I am loving vinted

Hey everyone,

What's everyone's thoughts on vinted? I am absolutely loving it so far.

The clothes I've ordered are practically brand new, amazing condition and a fraction of the price.

It seems especially good for women's and children's clothes and honestly I'm a bit obsessed and need to stop buying really but I'm nearly finished for our holiday and it's mostly been from vinted!

I also feel like I'm saving the earth GrinGrin I know I'm not really but I'm really surprised about how good it is!

Buyer protection fee is partly how Vinted makes its money, I suspect.

AgingDisgracefullyHere · 02/09/2023 12:36

I am irritated with the shoe sellers who never take a photo from the side. There's photos of the soles and the insides and from the top looking down, but nothing that tells me how high the heels are.

Buyer protection fee is partly how Vinted makes its money, I suspect.

It's buyer protect and cash management.

Think of how many people keep money in their Vinted balance after they sell something

  • just in case they want to buy something,

Even if it's an average of £1 a user, that's a lot of money to gain interest on/invest.

As stands even if you withdraw your balance to your bank account their T&C's say 5 days to transfer (which is a ridiculously long time in the age of internet banking).

So now think of all the money Vinted "holds" across the platform in that 5 day window.....

That's the one thing I'm noticing, too! There is such a lack of detail. Often the title is short, photos are lacking and then the detail just amounts to 'new and unused'

I'm looking at a bag atm. I've no idea from the photos if it's purse sized or carrier bag sized. The title says 'Neom Bag' and the detail is nada. I've seen quite a few like this and it puts me off as I get sick of asking "Could you give me the measurements for this please and also a photograph of the side" etc.

I've been used to ebay for the past 20 years where more details are usually given.

sunshinesupermum · 02/09/2023 14:05

BreadInCaptivity true which is why I transfer sales money pretty quickly and it has never taken five days for it to clear in my bank account.

AgingDisgracefullyHere · 02/09/2023 14:07

I think if a seller wants to shift stuff, they can stand out by doing this sort of thing. Photos from all angles, something that shows the scale

I recently bought several bags and noticed the same thing you did. Even a hand next to the thing would help. A rare few photograph next to a ruler.

I bought several pairs of m&s trousers last night because m&s do "long" sizes. I bought trousers that either showef the label that said "long" or put it in the description. But so many don't bother. Why would I risk getting a pair labeled "short?"

sunshinesupermum · 02/09/2023 14:09

RainbowZebraWarrior it frustrates me that few people list the material of a garment. I hate polyester for example but most times I need to ask the seller what the fabric is. Even then one was listed as cotton but when I received it turned out to be viscose!

AgingDisgracefullyHere · 02/09/2023 14:27

I am going to be the very best vinted seller once I get my shit together lol

grass321 · 02/09/2023 16:59

So is the buyer fee optional? I've mainly been selling but it was automatically added to the purchase I've just made.

Pigtailsandall · 02/09/2023 17:20

I don't think you can opt out of the buyer protection fee. Worst thing us that it protects you against nothing. One of my parcels is lost and Vinted just keeps telling me to "resolve it" by admitting that I didn't send it. Which is not true.

I just listed a lovely coat which is acrylic, cotton and wool... and took a pic of the label. I still got a question about the material. It is sometimes frustrating but I have made a lot of money selling.

TheBeesKnee · 08/09/2023 07:05

Hmmm I've just got another picky bit of feedback.

I sold 2 Jigsaw puzzles. One immaculate, the other in a battered box, both £2. The buyer left 4 stars and complained that they should have been in a plastic bag to prevent loss. I guess this is understandable but in the pictures it was very clear that one was in a plastic bag and the other was not Confused because it had been opened and used. FFS.

Pigtailsandall · 08/09/2023 10:30

@TheBeesKnee I think some buyers just have unrealistic expectations. For £2, it's a good deal. It's sad because you can't choose who you sell to, and some buyers do have crappy feedback too.

My issue of a lost item is still unresolved and has been about 2 weeks, and I don't know how to get in touch with Vinted - the links just send me into an infinite loop.

On the plus side, I have had a good week selling - maybe the change in season (though not weather) and I've even sold a few things I had listed ages ago and was just about to take to the charity shop. Nothing v high ticket, but lots of small bundles and about £60 made since Saturday

wishIwasonholiday10 · 08/09/2023 14:02

The buyer protection fee just seems to be Vinted profit. Definitely doesn’t protect you. After 3 not great experiences this week I’m really starting to go off Vinted.

