Gold hoop earrings - tacky or classy

I've got about £100 to spend and was thinking about gold hoop earrings because I thought that they are timeless but at the same time I think they could be tacky! Anyone got any nice ones?

As I said. Such bizarre ideas. I do remember Linda Ronstadt but I doubt few others do. Hardly a role model for most today. Class in clothes is not personality. It’s knowing what to wear for every occasion.

I tend towards thinking they're tacky and have never worn them. King dang lies are more elegant I think

I don't like hoop earrings but I'm almost tempted to get a pair.

I've been wearing these today. Love them, and I don't care if they look tacky.

Hoops are a classic and wardrobe staple.

I have small neat hoops for professional days. Medium size thick hoops for every day. Big hoops for evenings when I'm going glam. Also hoops with dangly bits, some twisty hoops and some sparkely hoops.

And I'm very chic so I must be right.

Looking at old pix of Linda, the hoops don’t go through her ears. They seem to be attached to studs. It does look a bit dated now.

Well this thread is quite an eye opener! I didn’t even realise hoop stereotyping was still something that was thought about.

How can they indicate anything of any meaning? They’re earrings! Surely they’re just a thing that suit some people more than others. Like any other single item in any given whole outfit / look 🤷‍♀️

OP, I think if you like hoops and they suit you, wear them 😊

I have laughed at the people saying tacky. It's something my Grandma might have said. They look fab when worn with nice clothes.

I just hate the way they look. I won't judge anyone for wearing them, they're earrings, not marks of character. But OP asked what we thought, and my thought is that I hate the things.

I always think of Sade when someone mentions hoops. Hair scraped back, minimal make up, often dressed in just jeans and a top and those massive hoops of hers. What makes her really 'classy' (and I hate that word) is the fact she minds her own business, doesn't go looking for attention, understands that others do not have as much as she does and doesn't mouth off about travellers, chavs and Argos.

Or Michelle Obama. It's practically a trademark look for her too.

I like small chunky ones mostly or thin diamond ones. I wear Cartier trinity hoops most days.

I'm about as clean/neutral/classic/boring as you can get when it comes to dressing and I literally live in hoops. A small pair (like the ones described as huggies above) with diamonds are in my ears 24/7 except for the rare occasions when I need to glam up. Then it's almost always my larger hoops, about 1.5in circumference.

Both pairs are solid gold and were gifts for significant occasions, 20+ years old. I'm quite confused at the thought of them ever being considered tacky or chavvy but I'm just going to assume the people who think that have no clue about anything
