Gold hoop earrings - tacky or classy

I've got about £100 to spend and was thinking about gold hoop earrings because I thought that they are timeless but at the same time I think they could be tacky! Anyone got any nice ones?

I’m not sure that people who make misogynistic statements like the bigger the hoop etc are really the arbiters of classy behaviour are they?

I suppose we should give at least some posters the benefit of the doubt that perhaps they’re unaware of the racist overtones around seeing these particular earrings as being of ‘low class’.

Britneyfan · 17/08/2023 04:52

I have these ones and I LOVE them. And whenever I wear them people always ask me where they are from and say how lovely they are.

Its not racist to think large hoops are earrings worn by lower classes. Clearly ludicrous when the Princess of Wales wears them. Class and race are not the same thing though. No one could think Michelle Obama does not dress in a classy way for example. She is wonderful. Constant referral to chavs is more worrying in a way and frankly dated. It says more about the poster than anything else.

I love the comment about Diana, Cher and Christine. The poster who said they are not rocking their hoops clearly doesn’t understand anything. Of course they look good in those earrings! As the Princess of Wales does in hers.

I think something like this is more timeless

Prompted by this bonkers thread, I put on a pair of gold hoops today. I'm secure in the knowledge that I am a tacky, classy, timeless, chavvy clean girl. It's going to be a busy day...

Rottweilermummy · 17/08/2023 08:39

Depends on the size , big ones I think are tacky Imo, but maybe smaller say size of 10p are OK, maybe with a stone or 2 set

SpottyBrolly · 17/08/2023 08:44

I've got several pairs of hoops in different sizes from Lucy lane. I love them, and the fact they're ethically made. The Goddess crown are my favourite. lucylanejewellery.com/collections/earrings

And not fast women?

You know who they are because they wear big gold hoops. Apparently.

SpottyBrolly · 17/08/2023 08:55

Where are those from? I might need them.

Love a gold hoop, I have loads. Also pretty influenced by the 90's style wise. Some folk on here are very old fashioned, bugger them.

nidgey · 15/08/2023 17:08

Hoops are timeless, and are made and sold by everyone from Clare's Accessories for a fiver to Chanel for five grand (https://www.chanel.com/us/fine-jewelry/p/3599591933783/coco-crush-hoop-earrings/)

If you think you like them and that they suit you then buy them and don't worry about whether someone else thinks they're 'tacky.' It's far far tackier to be class-obsessed, repeating a schoolyard slut-shaming jibe, being racist about gypsies, or calling other people chavs. Being free and confident in your own style is never tacky.

Well said. Some right judgemental types on here. Confidence in key, whatever you wear

Like I said, they're stuck in the 90s.

Some people need to get their thinking out of the 90s. "Chavs', 'travellers' (nice snobbery/racism there) and Juicy Couture- really? Do you realise how long ago all that was?

Hoops seem to be having their moment again. So I vote wear thrm!

They are. Some people need to keep up.
