i know controversial to say out loud but I think this is the first year where I’ve genuinely though yeah it looks a bit crap now. Think the biggest issue is cheap dresses that don’t have nice prints or too much going on. Think if you want to stick with it go for a plain colour, or smaller print and get something with a nice fabric.

low rise jeans or trousers - personal not keen on the shape. Prefer high waist and pair with a short top for the thirds rule.

lizzielizard · 18/08/2023 16:34

Underboob bikinis. Looks ridiculous!
