Gold hoop earrings - tacky or classy

I've got about £100 to spend and was thinking about gold hoop earrings because I thought that they are timeless but at the same time I think they could be tacky! Anyone got any nice ones?

This. it's all about how big they are.

I think gold or silver depends on whether you have warm or cool colouring, and hoops or not depends on their size, and your hair.

I have green/gold eyes and freckles, so gold is good; and my hair tends toward a tangled curly cloud, so hoops go well, and any but the largest look positively dainty.

If your style is sleek with cool colouring than another choice may be better. Just to offer an alternative way of thinking about it - I don't have a clue about fashion.

@rockpoolingtogether just buy some. I bought a really cheap as chips pair from New Look just to try.

I wear them on holidays and nights out and will probably upgrade to a decent pair as I like them.

Tbh I wouldn't take style advice from 95% of people who post on S&B as they haven't got a clue.

Timeless in my opinion-as long as not too big.

I’ve had the same roughly 2 inch pair for over 20 years.

i personally think the very small ones are a bit pointless.

If you think you like them and that they suit you then buy them and don't worry about whether someone else thinks they're 'tacky.' It's far far tackier to be class-obsessed, repeating a schoolyard slut-shaming jibe, being racist about gypsies, or calling other people chavs. Being free and confident in your own style is never tacky.

Totally depends who is wearing them and how. I have several of pairs of hoop earrings of various sizes and thicknesses and I would hope they don't ever look tacky. However, if I was wearing a tracksuit and a pair of fluffy slippers with my hair up and some gum in my mouth, I'd say the opposite

I mostly wear hoops! Gold or silver to match my other jewellery, various sizes and designs. My plain gold ones are from New Look - I’d buy some from there and spend the other £97 on clothes if it were me 😁

I love them and don’t think they’ll ever go out of fashion.

I personally don’t care what people think though and tend not to try and wear what everyone else does like many do on MN.

I would not pay £100 for them though.

I loove a gold hoop. They're timeless, elegant and go with nearly everything@rockpoolingtogether.

They always looked awful on Samantha Cameron and she was supposed to be some sort of fashion person… I vote tacky.

I like small, gold hoops. Not keen on the bigger ones. I think either can avoid looking tacky but it's harder with the big ones

Some very silly comments on here. Gold Huggies are very fashionable. As posted on page 1. Smaller hoops with attachments (Annoushka, Kiki McDonagh) are always fashionable but obviously you need cheaper versions. Hoops up to around 1 inch are ok but great big things? No.

Perfectly acceptable fashion and MN isn’t remotely fashionable in many cases it appears. Silver might go black. I avoid silver.

Mumsnet has only been a place to come for fashion advice if you want to try and wear what everyone else is.
Not everyone wants to look exactly the same as everyone else.

I remember a thread about a woman not knowing what to wear because she can’t wear white trainers anymore and so many posters were saying how white trainers are out and that they wouldn’t be seen dead in them as they’re not fashionable.

It was absolutely ridiculous but I’ve noticed a lot of posters are similar.
They’ll only do things if they think other people will like it.

I can't do New Look for metal earrings, as get sensitivity to metals if not gold/silver. But I agree there is no point spending more than you have to on earrings because one of the bastards always gets itself lost eventually.

Someone forgot to tell Kate Middleton that hoops are tacky and chavy.

Smaller than a 50p and plain is not twisted metal are lovely and with the right outfit very classy!

I love my hoops and I love how much other people hate them.
