I am loving vinted

Hey everyone,

What's everyone's thoughts on vinted? I am absolutely loving it so far.

The clothes I've ordered are practically brand new, amazing condition and a fraction of the price.

It seems especially good for women's and children's clothes and honestly I'm a bit obsessed and need to stop buying really but I'm nearly finished for our holiday and it's mostly been from vinted!

I also feel like I'm saving the earth GrinGrin I know I'm not really but I'm really surprised about how good it is!

I agree 100% BreadInCaptivity I skim anything that is creased to bxxxery. One listing actually stated 'just needs an ironic do why the fxxk don't you iron it first if you want to sell it?

My best buy was a brand new leather jacket for less than £20 that the seller said didn't suit her. Conversely a vintage outfit I sold was immediately listed again by the buyer for £15 more than she paid for it, at the price I'd originally listed that got no offers.

I've had to relist some clothes I bought on Vinted that were too small after I realised I am no longer size 14 but 16!

Motorina · 23/08/2023 23:34

The worst I saw was a BNWT shirt with white collar and cuffs heavily stained "from storage". Apparently it just needed a wash.

Well wash it and iron it then! Sell it as new without tags if need be, because no way am I buying it visibly grimy.

Having said that, I've had some fabulous purchases. Not everything has fitted or suited, but the good stuff has more than made up for it.

That exactly the sort of thing I mean!

I just don't get it. If you want a good price for an item then at least make sure it's presented well.

I've already had 2 people buy more off me after liking what they bought previously and knowing my assessments of the clothes are accurate.

The only thing I've noted is sales are slowing. One obvious reason is the "best" items have already sold, but I'm not so sure.

What I've noticed is my first set of listings got lots of views/fav's and sold then it's gone downhill even when I've posted some arguably nicer items.

I'm wondering if new users content get bumped in the algorithms to get them hooked?

I'm also wondering about items that have listed for a while, is it better to just leave them or remove and re-list later?

Has anyone had items listed for a while that then go on to sell?

Motorina · 23/08/2023 23:53

I am not a seller, but I know I offer on items which have been online for some months. So they do appear. No idea how the algorithm works to determine what I'm shown, though.

BreadInCaptivity · 24/08/2023 00:10

Thank you.

Maybe it's sometimes just matching to the right buyer and that might take a while!

I had similar with a pair of Levi's from eBay described as worn once, as new. They arrived dirty with an obvious stain on the front that wouldn't wash out.

The seller was extremely abusive and told me what did I expect buying a pair of Levi's for £25 that cost £70. Er, that you'd describe it accurately and if you don't want to sell it for £25, don't list it at that price.

LadyBird1973 · 24/08/2023 08:33

I've just encountered my first issue - bought something yesterday, seller has cancelled (which triggers a refund, but not the point) and re listed the item at double the purchase price.
Surely you enter into a contract when someone pays?

I have raised this with Vinted but I guess they can't make a seller send an item. I think they should be banned though.

Grrrpredictivetex · 24/08/2023 09:37

I can't believe how people expect to sell things that look sooooo creased. 😂

SophieTheWonderCat · 24/08/2023 09:55

It all looks such crap and the prices - barely worth selling for.

I would usually just carry things off to the charity shop, but I'm on maternity leave at the moment and feel like I need to be more conscious of my money, so I'm listing things and if they don't sell I'll take them to a charity shop.

The £2 here and £5 there add up! I've sold 4 things for £21 and have a bunch more listed. It's £21 I wouldn't have otherwise had 🤷‍♀️

This is annoying but buyers cancelling triggers an automatic negative review on their page.

All the whole i love Vinted.. If I'm out shopping and see something I like I'll check it's not on Vinted first. Did this a few weeks back, £50 River Island dress got brand new on Vinted for £15. I've also finished one teen's Christmas shopping by using Vinted.

ferretface · 24/08/2023 11:25

My Snoop app told me I'd spent £600 on vinted in the last year 😱 I've got some great deals but need to slow down the overall rate of purchasing. I buy next to nothing brand new these days but it is still tempting to overconsume - I find the vinted "suggested for you" algorithm really tempting as it does suggest good items.

Els1e · 24/08/2023 11:40

I’ve done well selling through Vinted but not so good buying.

Lovemusic82 · 24/08/2023 11:45

I change my wardrobe/style often so vinted is amazing, I sell and then use the money to buy something different. If I see something I like in the shops/online I go check vinted before buying new. I have probably sold around £1000 worth this year, and bought £1000 worth back 🤣, I call it recycling.

LadyBird1973 · 24/08/2023 12:05

"This is annoying but buyers cancelling triggers an automatic negative review on their page."

Thanks for this info @magicalkitty . So far I cannot message the seller or leave feedback. I think it's really cheeky to not honour a sale and to put it straight back up for double the price!

subolooo · 24/08/2023 12:38

Vinted is amazing. I buy and sell on there. I'm getting married next year and have a separate savings account which I put the money I make from vinted, its amazing how much it builds up.

QueefofSheena · 26/08/2023 11:04

I've bought quite a bit for A/W this week using some of the money I've made selling, including a gorgeous velvet coat. I've hopefully got my Christmas outfit sorted too.

I suspect I'm going to get my first no-show though, something I bought on Monday hasn't been sent yet so I think the app will cancel automatically.

Motorina · 26/08/2023 11:17

Vinted has really brought home for me the total nonsense that is womens dress sizes. I've been buying shorts and have been measuring sellers to ask the waist measurement before I buy. I've been told everything from 30" to 38". On items labelled as size 14. Total madness!

pastypirate · 26/08/2023 11:30

Absolutely love it. Had one skirt that's wrecked but that's 1/15 items I've bought for me and the dds. Overall experience it's brilliant dd2 (10) and I are buying pretty much just Ted Baker clothes and I buy some red or dead. I've bought roxy swim shorts for £3 and a Ted baker jumpsuit for £11 that's immaculate and I think £180 new.
We sell loads of branded kids stuff. I bought a pack of the parcel bags and I set the courier settings so it's just the corner shops we pass walking the dog anyway. It's so easy I send most of my stuff same day it's almost effortless.

IDriveMySupernova · 26/08/2023 11:30

I have five items listed and still don’t have a single view. My photos are good, no creases or stains. One of the items is a brand new H&M linen blazer which I thought would at least get a view.

I emailed a seller to ask whether a pair of trousers had a fault as there was a close up of a random area of the waistband. No reply.

I might delete it.

Newgolddream70 · 26/08/2023 12:47

I love it! I have sold and bought quite a few things.

I have just received a gorgeous Hush blouse which cost me £7. Originally £69 and it's in perfect condition.

BlackJumpsuit · 26/08/2023 13:11

I've bought a lot on there and have been recently selling . Some things sell instantly and others languish there for weeks/months.

Instant sellers: New Look cotton midi dresses priced low, Seasalt dress, Zara dress, Stan Smiths. Languishers include Boden dresses even priced low, M&S new shirt, lovely green linen jacket 🤷🏻‍♀️

I try and make the photos look attractive, show the label and the back, occasionally model them to show length.

Interestingly the last 3 things I sold I included a picture of me wearing (minus head view) and I am short and not particularly nubile/young etc. I think people like to have an idea how it's going to fit, so the more detail you can include the better.

I always like to know what things are made of too!

Lentilweaver · 26/08/2023 13:38

Marking.

LadyBird1973 · 26/08/2023 16:39

My lovely M&S velvet blazer arrived today - brand new with the label still on and cost around £20. It's true what @Motorina says about how messed up women's clothes sizes are - I've bought blazers from phase eight, M&S and warehouse in the same size and they are all completely different.
