Gold hoop earrings - tacky or classy

I've got about £100 to spend and was thinking about gold hoop earrings because I thought that they are timeless but at the same time I think they could be tacky! Anyone got any nice ones?

It depends on the overall outfit and the hoop style in my opinion.
I've got a pair that are quite a statement piece that look good with some outfits, but seem to be speaking a different style language with other outfits.

As long as the jewellery tells the same story as the outfit, it will probably look polished.

I love hoops, wear them nearly every day! I mostly wear one of this multi pack from H&M. I like to relive my youth and pretend I’m nelly furtado 😁 I wear them with any kind of outfit, casual, work etc but I think with your styling they will def look classy.

I really love them, but I've curly hair and seem to "fit".

Not worried about looking downmarket. I'm too plain in my choices. Lots of navy, no patterns, I will not worry about looking down market!

I bought the Alex Monroe ones linked and they are so disappointingly small.

I like em...

I’m on team hoops. I like the small and classic ones.

I'm glad some of us like hoops.

You aren't chavtastic. They are nice.

I'm on the fence about them. It really depends on what you're wearing and even more what your hairstyle is like. If you have long sleek hair, if you're dressed in very smart, well fitting clothes, they can look great. But if you are wearing anything remotely casual, if your hair isn't groomed to within an inch of its life (and lets face it for most of this, it isn't the case). Most people tend to dress in a casual way and do their own hair which rarely looks like they stepped out of a hair salon, then hoops can look very cheap. Big hoops and long hair either down or tied up in a pony/bun remind me of fortune tellers found in fairs.

I don't wear bigger earrings unless I've done my hair, a bit of make up and certain clothes. I think most people wear them when they have made an effort with other things.

Some people need to get their thinking out of the 90s. "Chavs', 'travellers' (nice snobbery/racism there) and Juicy Couture- really? Do you realise how long ago all that was?

Hoops seem to be having their moment again. So I vote wear thrm!

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 15/08/2023 23:02

Little and thick gold ones I like. Make me feel younger than I am 😂

I think it depends on the style of the hoops and your fashion style.

For example thin large gold hoops with leggings and Nike Air Force... tacky😂

I think small chunky hoops look more classy!
I have a pair from Cos which are lovely.

Ha this is what I wore today but with little hoops! I felt young and cool 😂

I've got small thin ones in today for work. I'm not sure why small thick ones would make you feel younger. I think the bigger ones are more trendy now.

TizerorFizz · 15/08/2023 23:20

Trendy with whom? Teenagers or smart professional women? The small thicker tapered hinged hoops have been very popular. They look quite Italian and are definitely smart.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 15/08/2023 23:20

@AppleTurnover1000Degrees i must be thinking about myself when I was younger rather than what's trendy now! But Hayley Bieber kind of style ( the tik tok 'that girl' kind of look) is what I'm going for!

Not thick thick, but not like the flimsy cheap ones I used to get at Claire's when I was a teen

Not teenagers, more of the casual look. I like the Boho look. I do dress more dressy though sometimes. I dress office casual for work and go out in the campervan a lot.

Dinny Hall hoops are classic and Alighieri are interesting designs that are a bit unusual.

My poshest friend oozes bohemian chic in large, fat gold hoops teamed with sportswear and blockprinted muslin 😄

I really do not like the left ones.

TizerorFizz · 15/08/2023 23:38

I get Boho but don’t wear it. I think it’s a bit niche. Although fun. I like hoops but not bigger ones. I hang drops off mine. I’ve got quite a big Annoushka collection.

tt9 · 15/08/2023 23:46

it's a lot to do with face shape, hairstyle etc. some ladies look absolutely fabulous in them... but others look tacky. small chunky hoops are safer for sure.

PyongyangKipperbang · 16/08/2023 00:16

Well according to The Rules, they are a must!

I actually think that they can look lovely, but I agree it depends on the overall look. I cant wear them because whenever I look at a pair I remember the girl at school who had her ear shredded when the bitch bully pulled one of them out in the early 80's, this kind of thing was why they were redesigned to pull out without damage but I cant get past it!

Wear them if you want to and yes they can look very classy.

That's just a load of self-imposed rules which you don't have to follow!

TizerorFizz · 16/08/2023 00:54

@AppleTurnover1000Degrees Lots of fashionable people wear Alighieri. They are the savvy person’s more unusual designs. They specialise in texture and free form shapes. Liberty sell them. It just depends what you like.