  1. Child’s swimsuit but was a size smaller than on the listing. No way to get money back without paying to send it back. Useless to me as I already have 3 in that size and will be outgrown soon and don’t need another .
  2. another swimsuit. Described as good but really severe bobbing. Would have at least expected that to be described and some effort to show it in a photo.
  3. Snowsuit with a noticeable stain by the neck. Came out in the wash but also noticed a seam has split (not sure if that happened in the wash or before as I chucked it straight in the wash after seeing the stain.). Was described as very good.

I would expect even cheap items to be accurately described!

Sometimes it is cheaper to buy new if you end up with too many dud purchases. Guess I should be more careful with what I buy.

Delatron · 08/09/2023 14:28

I think it’s better for selling than buying. You get the total price. When you buy something you have to add on postage then the buyer fee. And then the risk of it not as described.

NeedANewPhone1 · 08/09/2023 14:44

Do you still have access to the label? Can you make a similar package and send a photo of that (then maybe screenshot it or something - are date stamps on photos obvious?)

It's probably just for them to forward to the carrier. I doubt they're searching through a pile of packages!

NeedANewPhone1 · 08/09/2023 14:44

That was in reply to @Pigtailsandall

QueefofSheena · 08/09/2023 14:45

Some of my items sold this week too that didn't shift a few months ago. I've also taken a few things down which haven't sold recently and listed them on eBay. I find eBay such a faff, but these things are new with tags which are now too big. I really don't want to let them go for next to nothing. If they don't sell I'll relist on Vinted but I feel I have to exhaust other possibilities first.

Pigtailsandall · 13/09/2023 20:18

I've had a great week or so selling in Vinted - made £120 out of pretty much just stuff that no longer fit me. Annoyingly, I also had my first cancelled sale....my husband took out the wrong bag of stuff to the charity collection, including a few items I had listed for sale and one item which had sold but I hadn't shipped yet!! I sent a massive apology, but does anyone know if cancelling orders automatically results in a bad feedback?

Highdaysandholidays1 · 13/09/2023 21:20

I don't think it does, just apologise profusely. I had to last week as I did the same thing, sold an item and found it had been sent to charity. I think if you are honest and truly sorry, then most people will forgive you and not leave bad feedback.

Yes, the system will automatically give you bad feedback. The buyer can override it I think.

EllaPaella · 14/09/2023 19:11

I've made over £100 in the last two weeks on Vinted. I have a few 'followers' now which is great - I follow then back and we seem to have similar taste in clothes and obviously a similar size so I guess it's a bit of a clothes swap situation but it's great.
Made enough to buy myself some new winter boots. I find as long as you post quickly and communicate and are honest about the quality of what you're selling then you get good reviews and it's an easy process.

Sleepyteach · 14/09/2023 19:34

I reckon I’ve made about £1000 in the last year between vinted and Facebook marketplace (mostly vinted). Just selling my DDs clothes and toys and a few bits of mine. I think I need to cut down my postage options, I’ve already removed RM because of their parcel sizes, and I prefer to post at the weekends or evenings, but at the moment I seem to have days where I’ve got one for one shop, one for another and then another parcel to go to the inpost locker (which half the time don’t have space), they’re all fairly close by but it’s just such a faff, but I don’t want to put buyers off.

Pigtailsandall · 14/09/2023 19:55

@Sleepyteach I disabled all but Yodel and Evri and it hasn't made any difference to my sales.

@DrMarshaFieldstone I didn't get automatic bad feedback. I guess you only get that if someone complains? Still all 5-star ratings!

Delatron · 14/09/2023 20:09

I’ve disabled everything apart from Yodel and Evri too and still selling things. It’s so much easier than faffing back and forwards to Inpost who were always full.

NeedANewPhone1 · 14/09/2023 20:19

@Pigtailsandall I have a feeling that you get one 'freebie' cancellation with no feedback and auto-negative feedback after that. I'm not absolutely certain though.

The buyer can alter it (I've done this once when the seller cancelled the sale for me to rebuy).

Personally, I don't worry too much about this type of feedback - if the seller doesn't send I get a refund anyway so it doesn't put me off.
